And that would be the dumb reason. If all you wanted was an AI upscale of the Verhoeven movie, go run the Verhoeven movie through an upscaler and shut up.

In the meantime Robocop 2014 was very nearly a perfect movie, probably one of the last to ever be made, there's nothing you can pick out of it to say "well if they had have changed that it would have been better." Nothing in it didn't work.

Your complaint is literally and completely "but it wasn't this other movie with the same name and themes that I liked" well no shit dickhead, how the frick did not know that going in?

If you're going to try and cash in on a recognizable brand name, you have a responsibility to be as good or better than the original you're using. Robocop 2014 was an okay movie, but that was it. It was as thoroughly forgettable as the Total Recall or Conan the Barbarian remakes.

Who was the villain in the remake? What was the plot outside a cop becomes a cyborg? Nobody remembers. You know what they do remember? Clarence Boddicker. "Do you fly Bobby?" "Bitches leave." "Give the man a hand!" And he wasn't the only memorable character. Dick Jones and Bob Morton, his partner Lois and her wandering eyes, the "I'd buy that for a dollar!" guy.

RoboCop 1987 was THE perfect movie and set an impossibly high bar. And it's not that the remake was great and failed to meet it, it's that it was just okay.

              >If you're going to try and cash in on a recognizable brand name
Like I said, slap a different IP on this and people like you stop being a problem.

              >Who was the villain in the remake?
              Michael Keaton as corporate douchebag
              >What was the plot outside a cop becomes a cyborg?
Honest cop tries to take down organized crime gang, gets betrayed by black female boss, becomes a pawn in corporate douchebag's plot to sell robots to law enforcement in The United States by becoming a cuborg. Corporate Douchebag tries to kill honest cyborg cop when cyborg cop's usefullness runs out, cyborg cop takes that personally and hunt corporate douchebag to roof of skyscraper where corporate douchebag's "red tag" prevents cyborg cop from doing anything to harm corporate douchebag, cyborg cop overrides his programming and kills corporate douchebag becoming a hero to the public and getting a new paintjob.

All without violating a single copyright or trademark.

              >You know what they do remember?
The other movie with the same name and similar themes?

I literally change the name from Robocop to Cyborg cop and your whole everything is revealed to be the shitty take it is.

              > THE perfect movie
It wasn't though. The special effects didn't age well, we know robots don't move like that, the villains were evil for the sake of being evil.

It's a good movie, I love Verhoeven, but the definition of a PERFECT movie is "no production decisions could have been made differently to improve it" and the Verhoeven movie has flaws.

Robocop 2014 could have used a better soundtrack, and a bit more TnA would have spiced it up a little bit, but it was close to perfect. And your whinging is just "I like a different movie." Well okay, you go like that movie, but that doesn't really impact the discussion of this movie.

                >we know robots don't move like that
In Robocop they do. It's not trying to portray the real world.

Well I watched it and had fun. Nobody asked for a new RoboCop but it wasnt objectively bad, it was simply unnecessary.

        I also liked it.
It wasn't Verhoeven but it wasn't trying to be. It was just solid sci fi and good at it.

If anything it proves something I've been saying for a while, which is slapping old IPs on something for a budget isn't actually a good idea. A lot of the time the wrong audience shows up, hates it for dumb reasons, and the box office is lower than it would have been with a fresh IP as a result.

i bet you like get colonated by thick west african bull wiener

I couldn't say if it sucked or not, because I can't really remember any of it. I know it had a real especially derpy robocop suit, gary oldman, and was set in the Tron universe for some reason, but that's it. It was like this smooth object of a movie that my memory couldn't keep a grip on.

Story was okay, and they butchered the “dead or alive” line. But action was top notch and clowns modern marvel robots to this day.

on a scale from one to netflix how woke is that series?

        Anonymous

5 or 6 depending on how you feel about IRL NASA.
There's a lot of "isn't it great that female POC are allowed to become scientists now" which does get obnoxious.
But there's also a fair bit of "you only got this mission because you're a black female and it's politics keeping the white man down" in text. I don't know how you feel about that, to me it's still boring American politics which isn't entertaining to me, but it is realistic.
And of course one of the female astronauts is a lesbian and that used to be illegal so they've got to do a whole thing about that.

Even with the excuses it makes for itself it's still Female Astronaut 7 part 6. The first season is worth binging, after that it's very stale.

I watched exactly three episodes of For All Mankind and it had the moon landing interspliced with a mexican heroically jumping the border and I hear it just gets worse from there until it's completely relationship drama.
    Enjoyed Altered Carbon S01.

I got as far as him bullying based Poe into erasing his personality and memories. Newnig couldn't pull that scene off and it was hilarious to see him try and be japanesey with the yakuza.
