Lo'ak is cool. Jake just disliked him subconsciously because Lo'ak is so much like him that it was unpleasant to recognize those traits in him he doesn't like in himself. Made even worse that Lo'ak looks almost exactly like Jake's avatar, instead of a "perfect wonderboy" that his older son was.

Read The High Ground. It's an alternate take on Way of Water and he survives the events of that story.

I recently went through them. There's a few nice parts but they're not great honestly. Adapt or Die is easily the worst of the bunch. I liked Tsu'tey's path the best because it coincides with the first movie and it gives reasonable explanations for Tsu'tey's actions beyond mere love triangle/cuckoldry.

Each book has a group of 3-5 nobodies working together to do story, art + lettering. The best art overall is in the first half of High Ground V. 3, it's much more expressionistic than the rest.

I’m an avatargay. Would I enjoy them or would these tickle my autism by contradicting the lore in the movie and shit.

                Anonymous

Adapt or Die, Tsu'tey's Path and Next Shadow can all be accomodated to the films and don't contradict anything in any meaningful way. High Ground is an alternate script idea for the second movie but it has MANY of the same story beats as WoW, just permuted to different times and with slightly different settings in some cases.

The back cover blurbs for High Ground advertise it as happening right before the events of Way of Water, but this simply doesn't make any sense, precisely because it's a draft version of the film.

All of them are noncanon trash don't bother. Unless Tsu'tey is your blorbo or something.

Preach it brother. I first realized I was gay during a bowel movement one day.
      >I shat such a large loaf, I just wish I could shit that loaf again.
      >So I tried it.
      >It was gross at first, but the stool was so firm it didn’t break apart when I lifted it out of the toilet bowl.
      >My ass was empty, but I clenched it as hard as I could as if I was trying to have a bowel movement.
      >This opened my ass just wide enough for me to begin to snake the stool back inside.
      >It was cold haha! But it warmed up the further up it went.
      >I sneezed and my ass cut the stool in half and it plopped back into the toilet water.
      >I realized then why it was relatively easy to re-insert the stool, it was the toilet water.
      >The water was a rancid greenish brown, but I figured all this was just in my body moments ago, so it was clean enough that I probably wouldn’t get sick if it went back inside me.
      >The pinched loaf went in easier than the first half.
      >At this point, I REALLY have to poop haha, but I endure.
      >The entire length was inside me again, I can feel the heat returning as my body’s energy warms the waterlogged logs.
      >I release…

I think outcome of the ritual is way too uncertain to just do it on everyone. Remember, we only saw it twice and in one of them Eywa needed Grace for something so she didn't let her consciousness leave and kept her for something that only Eywa knows. We as an audience know that Grace still can be extracted into a body if Eywa allows it, but from everyone else's perspective the chance of successful transfer is 50/50. Way too risky.

I have. In fact, the most deadly part of the atmosphere is the unusually high concentration of hydrogen sulfide, which is the main reason that humans will choke out within a few breaths. Xenon is an inert noble gas and while not breathable, wouldn't cause nearly as fast a negative reaction if breathed in.

Scorch every forest and ecosystem with bombs and the Navi die out and so do the whales and everything else they’re trying to exhume from pandora. There was a lot of lingering shots of her pooching out her ass in Way of Water. Was really kino because in the first one they were really conservative with the fan service, which is good and makes a more dignified film but in Way of Water it’s still conservative but there’s like 2 or 3 instances of a nice prolonged look at Neytiris enlarged ass. Thank you Jim.

You know this was some utter bullshit parrot deal when suddenly EVERYONE starts chirping out the same term they have never leveled at a film before in their life. Sometimes people just want to go see a cool movie at the cinema and go home. They don't need to make it their life. Top Gun was the same.

What is it about her that makes everybody cast her in main roles in such prominent, high budget films? She's objectively very pretty, but she's not nearly in the same tier as prime Connelli or Bellucci. She's a good actress that occasionally has streaks of greatness in her acting, but she has no attraction to her name and seem to be leading a quiet family life with no drama by Hollywood standards.

By no attraction to her name I mean that not many people will see "Zoe Saldaña" in a trailer or on a poster and will say: "Holy shit, Zoe Saldaña is in this movie, I have to see it now!"
My only guess is that she must be fantastic to work with on set and probably has drama-free, diva-free attitude and generally is a very chill, easy to work with person. Right attitude can get you very far.

She also probably is one of the few actresses who is okay with not having her actual face be in every production she's always in heavy costume/CGI

Lots of actors want to show off how well they can act by making sure their face is shown a lot (think why Pedro Pascal hates Mandalorian or the guy who plays John Halo in the Halo show)

              Anonymous

An actor/actresses' absolute favorite thing in the whole wide world is to have their face known to the world. Actors love love love close-up shots of their real faces (or having production photos taken of their stage work). This is true for pretty much all actors/actresses. If you have some weird movie involving puppets (Marquis comes to mind) or people wearing full costume obscuring their faces the entire time, it can be a little tricky to find actors/dancers willing to do it who have the other skills needed.

