Wanted to get the rec out first: It's a full-cast space action flick edited, composed, and written by one madman. It's insane. Utterly beyond anything that's come out so far. It's also a complete unknown for reasons I will rant about if the thread goes long enough.

is it new age hippie sci-fi, ultra verbose sci-fi, sword and star (like vance), or what?
I don't trust that genre anymore, too much gay shit is coming out

          ABSOLFRICKINGLOUTELY NOT
It's hard scifi about a race of alien bugs who are initiating first contact with a race of suspicious... frick, there's no way to describe them. It's GOOD anon- Not just technically: The characters and arcs and shit are completely free of all the BS that's infested the genre.
The only downside is... we're not going to get a season 2. The guy- the bloody luminary who made it's lost faith in humanity.
          Many such cases.

he's lying to you. theres an ongoing gay romance forced into the narrative about 6 hours in and it gets explicit, of course one of them is a magical Black stand in that can do no wrong. save yourself the time and just listen to the heinlein audiobooks

    >Frontier gentleman
    https://archive.org/details/FrontierGentleman-All41Episodes
The GOAT. Batshit insane ex-soldier goes to the batshit insane old west as a reporter. Covers everything from genuinely moving romance to horror.
    >Bleak Expectations
    https://archive.org/details/BleakExpectationsS02E02AReKipperedLifeSmashedSomeMore
Absurdism parodying Dickens. Lots of wordplay, very well done. Won't spoil

    >Welcome to our Village, please invade carefully
    https://archive.org/details/WelcomeToOurVillagePleaseInvadeCarefullyS00E01
Aliens invade a small English countryside as preparation to invade earth and the locals are fine with it. The only thing opposing them is a chronic leftist who only came back to borrow money from her parents. Genuinely funny, with the bonus of being taboo humor.
    >Our Miss Brooks
    https://archive.org/details/OurMissBrooks/Omb1948-04-09Audition1shirleyBooth.mp3
Perpetually broke and thirsty teacher Connie Brooks pursues clueless man. Notable for being one of the most popular things ever made by Americans, despite being completely unknown today.

Most of these aren't modern podcasts because modern podcasting is more or less shit. Not just pozzed, the people who pozzed it leveraged their positions to turn podcasting into well...
    >serial killer/real crime bullshit for women
This covered it pretty well. It's all very insular and difficult to break into unless you're being cheap and going for the "literally me" crowd.

It just depends what you're into. I really like the content from BBC Radio 4 in the UK.

Don't bother with wrestling podcasts, they are all trash.

The history of Rome is so over rated, it just lacks a lvl of detail about ‘why’ which is the only reason to read history,
