        Anonymous

Shin Kamen Rider's stunts are largely a product of its stunt director and not Anno.
The Stunt Director and Anno publicly clashed over Anno's penchant for incessant rewrites, and how for real fricking people doing the work (and not drawings) that it's actually dangerous to be fricking around with stunts last minute and not just annoying for the poor animators.

          Anonymous

Sure, but that also goes for the music, effects, etc. it's Anno's role to make everything flow together.

            Anonymous

Nah I'd say Anno's actual talent lies in things he storyboards or does layouts for himself, his legacy talent he picked up as a very skilled animator.
And that a lot of why I don't like his new stuff is because he does less and less of that himself so his personal touch, his talent for action/fx sequences, comes through less in these newer films.
Like his Japanese critics say he's become more of a producer than a director.

Cutie Honey Flash is fine, even though it takes its liberties. But all the Cutie Honey anime do.
Flash really is more like a sixth Sailor Moon season, and it's kinda poetic, considering Sailor V and therefore Sailor Moon were inspired in large parts by the original Cutie Honey. That being said, the manga is unreached to this day. The anime adaptation for manga fans is obviously Universe, and the anime adaptation for nostalgic old time fans is the 1973 Cutie Honey.

You mean of Anno's own 2004 anime? Eh ... kinda. They both have basically the same story, but adaptation would imply that one is more "original" than the other, when it's pretty clear that Anno was the driving force behind both, and developed both of them in tandem, at the same time, and in parts with the same team even. You can't really say that the toku or the anime came first or are an adapatation of the other, it's more that they're both part of the same thing.
As for whether they are more an adaptation of the manga or of the 1973 anime ... also not easy to gauge. They're pretty different from either.

      >it lead the way to the fricking moronic shit in Universe
You have no idea what you're talking about. Universe is a straight-up adaptation of the manga. If you hate it, you hate Cutie Honey in general.
Re:CH is Anno's fanfiction, and pretty much changed everything about its source material.
Re:CH is to CH what DUNC is to Dune (just not quite as incompetently made). You complaining about Universe is like people going apeshit because "muh weirding modules" in the Lynch version.

        >straight up adaptation of the manga
        Lol and lmao
Like, a third of the first episode does some stuff beat for beat from the early St. Chapel academy gags from the manga, the rest of it is brainrotted yuri-Otaku shit
Like a /u/ cutey honey fanfiction

I repeat: You have no idea what you're talking about.
It's not about "muh gags", it's about the characters and themes. And Universe nails those.
Whereas Re:CH is the polar opposite. Its Honey is an airhead, Seiji is not Seiji, Natsuko was turned into a lesbian cliché and Jill is more of a parody of Zora.
You don't have to like Universe, but to even suggest that it was in any way built on Anno's version is ridiculous.
Also, any /u/ element of Universe was already in the manga to the exact same extent. Once again, it's Re:CH that went all out on yuri fanservice.
But of course you do not really care for any of that, do you?

I liked the gag where she drove the Panther Claw goons off a cliff in their own car. Something about her facial expressions just cracked me up.

I'm completely blanking on it but yeah, the original definitely had some pretty funny faces and animation drawn in it
For me, its those episodes where she basically barely uses her transformation abilities and just fricking shoots or stabs the Panther Claw to death

I remember being excited when seeing the premise for the first time, girl fights crime and solves mysteries with a combat yo-yo
And then being disappointed by how infrequently the yo-yo was used

The author genuinely just forgot about it at times according to his own bonus manga lel
They also made a live action TV drama version of it that was extremely well received, even moreso than the manga and Saki uses it in all sorts of stupid creative ways; I'd reccomend giving it a look if you're interested in that era of Japanese TV and some easy watching

Bros, was this scene really relevant to the plot?

Uncle Go also appeared in the grittier Cutey Honey Tears movie
I can't find the scene on youtube but he sees Honey in a sexy wienertail dress and gives her a big thumbs up

I didn't expect to see a Cutie Honey homage in a 2024 game. Her surname is Kisaragi though.

was that reference in the original?
Cutey Honey is also extremely important to otaku culture in Japan, it's like referencing the Ashita no Joe death scene

She alerady did that in the DLC to the first part of the remake. And Cutie Honey is massive in Japan. So it's not uncommon that you'd get popculture references like this.

    >none of the live action films has nudity
In the trash it goes. Worst offender was Parasite Doctor Suzune not having Suzune go naked but teased it several times.
When the girl playing her was a gravure model who had been nude several times, makes me seethe to this day.
