Lets have a thread about Arthur and everything that make him special. And discuss how he can have an ongoing again instead of minis or one-shots

O just want to go back to the abnett status quo. I’m sick of how diverse they made the book frankly. Not every character needs to have a “batfam” equivalent. Superman, flash, Wonder Woman, aquaman, ect do not need these extended “families” of diverse replacements.
Weren't they doing a lot of this shit back in the 60s and 70s before Crisis erased almost all of it?
Every major DC hero had a boy, girl, dog, monkey, and horse knockoff running around wearing their logo? A huge Superman family, Shazam family, Flash family, etc.
was pic related any good?
Not at all. In fact it was fricking horrible. Christian ward is youre typical modern tracer who can’t conceive of panels without making concessions for his stock image and 3D models and Ram is one of the worst examples of a modern writer with a head in the clouds, arrogance through the roof, and absolutely nothing worthwhile to say
Two of my least favorite creators making a shitty comic describes this perfectly.
it was pretty decent
It was okayish but it could have worked without the character of Aquaman, its the classic story where the writer has an idea but cannot sell it as an OC so he needs to use a character to publish the story but the character has no real weight
Complete waste of time.
This. And that pretty much describes almost every Ram comic I’ve read.
I hated this shit, dropped it after the first book. The art was awful.
Shill
Hell Yeah.
I wish US readers were more accepting of superhero comics not set in the USA. But they're not, so titles like Aquaman or Black Panther or space titles don't sell anymore. it fricking sucks since it's only become this way since the 2000s.
Most of aquaman’s stories take place in or around the US. He’s literally from Massachusetts. Atlantis I’m in the Atlantic and he’s fast enough under water that it might as well be Martha’s vinyard.
Is that his new origin now?
It's Maine actually and it's been his origin from the late 50's to early 90's and again from 2011 to now. Also he doesn't have a lot of America stories like it's maybe 25%.
More than that, they basically have to be street level to get any attention.
What a terrible drawing. Arther looks more like Jackson than Arthur here. And look at the dopey arms.
Peter David's run was good but always gets hated on. before that run Aquaman was also resigned to short-lived/mini series and guest appearances but David sat down and gave him a full supporting cast and recurring villains and it worked well enough that it allowed him to become a stable enough character to appear in other media again and eventually give Johns a chance to write him. So blessed.
>Peter David's run was good but always gets hated on.
David's run did a good job providing more depth to Atlantis but he really fricked the character's core in some instances, the totally opposite to Johns run that provide good character development but fricked the Altantis enviorment
NTA can you explain? I felt Johns did really cool shit with Atlantis
Johns did a perfect job with the characters of Arthur, Mera and Orm but he forgot about the rest of the supporting characters which during that time looking back on it was the right decision but its one of the flaws of that run and with respect to Atlantis, sure there was the Throne of Atlantis event but it was just Atlantis attacks the surface world for the tenth time. On the other hand, with David's work there was more work focused on the city of Atlantis with Atlantis Chronicles first and then in his run with the addition of other kingdoms, adding new aspects to the Altlatean culture or simply giving an Altlatean name to Arthur with Orin
What other Atlantean characters are there that Johns could have used? Aqualad and Aquagirl?
Garth
Tula
Arion
Dolphin
Siren
Letifos
Deep Blue
Kordax
I liked Abnett bringing Atlanna back even if it was because they knew she'd be in the movie. Making her a cool warrior queen was a fun idea.
Abnett’s run was spectacular top to bottom
I thought it would be okay for Aquaman to not be yet another orphan. Having Atlanna around to handle state business is the same thing they do with Black Panther. plus her being a muscle mommy was of course not a downside. Unfortunately I think she was re-killed after that run ended or retconned out.
Frick I love Kordax. He's such a good villain.
I want that whole family of underwater heroes thing going again. The Sea Devils, Tsunami, Arion and Aquaman and his crew.
Well yes. Take Tula for example, By making her into Orm's half sister and having her a part of the Atlantean military she was suddenly given a unique role with a ton of potential for politics and character drama
And all of that potential got wasted and now she doesn't really do anything. She barely even appears
Am I the only one whose favorite part of Aquaman's mythos is Mera? I find her character more interesting than Arthur's
I like her but this feels like a shill/market researcher looking to steer discussion. Nobody in the world would actually say
>I find her character more interesting than Arthur's
Remember how they casually made her insane and then had Arthur kill her in the 80s? And then she was gone for 10 years and when she came back she was fricking a villain and was stll nuts?
