It is in the context that it’s lord of the rings. If you want to make a fantasy story do it, when you take an IP that exists and alter its story to fit your narrative you’re harming that IP. None of the changes are interesting, it’s not well written even.
And if they don’t just make their own IP with this story the focus is shifted to why these changes are made. And the only answer that remains is that they want to take something that exists, that doesn’t agree with their socio-political views, and alter it until it does.

My biggest fear with Winds of Winter isn't that the book will never be released. My biggest fear is that George wrote Winds of Winter knowing he would never finish the series so he just continues the plot along far enough for things to naturally progress until he's unable to fit any more content inside the next physical book.
I also think this is going to be likely because he really intended Feast and Dance to be one book but publishers forced him to split the two, so really in his head we're on book 4 instead of 6.
