Are the rebuilds worth watching?
Should I wait a while between watching EoE and them so that they don't feel repetitive, or are they mostly new material?

I like how all the drivers are spiritually female.
Shinji sucks as a man
It’s a direct sequel to EoE and concludes the entire series.
If you want to see Annos story to the end, it’s required.
which one of them? because most of them seem to be basically remakes
They're not. Starting partway through the second one it's a whole cloth new scenario.
All of them.
They are a sequel series. Since You appear clueless, I won't be a gay and spoil shit. I'm sure others will.
Just knock yourself out and watch them, whether you like them or not, you won't know until you do.
The release of the final part was glorious, so many meltdowns were had on Cinemaphile over some of the choices made.
>It’s a direct sequel to EoE
no it isn't
references to EoE =//= a sequel
le true ending gays can get fricked
It is a sequel if you pay attention. The moon/ocean is already red at the start of rebuilds from 3rd impact. The implication being that gendo has been through multiple cycles of instrumentality
You are moronic.
I now remember that people died waiting for such a mediocre ending
I remember bingewatching the entire series during COVID, and getting extremely hyped to see the final rebuild movie after watching the trailer.
Then... I just never bothered watching it for some reason? IDK why I just lost interest in EVA all together and never bothered.
working as intended
>Are the rebuilds worth watching?
I've got to tell ya, as someone that likes the original... No. Rebuild is repackaged nonsense. It doesn't change the fact we got a great original anime and movie.
>Are the rebuilds worth watching?
No. CGI shitfests with pointless new characters.
NGE doesn't make any sense. If you remove Asuka and Misato then nobody would watch that crap.
They're dogshit, but I guess they're worth a watch if you're an Eva fan. It'll make you respect the original series that much more.
They're pretty awful.
EoE works because it's essentially two bloated episodes stuck together at the end of 24 episodes of build up. The Rebuilds completely fail because they're 26 episodes roughly beaten into the shape of 4 films. All of Eva's strong characterization is completely absent from the compressed runtime, and characters themselves just randomly change from what they were in the originals with no on screen justification because of it.
I wonder if there will ever be a day when seeing Mari won't fill me with rage. It's been years, so I keep thinking I must be over it. I'm not even a person that experiences anger with any regularity, and yet my hair stands on end the moment she comes into view.
Same. All the other new characters are pretty terrible too. It's like they were specifically designed to annoy the audience.
>It's like they were specifically designed to annoy the audience.
Huh, weird right?
>the only girl who likes giant robots in a giant robot show written to be an introspective story by a guy who makes giant robot shows for a living
>coincidentally they get married
crazy shit yo
wasn't she confirmed to be a self insert of his wife?
His wife denied it, but it seems pretty obvious that she is.
He had some good ideas, but he wasted the third movie into being a prologue for the fourth, and the 3d makes the new movies feel completely soulless.
The writing's pretty vapid and the action direction is such a step down that it's honestly hard to believe that this project and Shin Godzilla were made by the same guy in roughly the same time period.
End of Evangelion is the greatest film of all time and the rebuilds are completely forgettable.
Eternal reminder of the ideal Neon Genesis Evangelion watch order:
- NGE, all episodes
- End of Evangelion
- look up stuff online to whatever degree you're interested in doing so
- wait a while, 3 - 12 months depending on your patience and memory for visual art
- Repeat NGE and End of Evangelion
- take a week break
- watch Rebuilds
Rebuilds are largely trash, as has been pointed out a lot above. They do have some value and clever aspects, but these will be lost on you unless you've already spent a fair amount of time soaking in the original show, reading interviews, coming to understand Anno and his career, and so forth. If you're going to subject yourself to them, you might as well extract what value there is while you're at it.
>these artistic endeavors are trash
>so make sure you study up so you can really soak up the garbage juice
>really let yourself be taken in for hours and hours so this actual sewage entering your mind is well understood
>doing it any other way would just be silly, foolish even
Weebs are so fricking moronic it is unreal.
The show and original film are 10/10 on their own. Most of the guide is about getting the most out of those. The last part is because the Rebuilds themselves are mostly bad, but not entirely. But speeding through them right after watching the original show is going to be a more negative experience. If you're only going to bother to sit through them once, you might as well make it worth your while. And fortunately, the Rebuilds mostly benefit from greater familiarity with the original stuff, which is always worth sinking time into.
I'm the OP
Thanks
I should have maybe explained why, but the rebuilds are a strange creation. They're simultaneously a remake of the original series, a sequel to it, and metacommentary on the series as it exists in popular culture, as it relates to Anno and his life, and as it relates to the fan community and their response to the original show -- and yet not 100% any of those things individually. That's why I don't think it's recommended to just watch them as "the next thing in line" like one would with a usual franchise. Lilith have mercy on those that watched the rebuilds only; thinking that they were "the new and improved remake of the original".
I'm not really sure of anything else in TV/film that does something so similarly layered. Even Twin Peaks: The Return doesn't have quite as many layers at work.
CHADgon Ball Z >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Cringelion creepy pedo shit for BPD trannies
Just be a wagie bro itll work out
t. talented artist who has had a rich social life since his college years because of his talents that everyone admired
for me eva is only the original series
3&4 suck, 1&2 are okay remakes of stuff you've seen already.
I did like 3's opening retrieving unit 1 from orbit though, dumb but it looked cool.
Near Third Impact is better than Third Impact.
1 is pretty much identical to the first 6 eps
2 is close to the original but the last act is the best thing Anno ever did
3 is extremely polarizing and brand new content but good Kaworu development
4 ties series and rebuilds together and gives a decent send off to all.
As long as you understand it's not a remake or retelling, the rebuilds are a great addition to the canon.
>people unaware that Rebuild 1 starts right where EoE leaves off
It’s a cycle. It’s why Shinji sees Rei’s ghost at the beginning of episode 1 of the show
