this
the show became so bad it was actually impressive
the fricking spirit detective who became a villain was a joke
oh my god the final arc with the demons and he turned out to be a son of a demon was so unbelievably bad. i was just hatewatching by that point.
Sensui was a good villain, but the asspulls got out of control. Yusuke lashing their arms together and beating the shit out of him was the last kino moment of the whole series, and it should've been the end of the fight.
This movie was so disappointing. The animation and the ost were phenomenal. And the opening sequence was really good. But the story fricking fell apart, and turned into utter nonsense after the first act of the story.
Hathaway's Flash. If you've never watched Gundam, then you unironically won't get it if you haven't watched Gundam 079 and Char's Countterattack.
You're not missing anything though. It's style over substance: the movie. Beautiful animation. Beautiful ost. Fricking moronic story.
I mean this question with all earnestness: Why can't the japanese tell simple three act stories in their movies? They *always* descend into complete nonsense. Everything else can be good - the animation/cinematography, music, editing, etc. But the story will always be fricking shit.

Frick Eva. The show's ending is massive frick you if you actually gave a damn about the plot. >Who killed Kaji? >Who killed the blond female scientist? >What was the purpose of the dead sea scrolls? What did they say? What was the prophecy? >What was the purpose of Seele? >What were the implications of the Evas being part human? >What were the implications of there being a third Rei? >Who assaulted NERVE
I know some of these are "answered" by End of Evangelion. But the show STRAIGHT UP DOESNT STAND ON ITS OWN.
End of Evangelion also doesn't answer everything. Infact, it simply leaves MORE FRICKING QUESTIONS, like >Why were there random cinematic shots of a movie theater >Why were there random cinematic shots of literal crayon drawings >What the FRICK did all of the Christain and occult imagery mean don't defend this either, Anno literally said he just choose it because it looked cool, not because it had any meaning >Where did Nerve get 10+ super angel evas from? And why didn't they use them earlier in the series when it looked like the kids were gonna fricking die and the aliens were gonna win?
For fricksake, people don't even know if End of Evangelion takes place BEFORE or AFTER episodes 25 and 26. Some people insist that it's the shit show that leads to Shinji's mental break down, so it must come before. Others insist that End of Evangelion happens directly after episode 26 because Shinji has finally broken out of Instrumentality. Who knows? NO ONE
AND NO. It WASN'T the first "Deconstruction" anime of the mecha genre. That title belongs to Gundam 079, which came out decades BEFORE Evangelion. And Gundam 79 did a MUCH better job analyzing trauma, mental illness, and child soldiers.
The story follows a post-modernist approach of having this big fate of the world story in the background while it's mostly about the feelings and psychological problems of the main cast. As such the show doesn't focus on the lore as much as you'd think, and it's entirely a stylistic approach. As such you didn't "get it". The viewer AND Shinji are just as confused by all this and few characters sit him down and explain wtf is going on.
>>What was the purpose of Seele?
Globohomosexual organization manipulating everything including NERV. They're a doomsday cult who want to end the world and create "heaven" of the goo-world. Their plan succeeds.
>>What were the implications of the Evas being part human?
Evas are Angels, and both humans and Angels are made by the same alien race.
>Who assaulted NERVE
Regular Japanese military forces, under the lies of Seele who say that NERV has gone rogue and are trying to start the end of the world via third impact which is what Seele actually wants.
>What were the implications of there being a third Rei?
Rei is a clone-bot and they cycle through new ones when the old ones die.
>>Why were there random cinematic shots of literal crayon drawings
The budget ran out. Also they are in their minds, not reality at that point. Goo world.
>For fricksake, people don't even know if End of Evangelion takes place BEFORE or AFTER episodes 25 and 26.
They compliment each other and tell the same story. 25-26 is the low budget version, End of Eva is the big budget version. It also doesn't matter.
>What the FRICK did all of the Christain and occult imagery mean
Allusions to Christian Millennialism, Apocalypticism, the soul, and heaven. All of which are key to the setting and world. While not a literal adaption, it gets the feel of Revelations really down pat, and is one of the better Christian adaptions ever.
>AND NO. It WASN'T the first "Deconstruction" anime of the mecha genre.
People misuse that term. it's not really a deconstruction and it has little to say about mecha genre itself. It's rather a subversion of normal story telling format, and uses post-modernist story structure techniques. It does make a few points here and there - Asuka is the hot blooded mecha pilot and it goes poorly for her.
Eva's influences are Devilman (another regular monster of the week story that devolves into adapting Revelations) and Ideon (mecha series that has a wtf end of the world ending).
>>What was the purpose of the dead sea scrolls? What did they say? What was the prophecy?
Uh, if I remember right they're the guidebook plan for the initial colonization of earth by the alien race and it explains how angels and humans and impacts work. Seele follows it to the letter and it's their entire goal.
>Where did Nerve get 10+ super angel evas from?
You mean the mass produced Evas? Seele has their own Eva program and they're using AI programs based on brain scans of that twink rather than using real pilots. They're inferior to regular Evas but still very tanky.
Evas are just clones of the first Angel, and the mass produced ones are the next gernation.
>And why didn't they use them earlier in the series when it looked like the kids were gonna fricking die and the aliens were gonna win?
They've just been completed and couldn't be deployed much earlier than they were. And Seele didn't need them until then.
>>Who killed Kaji?
Off-screen spooks.
>Who killed the blond female scientist?
Shinji's dad or something. I forget as it's been a decade since I saw the series.
episode 10 of PA is so emblematic of anime... manages to get incredibly meta and interesting with a message of "listen kids - even the dumbest shows you watch take an immense amount of manual labor"

