I know this is the wrong website to be complaining about female protagonists, but after the disaster that was the female showrunner led 2010s where emotions and girls were in the spotlight, the "best" and most talked about cartoons in our current decade are... girls dealing with emotions.
What is it about characters displaying awkwardness and insecurity that fascinates the female mind?

i'm a boy and i want to demolish pomni's jester ass so i'd say there are still cartoons being made for boys
HE JUST LIKE ME
HE JUST LIKE ME FR
for example iirc Glitch is Australian based so they get money from the Australian government's grant funding Aussie-based entertainment(despite Glitch using a lot of talent that works from home abroad)
>after the disaster that was the female showrunner led 2010s
Please elaborate
I'm a dude and I like Hazbin Hotel.
We have a serious problem with males having no media made explicity for them, both in cartoons and in general. We have media for girls and then media for 'everyone'.
It's also true that boys like cute girls and if you give them fun or likeable personalities they will often enjoy their shows. But people who are into more masculine products have been abandoned, at least by the big studios. And very young kids need role models and characters who resemble them. Parents who care about their boys have nothing to offer them but older media.
You have Skibibidi toilet, now frick off
Tsmt…..
frick off soillenial Black person
yeah it's pretty shit. When Anime is the main carry you know shit is grim.
>because they can't be emotional without looking like pussies
female hands typed this
frick off shill Black person, no one does this
Appealing to the adult baby audience IS what killed cartoons. They abandoned their actual audience. As good as it was, Steven Universe should have been crippled before it got a chance. Same with Bee & Puppycat.
Which is why they’ve gravitated to anime. Tons of series that are unapologetically for dudes.
Anime turns dudes into dudette-wannabees
It was never a problem until all nerd communities got flooded with troonshine.
We should instead be asking why being a male nerd is so miserable that trooning out is a better alternative
It's called being liquidated sweetie. Boomers are heading to their big die-off and you are the leftovers. Rack up debt and pay increasingly higher taxes and get killed by Black folk, the rest of the world will eat your lunch as the bankers groom them into the next generation of boomers. Pretty soon you'll be paying a mountain of worthless dollar bills to afford bread, and when you inevitably rebel and get defeated you'll end up a footnote in history. The next Hitler and his Nazis, devils without any sympathy. No one will care because you were always the fertilizer shat out to nurture what comes next. At the very least you aren't getting that banker dick wedged in as hard as zoomers and gen-alpha will, be thankful that your biggest woes are not having sex and Comics & Cartoons
>the trannies are a conspiracy by middle aged dads to emasculate young men
Really?
>constantly pulling up the ladder behind you on every way you grew up or ever succeeded will create a bunch of emasculated directionless weak men who wont breed
Yes
Autism and mental illness. Very common with outcasts.
Just the girly ones.
Tell that to the big black fella at the gym I go to who always wears DBZ and Demon Slayer shirts
Just the white ones.
Never seen a black dude get turned into a troony from watching anime.
Even Thad, who was a giant waifugay moegay with body pillows and everything, didn't turn into a troony.
He just fricked them while he was in prison.
Anime was always better at attracting boys than western cartoons, DBZ blew the frick up and almost immediately dubs started eating the west's lunch.
The sad thing is that even anime that are specifically made for boys end up have a predominant female audience. Hell, I remember it too. I couldn't find a single dude that liked or appreciated Full Metal Alchemist when it was new. Even new shit like MHA, JJK, and KNY have a dominant female audience.
It's almost like women also like competent and emotional men who solve their issues with excessive violence.
Who'da thunk it?
Why do they always cry about male violence if they love it so much?
They like male violence inflicted on their enemies on their behalf, not on themselves.
Unless they're a masochist.
Real world violence which is about war and policing is based on a complicated situation with shades of grey.
In shounens the bad guys are clearly something that must be eliminated. They are cartoonishly evil or have a morally grey reason for destroying the world which must obviously be stopped despite the gray. Either they kill the bad giy or everyone dies tommorow
Those shows have a lot that appeal to female sentiments and it's clearly the intent of the author. It's a hybrid audiance.
The Witcher 3, hugely successful, comes from Poland then all the stuff that comes from Japan, why outside of exceptionally small indie teams is the idea of making things aimed exclusively at males, 50% of the population, deemed wrong?
