It is one of the few European countries with great promise fool. Every time I visit it is nicer than the last. Few other places can say they are improving. Hungary is also one of the few countries where there is little to no population crisis or pension crisis. The country is the only in the civilized world that is going to be better when older generations die, than the inverse.

don't know about malta (and it's not even fricking italian territory, bruh), but corruption is pretty widespread throughout the country from north to south. probably more in the south for historical reasons, but that's being nitpicky. the government is in rome (central italy) and the (little) real money is in nothern italy.
anyway, italy in general is kino as frick, but that's what the country has become internationally, either a parody or a postcard. quite a tragedy indeed

              Anonymous

              >it's not even fricking italian territory, bruh
Neither are southern Switzerland, San Marino and the Vatican but they are all culturally Italian.

Italy is a modern artificial assemblage of city-states which is why it has so many weird liminal buffer zones compared to other countries.

                Anonymous

malta was never an italian territory. it was under british rule for long time, and had ties with italy due to proximity, but was never part of it, so it's completely irrelevant to the point you were making
all the others you mentioned too, they aren't italian territory, so when talking about italy's situation they are as relevant as madagascar.
                >Italy is a modern artificial assemblage of city-states
that can be said of many european countries. italy's "fault" at best might be that it was unified later than most

As for what is wrong with Hungary - they used to be important part of empire and because of that thought they will be equally important alone as a nation state - they just didnt consider other nationalities (Slovaks, Croats, Romanians, Serbs) may want to leave Hungary like it left Austria.

Hungarians have come into central Europe, fricked a bunch of shit up, and we've been reaping that karma for the past 500 or so years, with the turk invasion, being a vassal state to the Austrians, then being a vassal state to the USSR, repeatedly revolting and fighting for independence and then getting massacred in the streets
we're generally disillusioned with the world and tired of it all
tons of people are left mentally ill, alcoholic or otherwise destitute
some of our art, architecture and other achievements are held back by our shit history and a lack of a national budget or even interest in those kinds of things (granted, we do have a few artistic and scientific gems here and there, we can be inventive and creative)
Our leaders are fat clowns whose only political interest is remaining in power for as long as possible or just the most base, moronic idpol campaigning
      It's generally not looking good
But we've lasted this long, we're a tough people, able to weather a lot of shit and finding the human soul of it all underneath the rubble
Gotta keep your head down and push through it

no one in any kind of position of power in Hungary wants to get back the lands lost in Trianon, you're literally fighting a straw man constructed by Romanian and Slovakian ultra nationalists.
that doesn't change the fact that the territories now owned by Slovakia, Serbia, Romania and Austria were rightfully ours ever since our ancestors set hoof and foot in the Carpathian Basin over 1100 years ago, and were taken away from us in a manner that went directly against the directives of Wilson's Fourteen Points.

I own an old musical from there called “Hyppolit the Butler.” It is cute. The drunken, lower class Mr Schneider becomes rich suddenly so his wife hires a butler named Hyppolit to make him posh and fancy but he hates the guy until the guy recommends a dancing hall girl his first employer saw on and off and from there it spirals downwards as he has to keep his wife unaware. A subplot is that a rich technical advisor is trying to romance his daughter but also the guy doesn’t want Mr S to know about his high paying job for some reason but Hyppolit recognizes the guy because he used to always be around his first employer. All around a cute movie.