Fortunately, the tech for Avatar is such that it retains essential aspects of a person's real face, so that blunts the problem somewhat. Ed Norton wanted to play a Na'vi, but they only wanted him to play a human character so Norton turned it down.

Harry Dean Stanton was already an old man when Alien was filmed. In the original cut, there's a scene that's just an extreme close-up of Harry's face as he wets his face and just mugs for the camera for like 40 uninterrupted seconds. When he saw the premiere, Harry was super happy about this shot of himself and personally thanked Ridley for including it.

I need some advice. Theres a really friendly stray cat outside my apartment that i would take in but i live in a studio and already have a cat. Theres nowhere i could separate them if i brought it in and its getting cold here. The most i could do was put some dry food and water out with a little box with a blanket in it. I feel really shitty about this whole situation is there anything i can do to help this cat in any other way? I just dont want to leave it out there but im hoping the shelter i gave it will keep it warm. I hate this shit its so depressing i just dont know if its sick or if it and my cat will fight if i take it in. I dont have anyone to ask about this this is a serious post

It's literally irrelevant. In a world that isn't moronic he would have shot the children dead the instant he captured them for a third time. And the funny thing is he would have been justified. That's how fricked this movie is.

Because Jake failed to listen to his demands three times in a row.
You take hostages for leverage. If there's no leverage then there's no point for hostages. And if the guy refuses to listen to your demands and then kills your own men, then yeah, the kids deserve to be killed.

And you might be saying... that's moronic. Correct! The movie is moronic.

Ok, since we know that Grace's avatar is still available and just remains in stasis in its pod, then we can be pretty confident that we have a Chekov's gun here, right?

I mean, why did they keep it just floating in liquid if nobody is going to use it? Kiri doesn't have a need for it since she doesn't have a human body and there's nobody else who could drive it, since avatars only fit to people who share its genetics like Jake and Tommy.

Would it be crazy to assume that at some point Grace could come back from the "Matrix" and Eywa will finally upload Grace' consciousness into her avatar's body? Not right now, since Eywa obviously needs her for something, but somewhere in the future.

I'm assuming this because if Cameron wanted for Grace to remain dead with no possibility of returning to the physical world, he could simply have the avatar buried along her human body in a beautiful symbolic ritual. Yet he didn't do it. Thoughts?

      Anonymous

Grace's consciousness is already inside Kiri. And Kiri likes to keep her around so she can visit her "mother"/old body.

        Anonymous

If Kiri had her consciousness then she would've had her memories too, which she doesn't have. She's not Grace, she is Cameron's Neo and she's beginning to believe.

          Anonymous

Wrong. Eywa obviously wasn't able to get all of Grace out before she died and into the Avatar in time. She could only get Grace's soul out, then the best she could do was to put it inside Grace's womb as a new child. That's very obvious from the movies.

            Anonymous

Grace didn't have superpowers so I would wager she is both a reincarnation of Grace and a physical incarnation of Eywa.

We still see other active Avatars in the first act, just as we see the basketball players and a few other figures in the first movie. But they aren't developed as characters, we focus on the Jake and Ney relationship in that one, with Grace and Norm being the assistants.

One thing I'd like to see in the third movie is development of other AVATAR drivers specifically. The Omatikaya still have to ward off attacks and going back to them for part of the picture (not all of it) would be a good point to develop such characters. There's lots of characters now who are "part human, part Na'vi" in one sense or another. Let's have more of that, because it goes to the central conflict.

I like how Norm continues to run ops with the horse clan, he cut his teeth on that and he's good at it. Everyone has their part to play in order for an op to work.

Would have been good to show him and Trudy canoodling in the original, would clearly explain why he's relaxed. When Norm is balancing in Jake's chair, it's a clear indication that they've become friends and Jake trusts Norm with a piece of gear that he really needs. It's a big change from that NASTY nerd incel scowl that Norm has on his face at the start of the second act as Jake just waltzes in and gets the glory.

                >It's a big change from that NASTY nerd incel scowl that Norm
I know you're not being serious, but still. Norm seething at Jake and his jealousy are very much understandable. I'd be pretty mad if I had to spend who knows how many years researching the planet and its people, learning their language to the point of fluency, learning their customs and getting picked out of who knows how many canditates to spend five years in a cryo sleep just to be upstaged by a former marine who's dumb as a rock (at a first glance) in what seems like a complete accident. Jake doesn't present himself well at first too, showing disinterest in the planet and behaving like a fricking jarhead, this doesn't help his relationship with Grace and Norm at all. When they realize that under this marine facade there is actually a curious and open-minded individual they mellow out a lot.

