they existed but they didn't have flawless skin, bleach blond hair, top designer clothing, etc. I get that she's supposed to be an exception but they went too over the top. They could've toned it down a bit and make her blend in a bit better with the period.
Her hair was supposed to be naturally platinum coloured. It wasn't bleached. Heaps of young girls have a flawless complexion, even more likely in her situation seeing as her diet would have been super clean, no processed foods or additives. Growing up in luxury and then being a queen, her clothes all would have been made specifically for her too.

Honorable goals.
Understandable flaws.
Enticing romances.
Heroic victories.
She's there to make the reader forget that she's exactly like every other despot in the book -- or more like how easy it is to fall into the mindset that makes a once good person do evil things.
Problem is -- the fricking writers of the show fell for it hook line and sinker and yaaaasss qwweeeen'd dragon Hitler. Then got all surprised when the incredibly obvious reveal was incredibly obviously revealed by Martin, because they had written themselves into a corner.

those with Valyrian ancestry are considered more beautiful than anyone else. In general in the ASOIAF series people don't look like normal medieval people, there's loads of massive characters, purple eyes, etc.
If I was making a show like this, i'd definitely cast someone taller with sharper, more serious features, like a Cate Blanchett or Debicki for example. But then again, I didn't write ASOIAF or direct GOT and the whole thing seems like of stupid to me in hindsight so my show would be totally different anyway.
