Art and Story Details From Unmade GI JOE Animated Series Revealed

>An internal pitch that was made to Hasbro back in the mid 2010’s. With the brand having direction issues, the current team at Night Shining (who use to work for the official G.I.Joe licensee) made this pitch. It brought together 1970’s Adventure Team G.I. Joe with the concept of the 1980’s ARAH. This concept was pitched as a mix of appeal to the Rescue Bots and Transformers Prime audience.

      Honestly, this premise could work.

Not sure about guest characters though.

Why don’t kids today like having villains toys or imagine having villains?

So they didn't even have names for the characters?

Those were the names of the toys. This series asks what if Man of Arctic would later become OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHH

This reeks of Patton Oswald’s Star Wars Prequels joke.
“Do you like ice cream? Well here’s some rock salt. Eventually it becomes ice cream”
“Do you like Angelina Jolie? Well here’s Jon Voight’s ballsack.”

    I like the names:

Realistically how do you even make GI Joe popular again? Renegades was good but didn't last that long.

Energon Universe is doing it right now.

You hard lean into Metal Gear of Duty. Hasbro keeps thinking they need to make it less military when military shit is actually popular.

Joe is such an untapped well of content. How is it 2024 and we have never had a Joe FPS of any kind? No big CGI Joe movie for boys? No MCU style Joe universe in live action? No streaming cartoon? Who the hell is asleep at the wheel with this IP? Transformers is doing all this.

They tried to do a lot of this but it flopped. Snake Eyes tried to set up a new GI Joe universe but flopped big time, even Retaliation with the Rock underperformed years before. The new Transformers movie teased a GI Joe crossover but that movie is the lowest grossing Transformers movie so who knows if plans will change. Maybe kids/audiences don’t care about this IP anymore.

Those designs just don’t work for the type of show they were aiming for.

Maybe they wanted the art to be compatible with GI Joe renegades.

Looks a smidge too kiddie. And the team's codenames suck. But, I think the core concept is cool. Nice to see the classic Adventure Team get a little love.

It'd need some work though. I'm not feeling the guest star angle and some of the stuff just seems like a baby show retooling of Renegades.
