Oda’s a Jap, so I doubt he knows the difference between a Mexican and a Brazillian. He just saw a skinny Hispanic that vaguely looks like his character and said “cast him”

At $18 million per episode it might be money laundering so it doesn't matter if it bombs. Im not sure I believe netflix hasn't figured out by now that live action adaptations of anime are DOA.
If it bombs it becomes a massive tax write off.
If it succeeds they make all their money back and then some.
Hollywood really can’t lose on bad shows. It’s small win or big win.
his opinions are probably taken into account, but one piece must have a whole department that specializes in dealing with anime adaptations, movies, spin-offs and now live action
oda can't even put 2 chapter in a row anymore
I mean this will be the do or die for live action anime adaptations. This project is run by fans of the series and everything goes through the creator himself. If this can’t be good, it’ll drive the point home that adapting anime to live action is actually impossible.
There is an aesthetic to anime. It's rooted in a type of fantasy disconnected from reality in a way that's hard to bridge. A silliness and sense of beauty that doesn't translate well. Even stuff that's purely dramatic doesn't work well.
There's more to culture and language than just superficial differences. A lot of underlying sociocultural and linguistic norms are baked into Japanese comics/anime and, though most can't articulate it, people tend to be bothered by Hollywood adaptations because they are missing these norms by their inherent nature. You can still find the occasional decent Japanese drama/live action film adaptation; the problems with those tend to come more down to stuff like being vehicles production committees use to shill new, shitty idol groups.
I think you're reading too much into it. The beef I have with live action anime adaptations is the same I have for any live-action remake, or a reboot etc.
>the perfect version of it already exists
Take evangelion. It's beautiful, the themes are deep, it's just a good show. Now you're Netflix and you want to do a live action remake, why? How are you going to expand on it in any way? If you add more to the series, fans will get butthurt because you aren't sticking to the source material. If you don't add anything to it, you'll be branded as a soulless cash grab. You're damned if you do, damned if you dont.
Not an original take but the lack of creativity in Hollywood these days is insane. Companies will literally shell out a billion dollars for something (rings of power) but won't give a few mil to something new or original.
Because they actually adapt the characters to a live action format. Death Note is a game of smarts but the movie was shitty teen romance with some edgyness. Cowboy bebop is a noir anime but the show is campy. .
1. Comic book fans are more forgiving than anime fans. If you’re a purist, then most comic book adaptions are awful. All the Batman movies don’t come close to touching the crazy weirdness that exists in the comics. Luckily Hollywood often has 60 years of lore to pick and choose from so no matter how soulless they make an adaption, there will be a zoomer who defends it as being comic accurate. Manga/anime as we know it now is a relatively more recent thing with linear storylines so it’s a lot more obvious how off the mark live action adaptions are compared to the source material.
2. Then there’s the whole ADAPTION aspect of live action adaptions. The most popular manga/anime that gets eyed for live action adaptions are inherently unadaptable because they take full advantage of the medium they’re in. If you’re trying to do a live action adaption you have two choices: do a 1:1 live action recreation which is pointless because the audience is paying to watch something done worse. The second option is to do a traditional adaption which is pointless for something like DBZ because so much of the appeal of the property gets lost in translation to live action.
Because comics are made by westerns so naturally it's easier to convert into a movie something which was tailored to your culture made by your own people rather than a foreign story. >anime adaptations are always awful
*anime adapations made by westerns
There's plenty of decent to good jap made adaptations.

Ehhhh not necessarily. I think what's important is scope and understanding what kind of story is being told.
You could turn a supernatural/gamburu/high school/sol show into live action and Japan manages it now and again. Get some good showrunners, none of the creative freedom they usually have to wildly change things and just adapt the work and it could work. And on directors, how about someone who's directed anything other than a TV ad, music video or the odd episode of Byker fricking Grove. Hire some people with talent.
Something like Hikaru no Go spread over 3-4 modern seasons for example. See pretty hard to frick that up, it's a spirit and a fricking board game you nonces.
The real question is how the West managed to let something like Death Note which was pretty close to being ideal for adaptation go to waste. I guess it was the Shinigami, too easy for them to hit the crackpipe once they saw it and go all Nick Simmons.