and then they ruin it all by playing that very annoying sound whenever a job description is introduced
This was good.
Though there were some stupid bits.
Like when Elidor and Ninorich decide to go to a town occupied by Zeon forces to celebrate Elidor's mix tape getting a release date or some kind of music contract deal. And then they got captured and then it turns into a full scale battle with Shiro and co having to go rescue their asses. Shiro should've not just slapped Ninorich, but also beaten the shit out of Elidor for that stunt. HE WAS THE one who wanted to party.
I was left thinking "you fricking morons! you're in the middle of a fricking war zone!"
And also those fricking butthole villagers getting killed by the downed Zeon pilot cutie?
They fricking deserved it. They did not take seriously Shiro's warnings of an impending attack and they charged at said pilot, only to be killed by antipersonnel defense mechanisms on the downed Zeon mech unit.

My issue with the chapter black arc, specifically how sensui became evil.
Like fricking wow, really!? you didn't know that humans can be le bad too? have you lived your whole fricking life with your head up your ass?
And the over reaction from witnessing humans worshipping slaanesh, even going as far a self mutilation. Pathetic.
and
also Kuwabara not taking part in the demon tournament. He could've represented humanity and would've demonstrated that even humans could stand toe to toe with the demons.
I watched it. It's just like any super robot mecha but with biblical aesthetics and references for the sake of it being cool.

If we're only talking about artstyle and visuals, not characters, not story, just the visuals. I would say Demon Slayer is phenomenal, especially for recent animes. The color choices and flow of movement is just top tier.
Story and characters suck, but at least its pretty to look at
It's pretty good.
Honestly I appreciate the show because it's been such a long time since we had a simple good vs evil show.
No recycled morals just good guys vs bad guys.
I really like how the villain realizes sending one guy at the time is stupid and just goes all in with all of his guys and ambushes the good guys at their base.
That being said I hate Zenitsu specially in the anime.
it's mediocre in everything but animation and music
honestly it's baffling how studios still release 10 slops instead of trying to focus on one series and going all-in, demon slayer wouldn't be nowhere as popular if not for ufotable, the manga is pretty bad when it comes to fights
It's pretty good.

>YYH is only good until Dark Tournament. Anything after that is shit. Sensui arc is just prototype HxH. Raizen arc is just shittier version of Dark Tournament with lack luster ending
Nice, YYH is my favorite
Dark Tournament and Chapter Black were great, I rewatch scenes from them all the time
Not a fan of everything that happened after Yusuke dying at the hands of Sensui except for the very last ending scene in the show but what precedes it is better than any other anime so it's no big deal
-ope

crawl back to stormfront, loser
What about seinen manga?
I mean Angel Heart not City Hunter but they're both kino.
Did anyone ever bother finish scanlating it? Last I checked it hadn't been touched in like 5 years
Yeah lot’s of manga get abandoned. Golgo 13 is the most successful long running manga of all time but zip zilch English translations out there.
Angel Heart fricking sucks
>anime can't be kin-
>weebs expect us to take this seriously
It really is a shame about everything after the Dark Tournament. Chapter Black has some highlights like Doctor vs Yusuke I guess.

This is why anime is hyperreality garbage
Frick Hathaway for dragging Amuro's vision and sacrifice over the mud

it takes way too long to get going
For me, GTO, simple as.
Fricking BASED
Fricking homosexual
One Piece is ultra kino but you have to have a soul and not be an edgelord to get it
YOU KNOW THAT SECOND HAIRCUT IS JUST RIGHT FOR ME
I love YYH but there are far more kino anime series
At least YYH was finished unlike HxH
Yyh literally isn't finished. Togashi gave up and ended it prematurely due to his back pain. Even if it was though hxh is significantly better.
Oh shit my bad I just assumed YYH was finished since he did HxH so he just starts another massive series without finishing the other one huh?
Can you not read? He "finished" it prematurely. As in it wasnt where he wanted. He then moved on to a far superior series.
Frick Eva. The show's ending is massive frick you if you actually gave a damn about the plot.

YYH’s last arc kind of sucks dick but the last two episodes are a great finale for the series and made me tear up.
Soon bros
Will they redo the ending?
Yu Yu hakusho is better than Dragon Ball Z
And HxH is better than YYH, especially the '99 version
...is the opinion of someone trying to look smarter than he actually is.
There’s actual character growth in Yu Yu Hakusho unlike Dragon Ball Z.
Yeah Yusuke starts out as a delinquent with a heart of gold and at the end of the series he's a...
wild animal man with a mullet
For me, it's 08th MS Team.

How come best animu lists are always a list of 20-30 yo stuff?
Most of the good stuff is hand drawn.
Same reason most shows and films that end up in 'best' lists tend to be a few decades old. There's so much today that nothing really has an unique identity anymore. Also computers and CGI have made the animation in many shows look awkward and unsatisfying. I honestly prefer the slideshows you sometimes got in the 90s over garbage CGI.
because the anime industry has fundamentally changed in a couple of ways that make it unable to produce kino.

Yes. It's unironically kino.

I really like how the villain realizes sending one guy at the time is stupid and just goes all in with all of his guys and ambushes the good guys at their base.
That being said I hate Zenitsu specially in the anime.
up
it's mediocre in everything but animation and music
honestly it's baffling how studios still release 10 slops instead of trying to focus on one series and going all-in, demon slayer wouldn't be nowhere as popular if not for ufotable, the manga is pretty bad when it comes to fights
