I liked the first season because it implied the main character was kind of smart for figuring out time travel. Then it turns out his fat friend did every thing and the main character is a gigantic moron chuuni who gets the girls because reasons.
He was never really meant to be that smart even in the first season. Did you really think he was some kind of super genius after the first episode?

This was in the original season too. Okabe was implied to be smart and to know a bunch about time travel stuff, but he didn't actually (seem to) contribute to the D-mail machine at all. That was all Kurisu and Daru (working out how to compress the data, and actually hacking the thing together). It's kinda funny to re-watch and see how many of the episodes are just Kurisu and Daru working on the machine in the background while Okabe goes off to do random plot shit in the meanwhile.
