MGM and Caesars Entertainment own most Las Vegas casinos now and I'd much rather have a high profile position there than have to deal with some Mafia fricks trying to rob and/or kill me
lol I remember watching this movie with my dad and he specifically complained about this scene. His issue was he felt the movie felt bloated and bogged down on minutia. "The movie should have been 30 minutes shorter. Did we really need to see him being a dick to his baker, or that pointless stuff about his tv show?"
Half correct. It shows what a control freak he is, which in the end destroys him. He’s a moronic gangster who thought his skill as a sports gambler would translate to a good life in business and marriage. He’s like Stringer Bell, but because scorsese movies are told from the perspective of the characters you have to read between the lines to realize they are in fact huge morons.
his typical ending works better in this movie though. instead of just turning moronic for no reason he gets screwed over by his best friend and his wife. but at least they get their comeuppance while he gets to keep living in relative luxury. felt satisfying and believable compared to his other rugpulls
yeah and? It's supposed to be a relatable dilemma. Many people fall for someone who has red flags but they can't help themselves, no matter how smart or powerful you are.
Of those I have only seen Taxi Driver and it sucked. I liked Departed but GoodFellas was terrible. The old israelite cannot do a music cue to save his life.
I’ll give casino a shot, but if that fails, I’m not watching a movie from this Manlet ever again.
Personally I didn't like casino, it was just a shittier Goodfellas to me. I would say don't bother with Casino if you didn't even like Goodfellas.
The one's I listed aren't anything like his gangster movies, which are the ones I enjoy most.
It's not as funny as Goodfellas, but I think I love it more. It's wild that almost all of this happened pretty much exactly how it's portrayed. And that part where De Niro's character brags about what a great handicapper he was is no joke, Lefty Rosenthal (the guy his character was based on) was, by a wide margin, the greatest sports handicapper of all time. There's no one else that comes close. For a long time after he was run out of Vegas, every bookmaker in town was one of his proteges. Some of them still are, but I think some have finally started to die off now.
Imagine owning a casino back in the day. Now you have to be a casino owner in a shit hole to have as much power

He is a fricking moron, this scene is very important plot wise.
That scene is very important. It shows what a control freak the main character is, and why he is so good at his job.

He actually was a great casino executive though, it was the goombah frickwits backing him who fricked everything up.
Your dad sounds like a typical boomer midwit.
I really enjoy the first 2/3rds of this movie.
I could say that about every Scorsese movie.

>don't marry me, I'm a dumb prostitute and you'll regret
>marries her

I can't listen to house of the rising sun without thinking about this damn movie
>You understand? We were casinos.
Does Scorsese have any good films? I haven’t seen this but the other films of his I have seen are obviously trash.
Taxi Driver, After Hours, King of Comedy, Bringing Out The Dead

Jesus. You must have one of those, what I like to call, moron Brains. Good luck.
He's just a moronic smug zoomer

This was the creative end of Scorsese's career. All downhill after that.
That's not true, his magnum opus came after this (The Aviator).
