Disney was looking for shows featuring younger characters at the time, so these designs were ultimately scrapped in favor of making a short animation test featuring a redesigned, younger Aurora. This has never been seen before.

Weird, making a whole other pilot to make a new show. It makes sense to try a pre-school demographic, but it also feels like the show was conceived by an exec.
Not unusual in the industry, I actually recall a certain animal detectives show being animated by titmouse in 2d for the pilot, but it ended up becoming a 3d preschool show with different designs. Development is about trying different things until something sticks
I know this sounds random, and you don’t have to name names, but did you ever see any really REALLY BAD pilots or pitch bibles?
I'm sorry but I am glad this didn't go through. The designs from both clips are terrible. The second clip looks slightly better but it's far from being remotely similar to what it's on the pitch bible, which I think are ok, but okay enough. The pitch bible is also just boring and uninteresting, not interesting enough to even fully read it, it's all very predicatable in a boring sense.
I'm all in for DTVA to pick up non American shows, but not like this, there are better ideas out there.

Kind of a shame that. Though I guess odds are there are a bunch of series that get dropped like this that we don't know about.

First impressions on the first original short makes it seem like it's going for that Star vs niche that was pretty popular at the time, and it really feels like a short that would have fit right in on Shorty McShortshorts back in the days. It honestly would have fit in even better as a series pitched back in 2010, since it feels like a show from that time period. I dig it, especially it's wonky animation style that feels like a good change of pace from the stiffer animation they used nowadays.
Second short... really is just inoffensive fluff that probably would only last one year as XD filler like ghostforce. She acts much more like a little sister character to the older Aurora than as a main protagonist. While the first short would have gone the way of Star vs and introduced a lot of that "Quirky Disney girl Isekai" shtick they've been going for, second one looks pretty generic and would easily have been forgotten about after the first season.
