To the Manor Born. Sort of, in the sense there are elements of social class. One character is from old money that has ran out. The other character is a self-made man.
I think it’s weird that people think Brits use “Asians” to refer to pakis as some kind of trick to fool people into thinking they’re chinese or something. It’s not that hard to understand that different countries use different terms. Oriental/East Asian = the American usage of Asian.
it's a serious case of american solipsism and it makes me cringe how smug they are about it like it's some kind of genius observation

It's based around a fundamental misunderstanding of UK demographics. They get confused because they think people from Pakistan are "middle eastern" when they're not. That's why they don't "get it."

They also think everyone pictures a Chinaman in their heads when they hear the word "Asian". If you grow up hearing mostly Indians and Pakistanis being referred to as "Asian", that's what you know them as. How is it a trick at that point? Literally nothing about that makes sense.
It might be technically true, but it's deliberately deceptive. It's like saying: "Most tech support scammers are Indo-Europeans".

It's not though because when a British person hears the word "Asian", they are already mentally filtering it to "Paki".
Now when they do want to deceive they say "British citizen" which is often technically true.

Its not deliberately deceptive, its a historical thing due to empire (India, Pakistan and Ceylon). It doesn't "deceive" anyone because we don't refer to other groups as asian.
We drew the fricking maps anyway, its up to us.

There's nothing deceptive about it; the UK has historically had very little immigration from East Asia whereas we have had enormous immigration from the ex-colonies of Pakistan and India, so when we think of Asia we mostly think of West Asians. We can't exactly group all brown people as pakis when we're needing to be politically correct, so we use the term Asians (or West Asians) to refer to Pakistanis, Indians etc while we refer to the Chinese, Japanese etc as Orientals.
At least that's how it was historically, with how Americanised we've become recently I imagine most British people associate the term "Asian" with Korea/Japan.

Which Americans can’t do, because it’s now considered racist, just like calling Chinamen “Chinamen”.

Is it? I seem to hear Americans refer to them as Orientals all the time as well

When I was doing my first year of my undergraduate degree, someone flipped out on another student for using the word “oriental” to describe East Asians. “You use that word for rugs, not people!” This was in 2004.

It's not "technically true". No British person hears "Asian" and thinks "Chinese" unless they're Americanized by shitty American media.
You're assuming that all media is actually aimed at you even if it's made by and for people in another country.
Like the other anon said, it's nothing but American solipsism.

there are slighting differences between the English of their small island and America, naturally the more prominent usages in so trifling a manner displace theirs without their notice
Ever Decreasing Circles (best sitcom of the 80s, same production team)
Anything with Penelope Keith (The Good Life, To The Manor Born)
Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads (Bob is trying to middle class, Terry doesn't want him to be)
Because no accent is the correct accent, it's all familiarity and public opinion. But accent variety seems to particularly offend Americans as they only have about 5 accents between them.
It had it's moments. Also liked the fact that Adil Ray didn't back down when triggered c**ts complained about the show making fun of Muslims and Islam.
Shazia 1.0 was kinda cute, too bad they replaced her with someone uglier.
They should remake that show. She would literally be the only white person in the entire show. Everybody around her would be black or Indian or some muzzy piece of shit talking ooga booga and looking down on her and insulting her constantly while she still pretends she's living in Downton Abbey times completely oblivious to the racist dystopia her precious labor party has created for her to grow old and die alone in.
>lol classism
>lol accents
>lol awkward
SHUT UP
>t. Labor party supporter
Why do people pretend that Anglos have class?
We definitely do have classes
Because the upper class is doing the same shit as the plebs just in nicer locations and not on the street outside the pub.
We invented it

He’s a Czechoslovakian grocer, and certainly not fit to live in the Manor.
Absolutely Fabulous
this, gf introduced me to it and it's pretty comfy

Ah, I see. Very good.

It's because they're from Asia that's why (Pakistanis). I'm genuinely confused as to why specifically folks from the US don't understand this.

The quintessential British sitcom
I actually liked this show.
Comfy classic sitcom feel and it's not too patronising with it's exclusivity or anything.
It had it's moments. Also liked the fact that Adil Ray didn't back down when triggered c**ts complained about the show making fun of Muslims and Islam.
Shazia 1.0 was kinda cute, too bad they replaced her with someone uglier.
>SHOW BAD BECAUSE BROWN PEOPLE
Frick off leave, moron.
When did I say anything about the show being bad you moronic homosexual? Learn to read English
>le /misc/ boogeyman
Seek mental help, troony
Its actually because Indians and Pakistanis are from the Asian part of the British Empire.
Although once Misc has constructed a conspiracy theory around something it won't give it up.