Kenshin anime movies are pretty good, I never hear people talk about them I guess because they’re Japanese but they feel like the anime just in live action be none of the other attempts have pulled it off.

Your problem is that you're conflating "mainstream" on a level to that of some Marvel capeshit. Anime isn't quite on that level, but compared to 10-20 years ago, seeing just a couple of cars a day with some One Piece, DBZ, or Eva sticker is way more mainstream than it's been. The anime and manga are worldwide best selling comics. I think it is the number one sold comic of all time. You have a ton of loyal fans that want to see the show be good. Expectations are high and this guy is brazilian. I don't even care if Oda said in an SBS that Luffy would be from Brazil when he is drawn like a japanese or white kid. This actor doesn't look like Luffy. Then you couple that with netflix known for promoting the worst degenerate shit possible. Then you quadruple that with the fear from Cowboy Bebop live action where not a single character retained their personality from the anime. OR the Castlevania anime where they changed the source material and did a 180 on the lore to shove in anti Christianity rhetoric just because the showrunner hated Christians.
I just want stupid people to realise that creating live action versions of animated series is a terrible idea because 99% of the time the live action version is absolutely worse than the original since it doesn't realize it lacks the charm the animation had.
Cinemaphile weebs lose everything if this show is successful. This entire website and probably other sections of the internet were built on the idea that anime is an alternative. They like to pretend anime is this cool niche hobby and if it breaks anymore into the mainstream or if they go outside and see people wearing evangelion hoodies these losers are going to rope themselves.
Anime going mainstream is the only chance Cinemaphile incels have for anime girlfriends becoming real with VR or robots, or whatever.
This is a good thing for Cinemaphile bros, even if they don't see it yet.
Because the lead role on even a streaming show like this is a six-figure paycheck, a lifechanging amount of money for 99% of starving actors, with the potential for a huge payday if it becomes a hit
Netflix is spending $100million+ on this show. They have enough cash to throw $100k at a couple of actors. Do you think the Game of Thrones actors were getting $30k a season even when the show first started? lmao
>Netflix is spending $100million+ on this show. They have enough cash to throw $100k at a couple of actors. Do you think the Game of Thrones actors were getting $30k a season even when the show first started? lmao
HBO works on an entirely different scale than streaming. Residuals are totally different, it's why actors are on strike
>Turn down biggest role ever offered to you >it's a phenomenal success >guy who took the role is locked in for 6 seasons upon renewal >his fame from the success has him starring in Marvel phase 4 >he's dating Xochtil Gomez >your manager drops you for being stubborn >you OD on blacks tar heroin before even finding out what the One Piece is

Haiti, French Guiana and Argentina beg to differ. French and Italian are Latin languages.
there's a notable distinction because brazilians have more worldwide admixtures, there's even a japanese-brazilian community over there and frankly, the Luffy role should have gone to someone like this. Or at least a more sportive person, the netflix Luffy looks very weak.
In fact all the straw hats should look and move way more sportive, I would cast sport pros and then coach them in acting and not the other way around

I've seen the opposite more often. The ones shilling this always have the exact same copes prepared that immediately fall apart at the slightest scrutiny and it's very obvious they haven't actually read the manga or followed the discussions before they were told to shill the live action. Giving such a huge emphasis on the SBS (the question corner, because I know I have to explain this to you) answer about the ethnicities and using it for justifying the casting, while simultaneously not actually giving a shit beyond "who cares that Brazil and Mexico are two completely different countries? He's brown that's good enough" is the biggest tell. They don't actually care, it's just a talking point they've been told to parrot.
Chopper should’ve been Russian and Robin should’ve been a Latino. Chopper actually comes from a cold country ruled by a dick who doesn’t care about his people, and some of his power moves have Russian names (e.g. ‘metel’ which means blizzard) while Robin actually says stuff in Spanish and looks Hispanic.
Sanji is German technically
Luffys father is Cuban
Usopp is a whole cape colored
Robin is Russian but looks Southern Slavic in pre time skip because the animators made her tan.
