I always found the HST worship embarrassing, and avoided it in my early twenties, but I read ‘Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail’ and some of his Rolling Stone articles over lockdown, and he’s genuinely an exceptionally talented, game-changing journalist. The cult of personality around him is cringe but the material is solid and absolutely essential if you’re interested in 60/70s history.
