They already pulled the plug, that's the problem. They announced the DCEU is dead like a year ago and they're still releasing DCEU films like no one knows. You don't charge full price for discontinued product.
Even if you liked the first Aquaman (and surprisingly, I did) it's hard to have any enthusiasm for a sequel knowing its all just a dead end now. And because the studio couldn't make up their fricking minds it kept getting postponed and rewritten. If this comes out two years ago it probably does just fine

Well in this case they didn't have much choice. You can't start production on so many films in secret so it was always going to come out. Announcing the Gunnverse before the DCEU was over wasn't a mistake so much as an unfortunate necessity.
Where they really fricked up was having no exit strategy whatsoever. They had like five different competing plans that were all contingent on who movies did at the box office but that meant there was no definitive long-term plan to end the thing or transition into a new phase and when Gunn made the sensible choice to just wipe the slate clean they already had all this shit in the can so they just had to put it out there as dead meat. I remember when the Flash was going to soft reboot and Keaton was going to be elder statesman Batman in the new, improved DCEU. They changed their mind about that like five minutes before the movie came out

The screenshot isn't true, btw. Its (reported) budget is lower than The Marvels and is projected to open at $40 million. Movies released during the Christmas break usually have long leads. For example, the Aquaman opened to $67 million and hit $335 million - just in the U.S. Reception to this movie isn't as great, so it won't have those legs, but internationally it's already doing substantially better than Marvels in most markets.
