No, because Chuck Jones era Tom and Jerry was worse. Nothing but pretentious cutesy wutesy shit not even Disney would want. The Deitch shorts were at least memorable.
I love them. They had an ethereal quality, the sound editing was bizarre that added to the weirdness and they fact that they were made by commies just makes it even more interesting. Also? The Captain in 'Dickie Moe' just makes me laugh.
I know Cinemaphile hates them but they aren't terrible, it just wasn't a good fit.
I hated Deitch-era Tom and Jerry as a kid, but rewatching them made me appreciate the art direction more. Dicky Moe has some stunning backgrounds and color palettes. Helps that I'm more familiar with Eastern-Euro animation so it's not as bizarre.
When Chuck Jones T&J worked, I always thought it was more imaginative as a kid. The space cartoon with the robot cat and mouse comes to mind. Otherwise Jones' style felt more memorable than the shorts themselves, up to and including Tom's bushy eyebrows, the weird funky jazz, and making me think Jerry was a girl.
Eh, I can appreciate what he was doing. He had a drastically lower budget so he had to cut corners somehow and given thay context they seem fine.
Don't care for Chuck Jones' stuff though, guess Looney Tunes humor just doesn't translate well to Tom and Jerry.
Look at some of Chuck Jones' last looney tunes. He generally devolved into cartoons where he thinks all the characters need to do is glance at the audience and twitch their face and it will sell the nothingness going on.
Deitch's era has a charming crudeness and sometimes he goes full European and does something artistic and Jones are amazing cartoons for their time Jones storyboarding and animation skills are the best feature of this era but Tom and Jerry were never good in fact despite the massive budget the cartoons were a bit poor with some funny jokes but poor pacing
my only issue with Deitch era is that fricking boomerang brazil decided to get rid of both hanna barbera and his era to broadcast only chuck jones due to some moronic censorship
Better than the Filmation era, which strangely enough got John K a job in the industry

Would honestly take those than the filmation or 2014 shorts honestly.
As great as Jones was as an animator and director, he and Tom & Jerry were unironically a bigger mismatch than Deitch and the franchise.
Jones' T&J is unironically way too fricking tame and cutesy and the slapstick never lands for me.
These are a guilty pleasure for me. Minus the Clint Clobber shit. I thought the animation was nice.
The russian spacemouse scared the shit out of me as a kid, I have no idea why.
I don't. Why the frick do people hate this era. Maybe Clint clobber was an butthole I guess.
I had a dream where they rebooted and Clint was married to Mammy Two Shoes. I mean could it work?
Still better than this shit.
I disagree that it was shit but why does metv likes airing these shorts like the famous popeye shorts?
>Still better than this shit.
Counter argument

Now THIS was complete shit.

Me. Shit was very offputting and they always ruined my enjoyment of the Tom and Jerry block on Boomerang.

The Deitch era is overhated.
It's peaks are more interesting than the Jones era which honestly mid
Sometimes you need to pepper these in to better appreciate what we had in the HB era
what the frick is wrong with eastern european animation having strange animation and strange sound effects?
its the Musique concrète of animation
