popeye is usually a lighthearted romp with a decent story involved. no blood, just the occasional bruise; and spinach is his activation method for accessing his reality altering powers.
plus Popeye is canonically invincible. he shouldn't be capable of bleeding.
It's just inherently bloodless series. It's done not only to lean into cartoonish surrealism like pic related without breaking suspension of disbelief, but it's also to emphasize how much of a badass Popeye is. This dude can and has taken beatings of a lifetime, only to walk away without a drop of blood on him because he's just that durable. Hell, in the original comics he tanked GOD HIMSELF shutting down ALL of reality like it was nothing.
So to see some anime frickboy come in and make Popeye job to the point of bleeding is a bit insulting, to say the least.
New things being anime influenced is cool
Seeing legacy western toon IPs like Popeye and Felix get involved with this anime/vidya Japanese style is a bit depressing
I’m fine with a few things being anime influenced but it’s pretty tiring at this point. It also just pisses me off seeing classic toon characters in this style, I don’t know why
Who would be the other playable characters? Roughhouse and Wimpy?
Hire Studio MDHR to do the animation and it will be half way to success. Heck, have Cuphead, Mugman and Chalice for some DLC and you can have a sweet second payday.
Bluto serving as the M. Bison of the game could be fun
[...]
if they were up for it there's a handful of other PD toons they could add to the game. Felix and Oswald come to mind.

Eh, except for the artstyle, the joke is on point, and having the green haired girl be an apprentice to the sea hag is either a very good joke or a very great unintentional joke.
This shit
With some villain apparently beating Popeye even after he ate spinach once, completely misses the point.
in addition to Felix and Oswald >Merrie Melodies' Bosko, Foxy, Piggy, and Goopy Geer >Fleischer's Koko the Clown and Bimbo the dog >Gertie the Dinosaur >Toby the Pup
Soulless as frick.
>blood
>in a Popeye comic
I'm almost inpressed how hard this misses the point.
Trend chasing is an embarrassing waste of time for all parties involved.

explain, I’m not a big Popeye gay

>Replacing the unique old timey aesthetic for generic overused anime crap
Dropped.
Olive is cute though
sadly that's the standard nowadays. its a very embittering transition.
That’s what everyone is into.

>Felix
When was the last time he got involved with anything at all?
New comic that had backed off release the past month, it is honing very in on the fact he influenced Sonic
I’m fine with a few things being anime influenced but it’s pretty tiring at this point. It also just pisses me off seeing classic toon characters in this style, I don’t know why
I'm fine with it if it's genuine westaboos making fanart of cartoons, but if it's just a corporate product it just feels hollow.
As always I reserve judgment until I see how they handle the Sea Hag.
The arts not bad, I’m just tired of anime artstyles taking over everything. The old style was great
How is that no one tried to do a Popeye beat em up yet? Vidyas are what sell today, and he fits perfectly in that genre.
he goes into the public domain next year. sooner or later its bound to happen. after the last popeye release he could really use a quality game.

Retro cartoon beat em up sounds kino as frick
I didnt mention it in my previous post but Dan Backslide could also be included in the roster. This is an idea Ive thought alot about to be honest.
The aesthetic of old Fleischer cartoons in a beat em up makes so much sense that I'm surprised that its never been done before (as far as I know)
Who would be the other playable characters? Roughhouse and Wimpy?
>Bluto/Brutus
>Alice the Goon
>Pappy
>probably some gasoline alley characters if you can remember any
I'd think Bluto would be a villain in the game
Pappy and Alice would be good picks though
Bluto serving as the M. Bison of the game could be fun
if they were up for it there's a handful of other PD toons they could add to the game. Felix and Oswald come to mind.
>Gasoline alley
are you sure you didn't Thimble Theater?
yeah my bad I had a brain fart there
If you read the comics, most of the fights started because of wimpy. He’s the real protagonist
I guess Olive Oyl could be a playable character if Sweetpea is the character you're suppose to save
>beat the game on most difficult level
>unlock the old Popeye arcade game
Eh, it's been done
I’d take that over the soulless husk the previous one turned out.

Popeye already had an anime done by actual people from Japan.
[spolier] In a pachinko game. [/spoiler]
>japan has more appreciation for classic american icons than america
many such cases
>We want the manga audience.