Zoro doesn’t look Japanese
Brook is definitely Austrian
Franky is Canadian (Jim Carey)
Is that chick actually that ripped in the show? Always a nice suprise when some random actress has a toned as frick body for no reason, like in home sweet home
an unknown actor turning down this role would be like an aging incel turning down a 6/10 throwing herself at him because he’s holding out for a 10/10 virgin
Let me blow your mind, most real incels would do that. They are incels because they are too afraid of interacting with women (with men as well, but in a different way) so rejecting a 6/10 because they are waiting for their perfect woman to show up is a coping mechanism to justify not having to improve and put effort into maintaining a real relationship.
>meet 7/10 >holy shit I'm in love >2 dates, go to her house, she makes me dinner and we get intimate >"anon, you make me feel so comfortable" >discover I have porn induced ED >tells me its ok if I dont find her attractive, can still be friends
I'm a huge opponent of live action anime. I've been a naysayer since this was announced. I've lambasted the casting choices. But just days from the release I'm willing to admit it might be passable. The defining moment for me being the video in which the cast answers One Piece trivia questions, and the actress for Nami correctly answering questions that are pretty obscure and post timeskip-related.
Even if this is all just marketing, it's more effort than was given to cowboy bebop and doesn't shit on the fans..
That being said, I think the producers are the biggest threat to this series' success. But I'm going to give it a chance
I watched the first three episodes as a netflix adjacent corporate slave. You guys will be pleasantly surprised about this show if it holds up to 1-3 standards.
> Portraying the one of the biggest manga/anime characters of all time is a bad move.
Anon you are moronic. This is the best role he has and puts him on the map. Even if its a disaster his name is tied to the One Piece brand forever as the first live action portrayal. One piece is one of the biggest media franchises of all time.
This is a moronic post. That guy has been in multiple blockbuster style movies over the last few years and anyone on Cinemaphile who actually cares about television and film would know smiths name even if it's just to call him a mutt or whatever.
>big fan of One Piece, get the lead role in a long-awaited (?) live action adaptation >get to meet Oda himself and earn his approval >get to network with Mackenyu and Nami's actress
Seems like a good enough deal to me. It's not like he had a shot for a successful career to begin with, given his looks. He got the role because Luffy himself is a weird looking character.
Starring in a live action manga adaption for a streaming service seems like it's only second to starring in a live action remake of a Disney cartoon in terms of making sure your career ends right then and there.
imo the live action is going to be fine, not kino, just fine, good enough to have a season 2, and that too is going to be fine.
the main enemy of this whole franchise is still going to be netflix itself, its clear that it fears the one piece fanbase, and once they're on season 2/3 they're going to be more confident and that's where we would see 'creative' changes to the lore/characters
Rumor has it that during casting One Piece was still in it's Wano arc and when Oda asked a room full of hopeful auditoners whether they thought Carrot or Yamato would join the crew only one man responded by laughing hysterically.
That man was Inaki Godoy.

Why? If it works out as well as Wednesday or Stranger Thing, two shows starring nobody actors that have catapulted them to fame he’s got it made. None of the live-actions anime adaptations have been any good but if this one works for whatever reason, then he’s made it, especially an IP that can go on for multiple seasons. If not, then he got paid and is no worse off than he was before the series started.

agreed
Why is Shanks so racist?
we would know if he appeared more than once in a decade
Live action cartoons can work, just look at some of the better cape shit movies. I think the problem is Netflix and it's entire staff being zealous leftist cultists for some reason. Oda himself said that at times he felt hopeless regarding to the project, probably because people at Netflix were demanding everything to be as leftist as.posdible for reasons unknown and Oda wanted it to be close to the original.

Anon this is a fricking huge opportunity literally one of the most beloved mangas in the world that even defeated the Batman comics + he is literally receiving praise left and right for actually looking charismatic, even if the live action fails he will be in more stuff in the future
does the cast realize how much hentai exists of One Piece? what a show to be a part of when millions of morons with computers can now generate an infinite amount of AI porn of them...
>what in the le heckin frick?!?! why would this literally who agree to be the lead in a a series based on a long running franchise on a popular streaming service??? IT DOESN’T ADD UP!
You know actors want to get work right?
I'm feeling nervous. Cinemaphile told me this would fail. Is One Piece really the only anime series capable of worldwide mainstream success once put into a real storytelling medium?
at least netflix was wise enough to promote the show from the fan angle, I was really worried that the strike would hurt it but it's as if they were allowed, they are even copying the barbie tours, having the cast taking photos with different costumes and references.
i've seen only hype and glowing fans... which feels off, but maybe it's because i'm not willing to accept that they actually pulled it off due to how many times i've been kicked in the nuts by netflix. either way guess i'll find out in 2 days.