And that lasted until Blackest Night, where John fixed her and turn her into a top tier waifu
Wow. Did that shit seriously happen?
I know next to nothing when it comes to Aquaman.
>Wow. Did that shit seriously happen?
Mera went crazy after Black Manta murdered their son. It took a while for her to go totally insane but in one of the 80s series she tried to kill Arthur, who seemingly killed her in self-defense. She wasn't dead though and went back to her alien water-dimension. When she came back in the 90s she was still sorta crazy at first, still blaming Arthur for everything.
Does she ever have a barefoot costume? Asking for a friend.
Yeah
She has a couple when she was pregnant and the one that she wears in one story in the Deep Dive digital series
There is STILL no ongoing and that bums me out. He's one of my favorite characters. It's nice and all that there's at least an occasional miniseries but come ON, he sustained an ongoing for a longass time before recently.
Kelly Sue drove him into the ground and left him there.
Why have an Aquaman ongoing when you can read Batman, other Batman, Detective Comics, Nightwing, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, Penguin, Gotham City Sirens, fourth Batman, Joker mini, and Batgirl in a month?
who has time for Aquaman?
How about a Batman book in Atlantis? Like a Batman of Atlantis as a new member of Batman Inc.

Atlantis now has a new ruler—long live Depth Charge! Amanda Waller’s loyal Amazo Robot known as Depth Charge has stolen Aquaman’s powers along with his throne, and now all Atlanteans must stay in line or risk having their powers taken as well. It’s up to Jackson Hyde and the rest of the Aqua-Family to launch a revolution…without being discovered!
New 52 Aquaman run was peak, it'll never be topped. It stayed good even after Geoff left it, just a consistently good adventure for a long while.
Any of you guys got crazy ideas if you got your hands on Aquaman?
I'd have post flashpoint Aquaman and post crisis Aquaman be separate characters. Same with all three versions of Orm. Orin would have the same origin as in the Atlantis Chronicle, General Marius would take over after and try to force the King's sister Atlana to marry him causing her to flee to the surface and Have Arthur with Tom Curry. Tom gets remarried but it doesn't last leading to precrisis schizo human Orm (probably change the name and have him become the Fisherman instead). Eskimo Orm is Orin's wizard archenemy. I'd also have both Atlans, it never set well with me that Atlantis got sunk after a single generation so post flashpoint would be an early pre sinking king and postcrisis would be like in TAC and David Aquaman.
It's not imaginative like yours, I just want a crossover. Aquaman vs the aquatic Cloverfield monster(s). The story should include the slushies and how the first monster was young and small.
>Any of you guys got crazy ideas if you got your hands on Aquaman?
Give me a F4 book in terms of the family dynamic and space adventures but in the sea
For Aquaman to have all the abilities you'd think he'd have. Like using his telepathy to brain blast people or shooting lightning from his trident or letting him use the water rasengan from the 60's cartoon.
Unfortunately not. It's hard to b***h about that lack of a book when I have pretty much no ideas on what I would do if I was in charge.
Much like how I'm tired of the never-ending struggle with the X-Men and their inability to bring humans and mutants together, I think I'd like to try and push forward with humans and Atlanteans getting along and collaborating on social and environmental issues that I don't really care about. Maybe take a page from the old GI Joe cartoon and have a new revolutionary invention pop up every week that Aquaman and his peeps (I liked The Others from Johns' run so I may try and bring them back in some way) have to protect from cartoonishly evil terrorists that want to deprive everyone else of nice things and take over the world. I don't know if any book is using Kobra right now, so maybe I'd just go with them. I'd likely invent or dig up some unused Luthoresque billionaire-type who doesn't like Atlantis and their super-science getting in the way of turning the human race into bug-eating peasants.
If that all isn't bad enough, I might even be tempted to give him a new annoying sidekick.
>Merra's masculine jaw
I think they need to improve on expanding his rogues gallery. I know they've tried, but none stick out as much as Black Manta and Ocean Master
