>only thing it has left is Succession, which ended
>has nothing now (Euphoria for the cinematography maybe)

From kino-out-the-butthole back in the 2000's to utter irrelevancy and average cable tv dogshit.
What the absolute and utter frick went so wrong here?

Short answer is: the old head of programming was kicked out in the early/mid 2010's because the corporate suits wanted to turn the brand into another streaming service pumping out slop left and right to capture some of that Netflix bag. They got their way.

This does go a long way in explaining this. Frick sake.

Blame Zaslev. All he cares about is cutting costs and playing it safe. Now all they have is TLoU and a mountain of GoT spinoffs.

Blaming Zaslav is a cope. He got in charge in 2022, which means most of the slop he's greenlit hasn't even come out yet. HBO was already sliding down the drain beforehand.

Streaming services made HBO lose a lot of its competitive edge. Continuity heavy adult dramas aren't exactly rare anymore. I blame the fragmentation of media behind most things being garbage now. There are just too many shows and movies being made at any given time. There aren't enough actually talented people to support this growth. So instead of great people meeting together on one show/movie, they're scattered across the industry. DIE quotas completely killing off meritocracy only enhances that problem.

All those shows had strong showrunners.

Strong showrunners is not a thing anymore and the studios (and streaming services) prefer neutered yesmen in the showrunner role that will be obedient and grateful they're getting work at all.
Gone are the days where you can have a unique vision and a personal project you push through that becomes a hit. Now it's all calculated stuff vetted by multiple committees.

It’s a shame TotC is in license hell and never got a proper streaming release. It’s also stuck in SD because they must have lost the source film.

As he should. Oz was foreshadowed by The Sopranos

HBO needs to bring back their animation. Animals was one of the greatest western cartoons ever made, and The Life and Times of Tim was hilarious even if you could get 90 percent of it just listening.

People everywhere have just stopped caring about making good shit. The decline is real. Everything regressing to the level of Hallmark and Tyler Perry movies.

    >at one point was broadcasting The Sopranos, The Wire, Six Feet Under, Entourage, Rome, Carnivàle, and Deadwood
only the wire is good out of those

I understand taste being contrarian, but if you legitimately think only The Wire is even just 'good' out of all of those, then I genuinely have no idea why you're on a tv and film board at all.

i'm not one of those film buffs who think only six or seven entry level shows are good and there's nothing else good on tv

          >there's nothing else good on tv
No one ever implied that except for you right now. Whether you like """entry level""" shows or not, that doesn't mean you can't like other shows. Do you know what 'good' means? Is that the problem? You're too used to hyperbole and extremism?

literally OP and other people similar to him. It's easy to recognize them. They always name the same few shows and movies. Teenage "Film buffs" with 350 movies on imdb

What the frick are you even talking about now, dude? I'm just calling you out being a contrarian 'superior taste' gay that thinks only one show out of those six is good because god forbid anyone thinks you like anything.

i should pretend i think those shows are good to not look like a contrarian gay? What's your point here, mate? I think they are shit and that's why i said they are not good
