>Athena never really existed, she was just based on Thena, an unrelated alien, by humans misunderstanding what she was

>Athena never really existed, she was just based on Thena, an unrelated alien, by humans misunderstanding what she was
>But all of the other Greek and Egyptian gods were real
>The Norse gods were both aliens pretending to be gods and not gods at all
>Also, Icarus was based on an alien named Ikarus, who later actually flew into the sun thousands of years after the myth was created for completely unrelated reasons

Are there even any superheroes based on Egyptian Gods?

fun fact, Hercules and Khonshu are the same guy as far as the Egyptians were concerned (once they heard about Hercules a thousand years later)

Wasn't Athena just Athen's OC snowflake goddess who was just a ripoff of Aphrodite before they bimbofied her to make Athena the only war goddess?

who the frick knows, there's all sorts of deranged Claremont grade shit around both of them. In some versions Athena is the result of Zeus swallowing a woman he knocked up to turn the baby into a girl instead of a boy who would have gone on to usurp him as he did to Kronos. And Aphrodite might technically be some other god's severed wiener transformed into a goddess by the sea.

Also, Greek Mythology, as well as culture, was just an unholy mix of Indo-European and Semitic, to the point where it all contradicted each other.

Depends, what would Athens make their OC such a massive b***h though?

Because the stories that make God's look bad are generally not government compliant, but usually from rebellious writers who are shitting on said government. When you write a myth about Athena being a total b***h, that's symbolism for Athen's leadership being c**ts.
Zeus is the King of Gods, ruler of the universe, and God of Justice. All those stories of him being an entitled butthole, dead eat dad, and straight up rapist are all more of less just a metaphor for how life isn't fair, it doesn't owe you justice, and the world will frick you over, and there's nothing you can really do about it.

I thought the blind lady with the balance was Justice.

Yes Themis is the goddess of Justice, and Zeus is the God of Justice and Honor. Just like Ares, Athena, and Aphrodite(before Athen's pr campaign) are all war gods, and how there are multiple harvest/farming gods besides Demeter.
What people don't realize is that Greek Mythology is a mix of various local faiths into semi organized mess meant to represent the region as a whole, and even then how people think of the Pantheon changes from city-state to city-state.

I think the idea is an extrapolation of "sufficiently advanced tech is functionally the same as magic". Ie, "sufficiently advanced aliens are functionally the same as gods". They could plausibly be interpreted as either so it doesn't matter which anyone claims, except, of course, to autists who cant live with the ambiguity.

That was a fine explanation until the God City in Thor 4.

Why we never get the opposite? Sufficiently archaic magic is indistinguishable from science.

I mean isn't it up for debate in the comics?

Thena and the Eternals may have existed first and the Legends of her stories told and retold by humans created Athena and the Olympians out of belief
Or Athena existed first and the Machine named Thena after her

Or they both existed independently of each other and the stories of both got conflated
