Same thing with true crime, women larp that they're "learning so it doesn't happen to me" when there's a clear sadistic voyeuristic pleasure to them. You wouldn't need to watch that much shit about people killing others just to take care of yourself.

Well said. This is pretty close to what Lynch was trying to depict in The Elephant Man, but the key difference is that freak shows back then were deliberately hidden away from public view and viewers had to pay to enter, while now all audience are shown stuff like this without paying a cent, all to draw us in further.

You're right, it can also mean he's incompetent, not omnipotent and/or evil. Daily reminder that the epicurean maxim has never been disproved, because the concept of a benign God is by its very definition in direct contradiction to the world around us. It's as brilliantly simple as it is unassailable.
          >inb4 *tip fedora* fellow atheist
I'm not. It's just that the mainstream Christian idea of a benign God is plain incompatible with the reality of the world. Try to disprove pic related without resorting to le mysterious ways, a disingenuous subterfuge that demands you abandon all logical sense that supposedly is itself given to man by God and somehow, conveniently stops right at that point.

That is by definition an unjust God, as punishment would've been enacted without them having knowledge of good and evil, as it was exactly the thing that was not there beforehand, thus moral decision not being possible.

              >But why would a god need to prevent "evil"?

Because he's good? It's like asking why would Superman need to rescue people from a burning building. If you have the power to help people with no cost to yourself, it would be evil to not do so.

            Anonymous

Easy. This entire 'paradox' is a non-starter. In order to define what 'evil' or 'good' even is, you need to appeal to an objective reality wherein you could use to borrow its definitions. For classical theists, that is God; for pants-on-head redditheists like yourself, there is none. It's all subjective. There is no objective conception of Good and Evil that the atheist can draft without begging the question of what mounts himself a definite authority or magistrate on the matter. You simply cannot accuse God of being evil, in any case. It's like snatching a judge's wig and trying to condemn him with his own gavel.

Was pain, suffering, evil all part of God's plan? No, it wasn't. So why did he allow it. For two simple reasons: Sovereignty and Integrity.

            >Sovereignty

When the snake(Satan) approached Eve again he told her that God was lying and that she WOULD NOT DIE if she ate the fruit. That she would know good and evil and become like God herself. That's why Satan's name is Satan the Devil. It's not his real name. Nobody knows his real name. Satan means "Slanderer" and Devil means Rebel. He was the first to lie, the first to slander and blasphem God, and the first to rebel. Why did Satan want Adam, Eve, and himself to rebel? Because of Sovereignty. The right to rule. Satan STOLE God's sovereignty over humanity by tricking Adam and Eve that THEY would be their own sovereigns themselves by knowing good and evil and "become like God." They would govern themselves and decide their own moral code. God could have destroyed the rebels but he chose not to so they could present their challenge.

            >Can man rule himself and give himself paradise given time?
            >Can Satan rule mankind and be their God instead of Jehovah?
            >Can man bring himself into prosperity, peace, order, and happiness by himself?

These were all challenges to God's sovereignty. So God stepped back, let mankind rule themselves, while the devil secretly ruled them. God's challenge to them and all currently mankind is "prove it."

            Integrity

            >(Job 1:8) And Jehovah went on to say to Satan: “Have you set your heart upon my servant Job, that there is no one like him in the earth, a man blameless and upright, fearing God and turning aside from bad?”

            >(Job 1:9-11) At that Satan answered Jehovah and said: “IS IT FOR NOTHING JOB HAS FEARED GOD?" 10Have not you yourself put up a hedge about him and about his house and about everything that he has all around? The work of his hands you have blessed, and his livestock itself has spread abroad in the earth. 11But, for a change, thrust out your hand, please, and touch everything he has [and see] whether he will not curse you to your very face.”

            >(Job 2:4,5) But Satan answered Jehovah and said: “Skin in behalf of skin, and everything that a man has he will give in behalf of his soul. 5) For a change, thrust out your hand, please, and touch as far as his bone and his flesh [and see] whether he will not curse you to your very face.”