I don't know who this is, why is he dressed like that? Is he trying to be the curry equivalent of young Macario?
he's Mexican, though Oda always imagined Luffy as Brazilian so it's a strange pick
I doubt Oda ever gave it any real thought until the now infamous question from Michael Jackson's brother.
If anything I think he's basing things mainly on personality rather than looks.
Oda’s a Jap, so I doubt he knows the difference between a Mexican and a Brazillian. He just saw a skinny Hispanic that vaguely looks like his character and said “cast him”
Luffy being Brazilian is weird. I havent seen any Brazilian who looks like Luffy.
How do you feel about Koby being a FTM troony?
Appropriate casting (pre-timeskip)

Because the lead role on even a streaming show like this is a six-figure paycheck, a lifechanging amount of money for 99% of starving actors, with the potential for a huge payday if it becomes a hit
>the lead role on even a streaming show like this is a six-figure paycheck
Lol
Netflix is spending $100million+ on this show. They have enough cash to throw $100k at a couple of actors. Do you think the Game of Thrones actors were getting $30k a season even when the show first started? lmao
>Netflix is spending $100million+ on this show. They have enough cash to throw $100k at a couple of actors. Do you think the Game of Thrones actors were getting $30k a season even when the show first started? lmao
HBO works on an entirely different scale than streaming. Residuals are totally different, it's why actors are on strike
>They have enough cash to throw $100k at a couple of actors.
they have it but they're not gonna do it. probably got like 10-20K max
>Turn down biggest role ever offered to you
>it's a phenomenal success
>guy who took the role is locked in for 6 seasons upon renewal
>his fame from the success has him starring in Marvel phase 4
>he's dating Xochtil Gomez
>your manager drops you for being stubborn
>you OD on blacks tar heroin before even finding out what the One Piece is
yeah I think he made the right call
There has never been a single live action adaptation of a video game or anime that vaulted an actor to stardom.
the guy who plays Gintoki was previously unknown until he played Lupin III
Who?
have you seen the garbage he was doing before landing the role? even if the live action fails, he's already doing better
oh i remember seeing a trailer for this trash, i completely forgot about it lol
why did they made the one pice guy a mexican though?
>why did they made the one pice guy a mexican though?
Orders from the top
Brazilians aren't Mexicans, tho.
Brazil = speaks Portuguese, low IQ, big penis, good at soccer, bad at cleaning toilets, hot women.
Mexico = speaks Spanish, avergage IQ, small penis, bad at soccer, good at cleaning toilets, hot food.
>Brazilians aren't Mexicans, tho.
Only latinx people care about this distinction.
Since when are Brazilians Latin X? I thought they were African.
They're the reason latinx even exists.
Without them and their Portuguese, central and south Americans would be called some variation of hispanic.
>Without them and their Portuguese, central and south Americans would be called some variation of hispanic
Haiti, French Guiana and Argentina beg to differ. French and Italian are Latin languages.
African is IN Brazil, moron.
there's a notable distinction because brazilians have more worldwide admixtures, there's even a japanese-brazilian community over there and frankly, the Luffy role should have gone to someone like this. Or at least a more sportive person, the netflix Luffy looks very weak.
In fact all the straw hats should look and move way more sportive, I would cast sport pros and then coach them in acting and not the other way around
are these people considered white in brazil
And america.
Definitely not in America esl
>no other countries speak english besides america
american education everyone.
Luffy is a total stringbean, he's supposed to look weak.
I'm definitely up and coming in this unknown actor
this man is a legit gay and I've seen his cute penis in his leaked skype
>I would cast sport pros and then coach them in acting and not the other way around
now the big question is. Do they know anything about One Piece or they are huge fans of One Piece.
Why would that matter, just be good at pretending you are
>small penis
About the same as the average North American's. Look up the world record.
>small penis, bad at soccer, good at cleaning toilets, hot food.
>inb4 “Ussop is black!?!?!?” bait posts
>American is coolest character
>Canadian is gayest character
Yep. Fitting.