We live in a matriarchy bro wake up
Compounding the issue greatly is how women will not stop playing victim and pretending they're "under-represented" no matter how many waves of girl power slop we get, even when it starts corrupting existing media for men
That’s not true at all. Video games are purely made for men outside of slice of life stuff like Animal Crossing, but even that’s more family friendly than anything else.
True
b-but they're oppressed chuddie!!
Hazbin isn't out yet, but Angel Dust is going to steal screentime away from Charlie, I guarantee it.
Loona is not a main character in helluva. She could be replaced with a house plant in the office at this point, and it wouldn't make a single bit of difference.
The hound is expendable and the first to go when Vivzie's budget is running low.
>Loona is not a main character in helluva. She could be replaced with a house plant in the office at this point, and it wouldn't make a single bit of difference.
For the thousands of furries and hmofagays that are watching the trainwreck of HB ONLY for her, sure it does, Viv might be far from being the smartest but she's not that stupid either to not recognize that
I don't know why you'd keep giving her views for sparse crumbs of Loona. It only continues to validate Viv and she'll never ever improve.
It had been proven time time and time again that people will happily watch complete garbage if said garbage has bits and pieces of what they like and I can't think of another explicitly sexual furry.
Might as well just avoid Viv's channel then.
Watch compilations of any Loona-only scenes on someone else's channel.
You need to know the story to appreciate the porn more
>and if you wanna frick em', you can!
No fricking way they actually referenced this fan art.
Kek no anon, I'm almost certain the fan art is inspired by the show
I remember seeing that comic like 4 months ago. That episode with Mammon only came out 3 weeks ago.
Really? If so that's amazing.we should ask wario anon to confirm
When I have my career going I'm going to invest into sex robots. The reality that could be. The truth I will make manifest.
All the Helluva characters are hella effeminate
>make busty female characters in scanty clothing
>OH HEY WHO IS THIS AUDIENCE FOR?!?!
You are a dumbass if you think that young boys are not interested in good looking female characters. There's a reason that Kim Possible and Sailor Moon ended up with such a large male audience, and it wasn't because there was some convenient male character to take the role of protagonist.
>make busty female characters in scanty clothing
Where?
>Men make for shit protagonists because they can't be emotional without looking like pussies.
>When you're making a cartoon,
>you need a character that can cry and look pathetic without being off-putting
>not gonna fly in the West
Anon I think you don't like western Cinemaphilemics and cartoons. Or anything where someone isn't crying.
I also think you're severely overrating how good women and girls look when they're crying.
>Where?
Straight from the OP.
>busty
lol, lmao
Every image I'm finding of her she's as flat as a board, see image related
You could call her trans
Are you sure you're not just being blinded by all that furry porn you're eating?
It's okay for good-looking women to have major roles, just put in a competent male character to compensate. Boys get a character they relate to, and girls get a cute male to look at. Kill two birds with one stone.
There are no role models for boys anymore.
>Female leads in cartoons
>NOOOO BOYS ITS OVERRRR
Fragile masculinity
I mean I can still identify with the female characters despite being a man. I even find them more interesting, Helluva was egregious since I got hooked because of Octavia being interesting (not horny for that) and I thought she would be a reoccurring characters to balance out the overwhelmingly "male" Blitzo by having legitimate reasons to hate him and no mental olympics on display to make him look better.
Boys will watch shows watch shows with girl leads if the girl leads are hot; they can just get their "male role models" from superhero films and video games and shit. Or misogynistic TikToks and Twitch streamers, I guess.
Totally Spies has been going for two decades now. Its audience is absolutely NOT only girls.
>Or misogynistic TikToks and Twitch streamers, I guess
good point, these teach more valuable lessons than any cartoon
Men make for shit protagonists because they can't be emotional without looking like pussies. They only work for a hardened badass characters like John Wick, or villains. When you're making a cartoon, you need a character that can cry and look pathetic without being off-putting, so your options are either a teenage boy (not gonna fly in the West, we hate kid protagonists) or a girl. So the choice is kinda obvious.
>for a character to succeed they need to regularly cry
You sure you aren't confusing cartoons for the kids you groom on discord?
