It was a bout a professional saxophone player that got struck by lightning and night vision, telepathy, and removed his need to sleep. If he had his eyes set on publishing a few issues, he would probably have gone the IndieGoGo route. His initial plan was to use a crowdfunding site and he decided to bite the bullet and invest in building his own infrastructure.

1. He's said that the book is already done. Best case, if he's fudging the success, he can use that to say that massive volume is why he can't ship to everyone on time. This presents a problem for his youtube friends who will review it, since people will expect them to be among the first to receive it. If it doesn't exist at all, it will be painfully apparent by September.
2. He set a stretch goal to provide 2 more books before the end of the year. With the stretch goal being met, now he's on the clock to deliver. At best he has until early next year before people get suspicious and lose faith in him.
If this is a scam, it's set to blow up in his face within 6 months. This isn't like the typical crowdfunding timeline where people can get strung along indefinitely.

Honestly there's not a lot of information to go off of, Eric is capitalizing on being able to draw from his youtube audience, so he's keeping a tight lid on the details. The excitement comes from him talking about doing this for years, so the moment has finally come. He has plans for an entire universe, which I think is some of the hype. It's not just about one limited series.
The synopsis is that the main character has retired from hero work and lives a quiet life, but his sister calls him in to investigate the disappearance of one of her interns. In the course of the investigation, he crosses paths with an old acquaintance who now runs a gang, and comes in conflict with other people with superpowers. Other than that, he's kept details intentionally close to the vest.
The hype comes from the preorder sales hitting 20x the expected volume.

His films were always made in the editing. Compare New Hope and Empire with the Prequels, just the dialogue. There's fan edits where they cut about half the dialogue and make the film so much better, trim entire conversations to three lines and a knowing look and you get it.
They should have just cut the other half too and called it a day.
There's a decent movie in there somewhere. Not a good movie, but a watchable one.
IMO the problem with the prequels is that their existence shows how condensed the timeline is and condensing the timeline removes a lot of the mythical elements of the original trilogy.

You make a very good point. KOTOR honestly fits better as a prequel narrative, a time in the ancient past.
The thing I hated about them was that, somehow, everyone knew each other loooooong before the events of the OT. The big problem with Star Wars is that everyone has to be special, no one can just be some rando who happens to be in the right place at the right time. Say what you will about The Last Jedi, but it took a hammer to that idea, having Rey just be the child of a pair of random alcoholics. That's great! She's not connected to any lineage! Then they had to course-correct so hard, and fricked up so hard, which is how we get Palpatine returning somehow... again.
The problem with them trying to course correct in The Last Jedi is that they'd already set Rey up as being too hyper competent and impossibly good at being a Jedi for it her to be a random nobody
Which is why it really should've been Finn as the protagonist. Except then they'd have probably said he was Lando's long lost son or something.
Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it was done well, it absolutely should've been, at the very least, Finn and Rey as a double-act. He was built up as a Jedi Stormtrooper in the first film and that could've been so cool, some kid who's been indoctrinated into hating the thing he's not only surrounded by, but now is. That's everything they wanted to do with Kylo Ren, but better. And then they cut down his role so much, I don't even remember him doing much ion the third movie, past being a background character.
I can't fault Boyega for hating the movies because they did him so dirty that his character could've been written out entirely and nothing would've really changed.
