Because he was representing the US against Russia during the Cold War.
Apollo was more of an American than a lot of you fricks.
You make this thread, on this, the eve of the most American Holiday??
Apollo was starting to feel old and useless by this point, the fight against Drago was both a way for him to show he still had it and a way for him to represent the greatness of America before the USSR, Apollo was always a patriot after all
I know this is bait but I'll bite for the ESL's out there. The most American Holyday will always be Thanksgiving. I also didn't celebrate it because, why fricking would I? I'm a straight, white male. I have gone to college, worked the corpo ladder and paid taxes all my life. I am at the wrong end of 35 without a spouse or kids. I don't own a home, the bank does. Everywhere I look I see more and more decay, more isolation, anger and despair. The state robs me every day, I am being poisoned by the food I eat, water I drink and air I breathe. The media tells me it's all my fault and utopia will be achieved once I'm robbed of everything I am (since I own nothing) and I'm drawn and quartered at the town square. I have nothing but contempt by the current state of my country so I say it proudly: if Ivan, Chang or Ahmed paraglide into my backyard I'll point them to the nearest power station with a pat on the back.
It's a dope jacket. I'm glad we finally got it proper in REmake 4. The original footage of it back in the day with the hook man had it as well. The one we ended up getting was nerfed to hell and back.
thats probably the best scene in the film, its a great montage and really highlighted the growth and development, that long drive Rocky needs to clear his mind yet can't let go of what just happened, it hits hard.
>who never learns
He learned after Rocky I.
The next fight he took seriously. He trained hard, he was the superior fighter, and he had the eye of the tiger. Rocky was mostly distracted, rushed his training, and only won because of plot armor.
Carl Weathers' Creed should have won the rematch, Rocky should have retired, and the series should have continued with based charismatic Weathers as the lead.
Creed I would have a once more wienery and complacent Apollo lose to the tougher Clubber Lang, Would have been great having Creed get trained by Mickey and Rocky in Philly before absorbing all Lang had and then running rings around him with his superior technique.
Creed II would surprise us with a Rocky that we already knew had health problems coming out of retirement to put on an exhibition against Drago and being put down. After training in Russia, Creed's iconic moustache would be joined by a magnificent beard, and a black American overcoming the odds and uniting sports fan would carry a stronger message than Stallone's victory, comparable to Jessie Owens.
Creed III would complete the trilogy. Apollo getting one last fight, harkening back to Ali's Drama in Bahama

This is what a film score used to sound like. When you get through the long foreboding of Going the Distance and it builds and drops into The Final Bell, you are literally in that ring as Rocky, you feel the sense of achievement. How the frick did we go from this to praising Hans Zimmer as some kind of profound musical genius for a fricking four note major-major-minor-major progression?

This guy gets it
Yes it is
He was high off of Rocky's victory from III
Apollo was starting to feel old and useless by this point, the fight against Drago was both a way for him to show he still had it and a way for him to represent the greatness of America before the USSR, Apollo was always a patriot after all
True
"American Holiday"? Christmas existed centuries before your hideous country.
Yet you celebrate it the American way now, curious.
>slot cars
Nice i got my. 4 year old some for Christmas
So did I
Prove it.

Tomorrow isn’t thanks giving or Independence Day Black person.
>the most American Holiday
Gay pride month is 6 months from now.
it was an exhibition match
THROW THE DAMN TOWEL.
God, I heard it in my head. This makes me want to immediately do a rewatch. I have those newer HD versions that look great anyway. I'm gonna do it.
it was supposed to be a friendly exhibition
>living in america
>be dumb
pick both
>movie has 3 montages and a full performance of "Livin' In America"
rocky 4 isn't a good movie
>rocky 4 isn't a good movie
Correct.
You're right. The word is 'kino'
Rocky 4 is a GREAT movie
Vince DiCola did the music, it's an incredible movie
So…more montages? Four montages, Jeremy? That’s insane.
the montages are good though
has 3 montages and a full performance of "Livin' In America"
That's a good thing
>THERE'S NO EASY WAY OUT
>THERE'S NO SHORTCUT HOME
Pure unadulterated kino.
>IS IT EAST VERSUS WEST
>OR MAN AGAINST MAN?
back when japanese devs stole liberally from western movies
a better time

Hey thats Leon's jacket
thats probably the best scene in the film, its a great montage and really highlighted the growth and development, that long drive Rocky needs to clear his mind yet can't let go of what just happened, it hits hard.
Apollo's greatest weakness was always his pride.
Does this qualify as fridging? Apollo is killed off solely for the sake of Rocky's motivation.
It's heavily implied at the beginning of the movie that Apollo is getting old and doesn't want to live a life where people stop screaming his name.
Apollo is an Ali rip-off, of course he's a wienery trash talker who never learns
>who never learns

It was a front. Big Ruskie was terrifying. Apollo put on a brave face & died on his shield. Admirable.
>Paulie and robot scenes
>HAPPYBIRTHDAYPAULIE
its so bizarre i sort of like it
That’s stupid he was just doing a bit, in Rocky 3 Rocky was not taking his training seriously. Two completely different things.
it was supposed to be a SHOW FIGHT! He was basically retired and just in it for a laugh and a paycheck.

Bill Conti is the fricking man.
that reprise of the final bell with the beat like a stallion's gallop is a very, very nice detail
He was always a showman
And retired at this point
I saw it as him reliving the good old days enjoying the spot light
>I feel born again
Apollo was never going to have a life outside the ring. He had too much of the eye of the tiger.
easily best score for any movie; frickin james brown living in america
love it
I watched this when I was six and it was the first time I remember seeing naked women (well, women in thongs)
apollo is black
and rocky is israeli
The subtext is pretty clear, Apollo knew he was probably going to die but that's how he wanted to die, fighting, instead of growing old and weak.