They don't need to cry all the time, they need an option to do so. A young boy can get sad and emotional. A girl can get sad and emotional. But if a guy gets sad and emotional, he's gonna be turned into a meme online, and your story will fall flat on its face. Men can be smartasses, badasses, or dumbasses, but not wimps (unless it's a comedy).
I strongly disagree. This is a 21st century standard. A lot of films depict men crying and mean it with full sincerity. The dwarves in Disney's Snow White, George Bailey in It's a wonderful life, the boys in Stand by me.
This idea that men are broadly ridiculed for crying seems to have been fabricated recently.
If you only look critically acclaimed movie lists and not at actual discourse surrounding real people, you're gonna have a skewed perspective.
That's not a rebuttal. To make a genuine rebuttal, you'd have to show how comparing and contrasting examples of past culture to modern culture is skewing my perspective.
Your perspective is skewed because it's based on a measurement that doesn't actually reflect the breadth of society at all. It's like saying that racism doesn't exist because there's a lot of successful and critically acclaimed movies with black people in them.
That's not an accurate comparison. Honestly, I think your cynicism is skewing your perception. You can't imagine that things were different. In your mind, this is how it's always been and always will be.
Is your perspective just based on thinking about what movies you most associate with particular eras and then basing your perception of the world on those movies?
No.
So don't try to claim that a longtime issue only started a few years ago just because your favorite classic movies don't feature it.
But this isn't about real people, it's about characters in modern media. There's a difference. It's fine for men on screen to cry, and that's the point.
>because they can't be emotional without looking like pussies.
Sounds like a personal hangup to me.
Is this why white guys always b***h and moan about shounen protagonists crying when one of their friends/family members is gravely injured/killed?
Femboy protag when?
is this homie serious
every boy on the internet identifies with officer K from Bladerunner
The pendulum swung too far in the other direction and this does show that the people complaining about a lack of female representation didn't want equality they just wanted more stuff made specifically with their interests in mind.
There's less male protagonists in cartoons than there were before. But, overall, guys are being really under-represented in specific areas. There's way less father/son relationships than father/daughter relationships. There's less queer representation for guys. Guys aren't being written as emotionally supportive anymore. Honestly, if you're a male voice actor, practice your villain voice because that's the easiest role for you to land right now. Just expect to get killed off at some point. Because redemption arcs are for female characters.
It would be a pendulum if it swung back. Once something is declared for women it doesn't go back to being for men, ever. Just look at fashion.
>Men's fashion isn't a thing
Men's fashion is unironically dead.
No you're just old
Men's fashion is unironically dead, broccoli head. The only thing that doesn't get you made fun of these days is workwear.
Ok grandpa go back to your Thundercats threads
discuss that here i guess
As if this is a boy problem and not a problem for fujoshis
I just like stuff with cute female leads doing funny cute things or being badasses. Bonus points if its yuri.
the cute girl media to becoming a homosexual pipeline is real
Yes yes just like slaughtering NPCs in GTA will make you a mass murderer and listening to heavy metal will make you worship the devil. lol. Okay evangelical boomer.
>Cinemaphile makes fun of minorities for not having a character to project themselves into
also Cinemaphile
>complains about how they don't have a character to project themselves into
Cinemaphile isn't a hivemind
Given that girls are constantly given characters to project themselves into, why shouldn't boys receive the same treatment? Are by any chance their lives not valuable enough?
Take into account that little kids need role models. This includes boys. An adult man can perfectly enjoy a manga about cute girls doing cute things (they're often published in magazines aimed at men) or watch a movie with an action girl because they like the actress, but kids need to self-insert. And even men will probably miss the more masculine media of years ago, like the Stallone movies. It's something that just isn't being made anymore and could perfectly exist along with other things.
>but kids need to self-insert
Only if they lack enough empathy. And Cinemaphile hyperfixates on girl's shows but there are still tons of cartoons that have male MCs
Yeah, why dont boys just idolize Stephen Universe?
>Take into account that little kids need role models
What a sad life you must have to take a role model out of a fictional character
Alexander's had a fictional role model. His name was Achilles.
Go on, tell us how you who do not have fictional role models, are greater than he.
Goku motivated a bunch of kids to start working out and learning martial arts.
The incestuous industry drums out anyone with conservative views.
Nothing wrong with a teen boy protag. Even an older teen. Invincible is doing fine
LOONA!
