Actually no, some spiders use vibrations caught by their webs to detect danger. It's just applying that principle to the space around them.

Spiders use electricity as a way to fly and catch prey. Some even makes webs that conduct current.

A venom blast is just a turn of a paralyzing spider-bite.

The sword is COMICS. Much like how a fully trained homicidal peter can suddenly use his senses to predict the future.

Why does Miles even need to exist?

He doesn't. Why do the execs want him to exist? Because they're possessed by the idea that Spider-Man should not be Peter Parker, and cannot be reasoned out of it.

I'm a different anon. In any case, Peter Parker is singularly so central to Marvel's value and ability to push product that I could say the entire executive and creative lead divisions of the company hold culpability for his current state and I wouldn't be far off. The shareholders, the executives, the editors, the writers; everyone with any creative control or money in the game is dropping the fricking ball and aptly losing the company both revenue and IP value while tanking its image.

                Anonymous

I'm the anon who made the post, not that guy, and holy shit you lack basic critical thought.

If I'm the exec that's making decisions on what will happen to Spider-Man, and I have to hire one of these two writers, which do you think I'm going to pick?
                >A writer that agrees with me naturally of his own accord
                >A writer that doesn't and will fight my decisions nonstop

The execs want writers who want what they want. They want Peter neutered. They want their writers to also want Peter neutered

                Anonymous

Peter was already neutered by Quesada's desire to "recreate the glory days." Miles and the Spider-verse were created to allow fans to still imagine themselves as Spider-Man without inserting onto a manchild who consciously ruined his own life.

You know why people like Miguel? New setting, he is different as a character, has his own cast of characrers and he is still called Spider-Man.

        Anonymous

Miguel is operating in a different time frame, so it's not as big of an issue. Miles will never reach full potential if he's always in peter's shadow. They had to sideline Jay, allan, hal, and barry when they wanted to push barry, hal, kyle, and wally as the lead of that name.

i'm sure this has been answered and i know I won't retain it and I'm definitely closing this thread after this post, but what DO civilians call Miles, since they don't know his real name? it would be laughably unrealistic if they didn't call him 'black spider-man' just for the costume, having no idea who's under there but being aware enough it's a different, smaller guy, unlike the last time they had a black-suited spider-man.

also war machine fricking rules. having him replace tony because of his skin color was stupid, but then they spun it interestingly, making him incompatible with the suit, then getting his own.. perfect.

        He's just Spider-Man

Sometimes they might differentiate them by saying the Brooklyn Spider-Man, or the one on the Champions, the young one, etc

When Miguel was living on 616 they didn't call him 2099, he was just Spider-Man. And he operated in New York

They SHOULD call him black spider man because his outfit is black and they made it a point that his costume got ripped, and the marvel public saw it an REJOICED that he was black.

Miles Morales is the secret identity of Spider-man.
When Pete wants time off, he disguises himself as Spider-man, then puts on black face and hangs out with teenagers.

If Miles was legit people wouldn't refer to him as Miles. They'd just call him Spider-Man. But they don't. Even the comics don't call him just Spider-Man. Because they know he'd kill the brand, because he sucks.
