lol he sucked in that. I can imagine someone being a way better annoying/overbearing military guy. He fell flat. Wasn't intimidating at all. I always thought he stuck out like a sore thumb and sucked huge ass in that part. Him and Ron Livingston were both the only really bad ones in the whole cast. Honorable mention of suckiness to chet hanks who also sucked but was only in a couple episodes.

Low IQ take. Schwimmer played Sobel perfectly. Most military officers kiss ass and pretend to look good in front of their commander and then act like Sobel towards their guys. Not intimidating at all, but they have to be listened to because the powers that be placed them in command. BoB had this down perfectly with interactions between Winters and Sobel, it was the perfect example of subordinates thinking superiors are moronic, but still obeying.
As far as Ron Livingston, an army intel officer is really just a glorified weatherman so he probably wasn't so jazzed up to play an alcoholic government meteorologist.
To be fair, Hanks wasn't that great, I'll agree there.
