This. I used to wish for big budget adaptations of the things I liked, now I live in fear of them.

The animeme was good until the outside world became a thing, I really enjoyed the idea of homies being in a triple or quadruple walled island and frickhuge giants coming out of nowhere trying to destroy them.

Even after that it was good. It just fricked up the landing by having Eren and Mikasa's romance be something ghost giant wanted to schlick to instead of letting it be Eren gets all he wanted for Paradis, extinct the world outside the island, so nothing to see beyond the sea, and the Islanders go right to killing each other in the new default Eden.

I don't know, I dropped it fairly quickly after they revealed it.
The idea of "we're not locking the outside world out, we locked ourselves in and forgot about it" was kind of cool, but I just stopped caring, I just really liked seeing medieval homies with a Spiderman machine fighting giants.

NETFLIX wants to make it, but the mangaka said he won't accept anyone other than Zack Snyder. Apparently Isaiama is a Snydertard.

He is very clearly opposed to militarism and authoritarianism. What makes you think he’d fetishize Nazism?

ODM gear is the most unrealistic part of the setting. I have no problem accepting that there's a race of people with the ability to transform into mindless giant man eating monsters if injected with titan spinal fluid, but there's no way that Paradis, an island with a pre-industrial revolution level of technology could create equipment like that, they haven't even developed canned food yet

Also a lot of the time the ODM prongs aren’t attaching to anything, they just go up into the air and the person is literally just flying. Like when Historia killed the chunk of her dad’s Titan.

        >Like when Historia killed the chunk of her dad’s Titan.
There had been a lot of excusable ODM gear moments where you can convince yourself "there's probably a bell tower or a big building just offscreen." That was completely thrown out the window for that scene. I couldn't believe that there wasn't some kind of paper-thin setup to explain things. They could say something like "We set up these leaf springs from the carts! If you launch off them with ODM gear, they'll propel you high enough to take him out, but we only have one chance! Everyone needs to be completely ready!" And then have Historia run to the right one before everyone else because she knows where he's falling because of Paths. Instead Iseyama was just like "what if it was Spiderman The Movie Game for the PS2" and kneecapped his worldbuilding.

You could rationalize that she was swinging from the giant chunks of her dad's body.

Same problem, how'd she get to them in the first place?

I hope somebody got fired for that blunder.

Developing it is not unrealistic at all. They found a unique resource called "iceburst stone" underground on the island, which enables the gas power on the ODM gear. It stands to reason that technological process will deviate if a population is cut off from the rest of the world, and necessity also breeds invention. That's why wars have always led to technological progress. So being faced with man-eating giants, they came up with that technology. That's fine and believable.

What's not believable is that their human bodies can fly around and maneuver with that shit, and slice out big chunks of titans' necks with swords, without getting whiplash or breaking their bones.

Did people already forget the Andy Muschietti Hollywood adaptation? I mean it's pretty much vapor at this point but it was announced. Anyway, AOT went to shit after Marley so who cares

I still think it's listed as a project for his production company. Haven't seen the Flash yet but it seems like he fumbles the CGI pretty hard so I expect it to be dog shit if he ever makes it. There are only a handful of directors with good enough CGI direction (Synder, Villeneuve etc) to even pull it off anyways.