After Adam Eve, Cain Abel, Noah Flood, Sodom and Gomorrah and RIGHT BEFORE the rise of Moses and the 10 Plagues was the issue of Job. At the time JOB WAS THE ONLY GOD APPROVED PERSON ON EARTH. That's right, nobody was good on Earth except Job. Satan noticed that for a while there always continued to be humans loyal to God and wondered why. He reasoned up above that it was because God was bribing them with rewards, pleasures, and nice things. That humans were only loyal to God for rewards and not for sincere love of him. Satan challenged God in from of the angels to "thrust out your hand" and "hurt" him. Deny him all good things and watch as how Job turns against him. "Skin on behalf of skin" means that a man will throw away all of God's moral standards to save their own life. So God has allowed Satan to inflict pain and suffering on humanity to prove that humans will be loyal to God IN RETURN FOR NOTHING.

Good news though. This system of pain in suffering is almost over.

        all part of god's plan

This is a part of YOUR plan! You're Adam and Eve, IDIOTS who had but ONE LAW! don't eat from just that one tree OUT OF MILLIONS!!!!
But you Eve Believed Satan and chose to Obey the devil as ruler!
And then you Adam loved your naive more than God and ate the fruit despite God's warning!

IMAGINE this: Someone you care about says something terrible about you. You know that it is a lie; yet, some believe it. Even worse, they begin repeating the lie, and many others believe it too. How would you feel? If you care about people and your good reputation, the slander would make you feel bad, would it not?—Prov. 22:1.

2 This scenario can help us understand how *GOD* felt when his reputation was tarnished. One of his spirit sons lied about him to the first woman, Eve. She believed the lie. That lie led our first parents to rebel against *GOD*. As a result, sin and death entered the human family. (Gen. 3:1-6; Rom. 5:12) All the problems we see in the world—the deaths, the wars, the misery—have come about because of the lies that Satan began to spread in the garden of Eden. Does *GOD* feel pain because of such slander and its results? Without a doubt. Yet, *GOD* is not bitter, or resentful. In fact, he remains “the happy God.”—1 Tim. 1:11.

      It's a combination of things:

      1. People drawing the short straw genetically, in that they not only have bad genes but the sort of genes that result in massive numbers of benign tumors covering their face and body

      2. Really poor hygine that makes the situation worse

      3. And tying into the first one, some but not all, of the people with these tumors tend to have come from families where incest/inbreeding is common and are the direct product of said inbreeding/incest and that the tumors are the direct result of said inbreeding/incest fricking up one's genetics to make such tumor masses a reality.

The result is a tiny puddle of genetic waste swells into a gigantic flood.
Eugenics is the only solution and it's a crime against humanity that the situation is allowed to continue without it.

Food surpluses and fixing infant mortality
Weird conditions like this and even minor conditions like hayfever have risen over the last century almost proportionately to the decrease in infant mortality
We'll go back to that tho when climate change and antibiotic resistance set in so honestly it's not to be worried about

Yes but it was either not fully documented because they died/were killed before it got that bad or it was turned into folklore.
On the other hand, one has to note that many deformities like siameses, horns, additional limbs and shit have quasi disappeared due to better diagnosis and preemptive surgery

There's two bible verses that will clear up some obfuscation that christians throw down as to God's character.

Genesis 3:22 outlines why God banished Adam and Eve from the garden after they ate the fruit of wisdom. It was because he feared they would next eat from the tree of eternal life, and become like him. This also implies that death was always planned for humanity, and is not a consequence of the fall. The resulting suffering is God preserving his status quo, rather then enabling our sovereignty.

Isaiah 45:7 has God explicitly state that he creates evil. This runs counter to the common defenses that evil is simply the result of God's absence (which should be impossible anyway, considering his omnipresence), or that evil is the result of God's passivity, to allow us "free will". Evil is an intentional invention of God, as he created both light and darkness, he creates good and evil. In his speech in the book of Job, God's defense of this is simply that we could never understand why, and since we have a lord/servant relationship, we have to respect him regardless of whether or not we love him for it.

Keep these things in mind when contemplating the problem of evil.