It was a really stupid question, to be fair. "If the characters from this story that's not set on earth eas set on earth, where would the characters be from?"
Like, how are you supposed to answer that in a way that isn't really arbitrary?
Wait what? What do you mean it's not set on earth?
Hate to break it to you, but you probably won't find the Grand Line, the East Blue or the Kingdom of Alabasta on any map of earth.
>wait what? not on earth?
this show has a really weird internet response. the ones intentionally shitting on it for no reason are caught with their pants down all the time because the series is so fricking long and detailed it's painfully obvious that they haven't read it. this anon is one of these morons.
Can you make it any more obvious this is your first time here? Holy shit get a real job.
go back.
They're not even shitting on anything. It was just a really dumb question.
They don't actually care, it's just a talking point they've been told to parrot.
france would be black and american would be a fat woman
Maybe in meme Cinemaphile world.
>Chopper actually comes from a cold country ruled by a dick who doesn’t care about his people
Sounds like Canada to me
>Robin actually says stuff in Spanish and looks Hispanic.
its a mix of french and spanish and no she doesnt look latinx in the og source aka the manga
Robin is Russian. Deal with it.
why is she still a virgin then
Ask Oda.
she's saving herself for me
sorry Jimbe she's the pirate King 2nd wife
I really want Hanwiener to meet Robin
apparently they are the same age too
>I'm 16, I will do anything
Sanji is German technically
Luffys father is Cuban
Usopp is a whole cape colored
Robin is Russian but looks Southern Slavic in pre time skip because the animators made her tan.
Zoro doesn’t look Japanese
Brook is definitely Austrian
Franky is Canadian (Jim Carey)
>Sanji is German technically
german dont cook, smoke and fricking girls
was der hier babbelt
How come the Wano arc which was basically the Japan arc not be about Zoro who is apparently Japanese?
>mexzombies
eh still wayyy better than Jim Jarmush's The Dead Don't Die
Is that chick actually that ripped in the show? Always a nice suprise when some random actress has a toned as frick body for no reason, like in home sweet home
its a man buddy
it's shoped but she's pretty athletic irl
Eh who gives a shit?
an unknown actor turning down this role would be like an aging incel turning down a 6/10 throwing herself at him because he’s holding out for a 10/10 virgin
I think you'd be surprised how many people here would do that.
I think you'd be surprised how no one here would do that
I think you'd be surprised to wake up with my dicks in your ass, gayget.
Let me blow your mind, most real incels would do that. They are incels because they are too afraid of interacting with women (with men as well, but in a different way) so rejecting a 6/10 because they are waiting for their perfect woman to show up is a coping mechanism to justify not having to improve and put effort into maintaining a real relationship.
>meet 7/10
>holy shit I'm in love
>2 dates, go to her house, she makes me dinner and we get intimate
>"anon, you make me feel so comfortable"
>discover I have porn induced ED
>tells me its ok if I dont find her attractive, can still be friends
I'm a huge opponent of live action anime. I've been a naysayer since this was announced. I've lambasted the casting choices. But just days from the release I'm willing to admit it might be passable. The defining moment for me being the video in which the cast answers One Piece trivia questions, and the actress for Nami correctly answering questions that are pretty obscure and post timeskip-related.
Even if this is all just marketing, it's more effort than was given to cowboy bebop and doesn't shit on the fans..
That being said, I think the producers are the biggest threat to this series' success. But I'm going to give it a chance
yeah but you do realize the actors have nothing to do with the writting or direction of the movie right?
Are you too stupid to realize those interviews are scripted?
Inaki saying that Rocks was stronger than Roger is a based take.
who cares what a moron who never heard of OP 2 years ago has to say
I watched the first three episodes as a netflix adjacent corporate slave. You guys will be pleasantly surprised about this show if it holds up to 1-3 standards.
My uncle works for netflix and I have seen the whole season.
Let's just say there's a Ed from Cowboy Bepop type cameo at the end of the season.
Smoker, Robin, or Crocodile.
They’re gonna show Chopper
Is that fricking Heihachi Mishima?
Yes, played by Shang Tsung himself
>using "pleasantly surprised" unironically
Dumbass, every actor starts out in some stupid shit.
Warwick Davis is a big actor now
for you
>Big actor
I have to say, he has grown on me over the years.
