There is almost nothing "based" about the confederate government. They were purely concerned with their economic interests. The common man on both sides of the war were racist as frick and did absolutely not want black integration.

Felton wasn't wrong about it though, and the page this guy quickly skips over from Groves' memoir proves it lol

It would've been a logistics headache to bring over some Lancs and their support to somewhere like Tinian, but it was also a real, working bomber that they knew could carry a nuke. The B-29 was still a "maybe." But they decided they wanted an American bomber to carry the bomb, which is what Felton said before this random autist got all asshurt over it.

He was wrong, he made up a whole bunch of bullshit about specially trained RAF crews in black Lancasters being on standby. Just because the Lancaster was briefly considered doesn’t mean we were going to use the Lancaster as a backup if the B-29 didn’t work.

Greg’s second point that the Lancaster was unfit for the job based on physical characteristics, like an inaccessible bomb bay to arm the nuke which was a dealbreaker by itself. All of this goes to show Felton was talking out of his ass.

          >Greg’s second point that the Lancaster was unfit for the job based on physical characteristics, like an inaccessible bomb bay to arm the nuke which was a dealbreaker by itself.

That was the most hilariously moronic assertion our guy makes and it's one that I laughed the hardest at. What?

They went with the arming plugs because the B-29 had an accessible bomb bay. If they had to use Lancs to deliver the bombs, they would've used arming vanes, or a remote switch, or something that would've allowed the in-flight arming of the bomb. I mean, they had to modify the bombs they ended up using so they'd fit in the bomb bay of themodified B-29s

The RAF were setting up for bombing runs on Japan. It would've been fine.

Arming the nukes involved putting components into the bombs, it wasn’t as simple as flipping a switch, and for good reason.

Why do you defend this goblins lies?

              >Arming the nukes involved putting components into the bombs, it wasn’t as simple as flipping a switch, and for good reason.

You're getting it backwards my man, the reason that was the arming procedure was because, when they were designing the bomb casings, they knew someone could be standing next to the bomb bc B-29 bomb bay. If that hadn't been the case, there are a hundred different ways to arm the bomb in-flight, such as the ones used on the Grand Slam giganto-bombs. It's easier to design a bomb casing than an entire aircraft.

Does the guy think that if the B-29 hadn't worked out, which was a definite possibility in 1944, they were just going to let the bombs sit? It's so strange.

Groves' own memoirs say they knew the Lanc could carry the bombs, Ramsey was even in favor of it, but Groves and Arnold decided it would be “beyond comprehension to use a British plane to deliver an American A-bomb” (from his memoirs) so they decided to try to make the B-29 work. And fortunately it did.

                >Does the guy think that if the B-29 hadn't worked out, which was a definite possibility in 1944, they were just going to let the bombs sit?
                B-32 dominator was plan B.
Also, if what you’re saying is true, how come no one in the comment section is arguing from the same angle? Plenty of people are defending Felton but not for the reasons you gave.

                >B-32 dominator was plan B.

If that were true, it wouldn't have had those twin bomb bays from the get-go.

Again, Groves' own memoirs state the obvious fact that the choice was down to the Lancaster, which they knew could carry the bombs, and the B-29, which they were hoping was going to work even though it was a development nightmare (and turned out would still need the extensive Silverplate modifications to carry the bombs at all), and they decided that they wanted an American plane to carry the American bomb, so the Lanc would be the last resort choice if the B-29 didn't work out. It's all in there. Why would he lie?

                >how come no one in the comment section is arguing from the same angle? Plenty of people are defending Felton but not for the reasons you gave.

Because people who argue on YouTube comment sections are morons? I mean, even ignoring what the guy in charge wrote in his memoirs about the thing, just think about it. It wasn't a sure thing in 1944 that the 29 was going to work. Ramsey wanted to use the Lanc, and designing the bomb casing was literally his job! If Silverplate hadn't worked, they were not going to cancel the drops.

You make compelling points, but ultimately Felton is still full of shit about a unit of black painted Lancasters on standby. He pulled that totally out of nowhere or, at best, purposely misled people into thinking his hypothetical was a real thing. I can’t take him seriously after that. The man is a clickbaiter in the worst way.

Dr Felton is a fine chap and his stories have eased me into dreamland countless times, sometimes as I'm about to fall asleep Mark will make one of his silly jokes and huff, it always makes me smile. The dreams are horrific nightmares though, inside a nazi death camp or being tortured by japs in the jungle, or being exploded by a bombing raid. Just terrific.

So am I, the 2 don’t necessarily correlate
