Any respect for this classic TV show? I really miss little shows like this.

How did they film it? This cinematography is unironically better than Succession.

Did they really need to do this gag on the intro for every episode? It got old real fast. Good show otherwise.

I'm pretty sure they only did the editing gag for the first couple seasons

I remember watching it at our cabin when we'd stay there in the summer. PBS was like 1 of 4 channels we had along with nbc,cbs and abc. Good times.

Cheesehead here. Was living in Colorado and late one night stumbled upon this little gem on PBS. Got so homesick I nearly cried.

It's a dumb show but I'll always have fond memories watching it with my dad. I liked the Ranger Gord educational films. Could be kind of comfy viewing for me at this point.

I'll be honest with you anons. I kinda use it as therapy.
When I'm having a stressful day I usually turn this show on (it's free on tubi) & I read a book while watching. Something about Steve Smiths gravelly but kind voice helps soothe my soul when I'm feeling like life has a personal vendetta against me. No joke. I'm a married dude with kids & I'm caught in the grindstone bad, i dont have any friends or real freetime. When he says "I'm pulling for you, we're all in this together" I want to cry sometimes

Thanks anon. My family does love me & I love them. It just gets overwhelming as a man to try & keep the kids fed & engaged, so they become good people, with skills, protect them from all the weird shit out there, always being two paychecks from broke etc.

    >TV show featuring straight, white men in an all men's club
    >Shows a non-onions, positive outlet for masculinity for boys and young men.
    >"If the women don't find ya handsome, they can at least find ya handy!"
    >The only onions character is literally the laughing stock
    >No women, Red's wife is literally only ever off-screen

This show would literally never get made today, especially in Trudeau's Canada. My childhood best friend didn't have a dad and was a shit stirrer, no-gf, awful student, until he really got into this and Holmes on Homes and turned his shit around, eventually getting into trade work and met his wife there. They don't want that shit happening anymore.

I would have loved 90's Canada. It was very white, & not too socialist or capitalist.

I found it weird in the later seasons when the nerd guy went off to like college or something and couldn't be on the show as much, but they still got him to come on sometimes as a "guest" star as if he never left.

This show is one of my few memories of childhood, and one of the few pleasant ones. I don't know why it sticks out in my mind. The only specific thing I recall from it is something like them building a big electric fence that kills bugs, or something.

I liked the episode where Red makes his own condom and anally rapes Harold, but my mom forbid me from watching the show after that one. After all these years, were there any good episodes I missed?

The one where Harold held down Winston and made him watch as Ranger Gord had his way with his wife. Series took a dark turn after that one, I'll never forget Gord's wildlife-related quips during the act. But Winston seemed OK after a couple episodes.

Sincerely one of my favourite TV shows. It's cornball, sure, but it's earnest. I met Steve Smith in 2010 when he started touring as Red Green, and aside from being astonished how short he was, I remember leaving the theatre with my face sore from smiling and laughing which is the only time I think I've ever experienced that. I've considered subscribing to his new paywalled podcast but his son co-hosts and the guy is fricking insufferable.