He's a GREAT actor! Anon, I think you're selling him a little short
It's a fricking classic, bad example
even japs cant make a decent one
what more with americans
It’s probably the only role fit for him
DOA career, may at least enjoy some money and fame for a while
>enjoy some money
Lol it's netflix
He's brazilian or some shit this is like a billion dollars down there.
I guarentee he doesn't live there
His speech impediment already torched his non-existent career.
Without looking it up name the lead opposite Ryan Reynolds in the Pikachu movie
I don't need to know his name but i recognized him in dungeons and dragons.
lol that was the same guy? I've seen both but I was drunk both times.
isn't that a wayans dude from the 90's comedies? damn
ryan reynolds and a wayans
that film must have been a big hit yo
Justice Smith. Easy to remember because it's so different and I had to check to see if he was one of Will's illegitimate kids.
He's pretty great in that and DND though
Justin Smith? But everyone just calls him the guy from Detective Pikachu
This is a moronic post. That guy has been in multiple blockbuster style movies over the last few years and anyone on Cinemaphile who actually cares about television and film would know smiths name even if it's just to call him a mutt or whatever.
Pokemon makes that much money and the game drastically cut features and even functionality with every release since B2W2.
>Even if its a disaster his name is tied to the One Piece brand forever
Everyone forgot Dragonball EVO, the careers of those involved have not suffered or advaced theough it. Nobody cared.
Winnie the Pooh is a bigger franchise than Disney? Where'd they make all that money, couldn't be from book sales alone.
The graph literally shows the source of profits. Winnie the Pooh is 99% merchandise, so toys, shirts and so on.
This isn’t the first live action portrayal, but it’s getting all of this attention because it’s on Netflix.
>Cinemaphile actually thinks One Piece is gonna bomb
They are gonna milk 7 seasons out of this
>live action Bon Clay
tv is gonna lose it
I think it’ll have its cult following years after. He’ll make some money at conventions.
He probably needs to pay rent too
because you don’t know any better about the project you’re signing on to
if they all liked anime they probably wouldn’t be there
I want to breed this lil’brazilian bros, does that make me a homosexual?
What career? 99.9% or actors never make it into the mainstream. He took the only opportunity of his life, probably.
>big fan of One Piece, get the lead role in a long-awaited (?) live action adaptation
>get to meet Oda himself and earn his approval
>get to network with Mackenyu and Nami's actress
Seems like a good enough deal to me. It's not like he had a shot for a successful career to begin with, given his looks. He got the role because Luffy himself is a weird looking character.
The guy reminds me of a young brazillian version of General Zodd from MoS
why did they cast a 40 years old to play a teenager?
good morning sirs
As a nobody actor, why would he pass up the opportunity to get paid?
Starring in a live action manga adaption for a streaming service seems like it's only second to starring in a live action remake of a Disney cartoon in terms of making sure your career ends right then and there.
He can at least get a decent pay day before getting a real job, if he didn't have this he would likely have nothing.
None of the actors in this show are getting paid in the way you think
Actors are prostitutes, they'll do as they're told and smile while doing it
>showrunner is a black weeb
we're going to be fine bros
Is he the when who says Luffy is like the vice president?
Not that anon but that was the asian one steve maeda.
As an upcoming actor, you take the roles you can get. It's not like you can waltz to movie studio and tell them what role you want.
imo the live action is going to be fine, not kino, just fine, good enough to have a season 2, and that too is going to be fine.
the main enemy of this whole franchise is still going to be netflix itself, its clear that it fears the one piece fanbase, and once they're on season 2/3 they're going to be more confident and that's where we would see 'creative' changes to the lore/characters
look, will that black haired chick use her feet powers or not
Rumor has it that during casting One Piece was still in it's Wano arc and when Oda asked a room full of hopeful auditoners whether they thought Carrot or Yamato would join the crew only one man responded by laughing hysterically.
That man was Inaki Godoy.
do we know if any of the cast are actual one piece fans?
Nami and Zoro actors.
Rumor has it that during casting One Piece was still in it's Wano arc and when Oda asked a room full of hopeful auditoners who they thought Shanks was referring to when he went to the gorosei, only one man responded by laughing hysterically.