The industry is trying (for some reason) to turn straight, masculine guys away from escapist media like sci-fi shows and cartoons so they are appealing to women, gays, and troonys.
well they can eat shit, there's nothing I like more than drawing a lesbian getting fricked but huge wiener.
Boys watch fewer cartoons and play more video games
Boys that watch cartoons are fine with comedy and drama, if they want action they'll go to games or anime
Porn bait.
Just like with cartoons in general, you just have to watch hungarian ones made by females:
-rabbit with the checkered ears
-frakk
-vízipók
-kukori & kotkoda
Or short films like:
Make your own
Invincible is the fotw and has a male mc
Cute girls sell
There are cartoons made by men for boys/men but they do not take off as much.
Look back when cartoons were "for boys" they were in a unique position where boys were just the best way to make money. Girls grew out of cartoons faster and thus were less valuable. I don't know why, they prefered whatever they were doing instead of watching cartoons. It's not that they didn't make girl cartoons its that they didn't take off nearly as much and the one's that did had higher boy appeal like Jem and Holograms.
I don't know the economic reason reason but now it's girl stuff that takes off. Boys are doing something else besides watching cartoons. Probably gaming.
>but they do not take off as much.
The biggest cartoon on CN ever in terms of money made was an action cartoon about a 10 year old boy.
No, cartoons for boys don't take off anymore because cartoons in general don't take off anymore, because they killed their industry by not even trying to compete in any market outside of the autistic man/womanchild market and the baby market.
How do cartoons make money now asays? Is it mostly merch or ads/streaming company?
Merch. Legacy media companies funding you. Government grants.
Indie YouTube animation makes very little
>Government grants.
Explain further.
Yes. Boys exist to work to support women, they shouldn't be sitting around watching cartoons, they should be looking for wives so they can serve their every whim.
Read the rational male by rollo tomassi
A rational male would just obediently serve women as he's supposed to.
ATLA and Wakfu have been the cartoons I've enjoyed the most in the last 20ish years and they both have boy MCs
Two imitation anime
I wanna frick loona
Same.
Thank god for porn and onaholes
There's Caspian in Pantheon if that's what you're into
Real men watch (pop) history animations on YouTube. There is nothing more manly then watching animated squares slam into each other till the sound of glass is heard.
>I know this is the wrong website to be complaining about female protagonists
lol what are you copying this from your reddit thread or something?
It's likelier for boys to watch a show about a girl than girls to watch a show about a boy, that's just a fact.
Hey, look everyone! It’s the guy who greenlit The Marvels, everybody point at xim and laugh.
Nobody can tell me that Loona wasn’t designed for boys to jerk off to.
>just isn't the same as in the past anymore
How far in the past does this go? I remember a fair amount of MCs being everymen at best and sorta losers at worst in the aughts
Some cartoons are for boys but it's just that most of the time cartoons with male MCs just isn't the same as in the past anymore. They're usually either loud and obnoxious or weak and lame nowadays and boys rarely look up to them and thus the female side character shines more.
Cartoons are for troons
The absolute state of Usanian cartoons.
This, the last time I enjoyed an USAnian animation was avatar, and its the most anime like stuff.
Watch as this thread, a thread blatantly made just for political seething and playing armchair psychiatrist hit 300+ replies while threads that want to talk about animated shows/media die at 20
Watch as that happens and tell with a straight face that Cinemaphile is a good board
They will also insist they are better than reddit and become hostile. Which does talk about cartoons.
Think of it more as a containment thread for people who don't actually come here to talk about Cinemaphile stuff so other threads aren't plagued by the same bs
That said, sometimes good stuff comes of it. An anon compiled like 30+ recent shows with a male protag in order to BTFO the OP and a few of those seem worth looking into
I know the troon boogieman keeps getting thrown around but it's true. Media is now made for women or people who think they are women. Males are vilified and aren't allowed to be the center of attention anymore.
are there boys who watch western cartoon shit when anime has a bunch of action shows? unironically only gays and trannies watch western shit.
Boys hate feminists but they like girls just fine. Give us cool/cute/relatable/awesome female leads and I won't complain
I just want writers and critics to stop shitting on male leads, not letting men be men is plain shitty
Try A Fox In Space, OP
And Monkey Wrench
