Depends on the villain you're working for. I wouldn't recommend The Monarch for someone who has something to live for.

It doesn't help that more than half of his henchmen are suicidal. Whether they were before or after joining is up to interpretation though

You're fodder, expendable. Most of The Monarch's men are drug addicts and high school dropouts. You get the occasional marine or merc, but it's like 10 to 1

ok look the monarch pic is just a general representation. like yeah most of them are canon fodder but what about the rich successful criminals?

You mean like The Penguin? You're either nothing to them, or taken care of. Depends

Outside looking in my friend. You as an audience member and spectator can enjoy the thrills from afar without the reality of the horrible situation. Your life is on the line daily, either from your boss, rival foes, or the hero

Yeah but that's with the backing of an entire country's government and corrupt financial system. Not some moron in a costume

Only if you're working for a hero. Oddly enough, there don't seem to be any heroes who have henchmen in the VB universe. Which makes absolutely no sense for what kind of setting it is.

There was an entire episode about the Guild and OSI working together to figure out why Zeus was kidnapping sidekicks and henchmen from both sides.

The OSI doesn't fricking count. They're just SHIELD with the serial numbers filed off. I'm talking about individual heroes/teams with their own henchmen.

Look for the middle weights if you want to hench. Low bars like Calendar man have nothing to lose, while Lex Luthor can just write your widow a check if his lawyers don't just scare the family off. The middle of the line, like the Rogues will take care of you. Always double check who they arch too. People like Black Mask end up vs killer heroes way too often for comfort.

isn't the venture team just a bunch of henchman for Venture?

Jonas was breaking laws constantly directly and through proxy, and was also probably doing a bit of looting on the side too while on his travels.
You don't keep a super solider roid rage hitman around because you're a nice guy.

        Quality vs Quantity
Antagonists are all about supporting one guys hate, so you never take the focus off of him. Protagonists are about the team, even if there is a central person, so you get your various Brocks and Action Men