That man was Inaki Godoy.
jinbe is by far the best straw hat. i straight up jumped in my chair when he reappeared
Why is Shanks so racist?
It will be popular among tasteless zoomie beaners, aka the average Cinemaphileeditor.
I'm watching for Zoro
He seems way too obsessed with his looks. Will he ever scowl or grit his teeth or is he just gonna keep trying to play Zoro like a pretty boy?
This, he looks more like an anime character than zoro does.
agreed
we would know if he appeared more than once in a decade
>2nd pic
>just right before he cuts the former mr. 7 in half
didnt expect the one piece liveaction to go full mortal kombat
pre-timeskip zoro wasn't that serious
Post-timeskip Zoro isn't either
>zoro and luffy laughing at pica
made me chuckle
Zoro has always been a likeable idiot.
hes too pretty IMO, zoro is supposed to be handsome but rugged
>zoro is supposed to be handsome but rugged
they chose to cast him as a chinese
Live action cartoons can work, just look at some of the better cape shit movies. I think the problem is Netflix and it's entire staff being zealous leftist cultists for some reason. Oda himself said that at times he felt hopeless regarding to the project, probably because people at Netflix were demanding everything to be as leftist as.posdible for reasons unknown and Oda wanted it to be close to the original.
it's this or being an extra in commercials for the rest of his life
>go from being literal nobody to actually getting to visit Oda's studio
Not gonna lie, that one meeting was worth the whole ordeal.
>why would you torch your career like this?
Because people like you have no fricking idea how an Acting Career works and goes.
it will be SOVL
>another twink for netfilx/amazon's teen dramas
He'll be fine
He was never going to be a successful hollywood actor. He can't pronounce any english words. He should have stayed in his favela
>favela
The actor is mexican
And yet he was raised in a favela. Curious.
Actors probably still think comic book movies/series can skyrocket their careers.
anime slop
Being in a bad show doesnt hurt the actors career. also, career?
>Torch
Anon this is a fricking huge opportunity literally one of the most beloved mangas in the world that even defeated the Batman comics + he is literally receiving praise left and right for actually looking charismatic, even if the live action fails he will be in more stuff in the future
>he is literally receiving praise left and right for actually looking charismatic
Lol nobody is dumb enough to believe israelitelywood shils
The French love it.
>One Piece will have more viewers than the newest Star Wars project
i doubt it will be the case outside muttland
one piece is weakest in America also rent free
only MHA is big there i dont understand why they didnt make it instead
MHA isn't big at all in Burgerland
still way bigger than any other manga and even more true for One Piece
>still way bigger than any other manga
Really? Woah
I'm going to buy a Netflix subscription just to watch one piece just to dab on star wars drones
That's the most moronic thing ever
does the cast realize how much hentai exists of One Piece? what a show to be a part of when millions of morons with computers can now generate an infinite amount of AI porn of them...
>what in the le heckin frick?!?! why would this literally who agree to be the lead in a a series based on a long running franchise on a popular streaming service??? IT DOESN’T ADD UP!
You know actors want to get work right?
I'm feeling nervous. Cinemaphile told me this would fail. Is One Piece really the only anime series capable of worldwide mainstream success once put into a real storytelling medium?
at least netflix was wise enough to promote the show from the fan angle, I was really worried that the strike would hurt it but it's as if they were allowed, they are even copying the barbie tours, having the cast taking photos with different costumes and references.
will he kill himself after the axe of this overshilled piece of shit
something is wrong i dont see any black person in it
Cinemaphile bros?
I dont like the cast for zorro and nami. Also t usopps nose should be longer
Koby is so cute this time bros. I am so confused. I'm straight but I want to cuddle him
Koby looks exactly like Koby. Saw someone say it was a terrible casting.
koby looks exactly like rule 63 koby
koby never looked like a woman
This is the first time I've approved of troony casting. I want to make that sheboy pregnant.
Does anyone know when the embargo lifts?
in 5min
two weeks
Is there any reaction yet? I mean, I know that some critics and influencers have already watched the first episode.
only shills for now
i've seen only hype and glowing fans... which feels off, but maybe it's because i'm not willing to accept that they actually pulled it off due to how many times i've been kicked in the nuts by netflix. either way guess i'll find out in 2 days.
It can't be unanimously loved, right bros?
why is luffy in de_dust
