I honestly don't even know if it's Wells. This entire run has been very Slottian to the point where I'm wondering if Lowe isn't basically telling Wells what to write with a little leeway i.e. break up and kill the Pete/MJ relationship in whatever way Wells wants. You have long time characters being shat on, toyetic suits, plots that go nowhere, stories that seem to go out of their way to insult readers (900 or the recent Ock story), deaths of characters who barely featured in the book, and now revolving door LIs. Frick, Peter even has a lab job.
Lowe came in during Superior and I get the feeling that his view of what Spider-Man should be is what Slott was doing. He hated what Spencer tried to do and Wells is way more compliant and doesn't give a shit (likely because he makes more writing for the MCU shows and movies). A lot of this run feels OOC for Wells who was an otherwise good writer but it does feel like the back half of Slott's run which makes me think that Lowe is exercising a lot of power over what's happening.

There was an issue from Civil War about Black Cat reflecting on Peter revealing his identity to the world. Felicia acknowledges that she doesn't just love him for being Spider-Man for being Spider-Man but also loves Peter, and for being a nice guy. Why revert that, again? The whole point of her character development was that Peter did succeed in making her a better person, and that she doesn't want to corrupt him anymore.

The only thing that has been slavaged from tjat shitshow was Mr Negative (thanks to Insomniac) and maybe Anti-Venom.

Completely unrelated, but how bad is PAD's Ben Reilly:Scarlet Spider? I've found a full compilation of it in hardcover for pretty cheap, so wonder how's is it, considering that the word of mouth I've heard so far was mixed at best, but PAD is a good writter and Bugley's art is my guilty pleasure

Ah, I have to wonder what PAD wanted to do before his health issues. When did that start? I've only began paying attention to it recently.
I think his health worsened shortly after the Ben book was done, but one way or another, he wanted to tell the story of a completely unhinged Ben who didn't know what he wanted to be. Then reaction was bad, and sales looked like the usual inevitable slump to cancellation as Spider spin-offs that aren't Miles are wont to go, and very early on they began course correcting. Regardless, then the book is split between PAD wanting Ben to ambivalent on morals and portraying him as an actual hero. The fact the book ends the way it did pretty much just shows what he actually wanted to write with the character. He also leaves out completely unsubtle hints at his distaste of where the book would head into, with characters kuterakky going "why can't we mix it up with who's hero and who's villain?!" to hear "IT'S WORKED SO FAR" and such.
To further compound the absolute fricking joke that is editorial in recent years, Spider-Geddon makes absolutely no reference to the ending of the PAD book. It's so disconnected people are just assuming it got stealth de-canonized.

PAD never liked Ben to begin with. If you look at any interviews from back in the day, he'd just say he knew Peter would always be back, and that he was kind of pointless. When a fan asked on an email interview to expand his thoughts on Ben, PAD's single reply was "Oy". He also openly mocked the Clone Saga as it was ongoing in his Hulk run.
I doubt when he was approached with a job to radically change up what the character had been up to that point that Lowe had to really hold him against his will to write what he originally intended. The book itself gets sanitized from PAD's original idea - Cassandra Mercury goes from master blackmailer to mostly just Abby's distressed mom, who literally runs philantropy following Secret Empire, and Slate becomes a whole lot friendlier to Ben and Kaine very quickly. To compound things further, Devin Lewis was the editor on Scarlet Spider, not Lowe. Lowe was "executive editor", but the utter disconnect between the end of the PAD book and Spider-Geddon lets you know he wasn't paying any attention. And Lowe WAS actually the editor in Spider-Geddon, so the 'fixing' of Ben happened directly under him.
PAD not liking ben i do buy, but the specific direction seems like something more out of lowe.
And lets not forget lowe being the one that removed ben from spencer's run.

I do have my own Spider-Man fanfic(which I want to make into a proper comic but I can't draw) and I'm trying to make it something I think would have genuine audience appeal instead of just being purely self-indulgent. I've focused on straightening out the timeline, cleaning up the lore, slimming down the cast, making characterization consistent, and writing original story arcs instead of rewriting old ones. Sure, there's some retellings here and there, but only if I'm actually changing something about them.

They need to retcon this entire run out of existence, make both Peter and MJ constructs. Both of them act extremely out of character in this run.