                Anonymous

I am being serious about how he looks in that shot, I'm just using contemporary terms to describe it. Leaving aside all the legit reasons and plot/story motivation, Norm is simply a pissed-off nerd in that moment and he looks it. A moment later Jake alpha flexes on him about the woman taking interest in him. It seems at this point like these guys aren't gonna like each other.

                Anonymous

Yes, it does look like an incel jealousy if you don't know what is actually in Norm's head. That's why I hope that Jim releases an actual Director's Cut with all those unfinished scenes included.

There’s no way these permanent Avatar beings aren’t gonna join the Navi, right? They can’t even breathe human air, how are they going to have a life and be apart of society outside being tools of war? How much are they getting paid?

            Anonymous

They won't and they must realize at somee pont that they are stuck on Pandora for good and it's the only home they'll ever have.

This is true for Spider as well by the way. He's a boy who was born on Pandora, grew up in a Na'vi society, Na'vi language is as much of a mother tongue to his as English if not more so, he's completely unadapted to the cyberpunk society back on Earth we saw in the first movie, our planet is totally alien to him, ironically. He must find a way to get himself an avatar, he doesn't really have a choice if he wants to have a normal life.

Having an avatar requires a lot of logistic bullshit. Spider would have to be uploaded by Eywa or else he might as well just stay a monkey kid.

He's already a different person if you didn't notice. He's a Na'vi physically and experiences Pandora in a way the real Quaritch could never do. Just because he has some of his dna and his memories doesn't mean he's the same man, because he's clearly not, which has been said literally in the movie. Imo, Quaritch, Kiri, Lo'ak and Spider are the most fascinating characters because there are multiple ways they could develop with their unique backgrounds and reducing recom "Quaritch" to just a copy of the dead original would be a waste.

This is just me theorizing but after they said the whale goo gives immortality, I kind of think Eywa gives immortality too.
i.e. that actually is Quaritch, his soul is in that body, it’s not just copy, same with Kiri (it’s Grace). Maybe not but I kind of think that’s where this is going and that will be a whole to-do.

With important differences. The whole first movie is Jake's boyish leaps and bounds into manhood, quickly and conveniently passing the various rites of passage which his background has prepared him for. He goes from a cripple whose life has no purpose or meaning (halfway through, his low point in the film) to a ten-foot tall able-bodied warrior chief who flies dragons, has something worth caring about, has friends and gets the cute girl. Avatar is strucutrally designed as the ultimate male wish fulfillment fantasy (free of all physical constraints), just as Titanic is structurally designed as the ultimate female wish fulfillment fantasy (total freedom from all social sanction and social constraints, ability to get chad dick and brag about it years later).

Jake says "I really hope this tree-hugging crap isn't on the final (test)". Later, he EMBRACES THE GROUND around the tree that he prays to and gives Eywa a heads-up. This one action ensures his victory; absent this, he would not have won. HE PASSES HIS FINAL TEST: becoming a tree-hugger.

Jake starts out as a "boy", reacting with boyish glee at everything. Touching all the plants, ignoring the med techs and just running around. His initial reaction to his new body is joy and delight. Quaritch's first reaction is anger and violence (although this is triggered by the sight of other recom bodies). Quaritch manages to get an "evil-colored" dark ikran at the same spot that Jake did, and even starts learning some Na'vi, but the parallels stop around there as Quaritch hangs with humans instead of ever appreciating the world for which he is designed.

Quaritch also compares slightly with the Michael Biehn SEAL character from The Abyss: the latter snaps, but both have implacable (and reasonable) hatred for the aliens.

This, Cameron made it very obvious that he has some serious character development in store for "Quaritch". He doesn't really have a choice too, he can't go back to Earth which means that he has to learn how Pandora and Na'vi work, whether he likes it or not.

"Hello, I am an established Canadian film director. For my next picture, I would like a Canadian pop singer to perform a pleasant, inoffensive, middle-of-the-road tie-in track which touches on the film's themes, to play as the film's opening credits begin. The vocalist should have real range and emotional expression, and may be asked to write their own lyrics. If you are interested, please take one of the paper cut-out-tags on the flyer. You can check my background HERE (list of data)."

How does he fare on Pandora?

Idk. A Navi is way bigger than a predator but predators have all their gear and shit.

And they may not be there to hunt Na'vi anyway, there are a lot of possible hunts on that moon.

with gear he could probably survive for a while. killing most of the Pandoran wildlife wouldn't be hard. same with surviving the elements. against regular civilian n'avi (children, weavers, cooks, artists, mothers etc) with gear I'd say he could probably take out 10-15 with moderate-easy difficulty if done with stealth and not around any camp or hometree.
but keep in mind that one human soldier out of his element in the middle of the jungle was able to outsmart a predator in the first movie.
I think the predator would get beaten with moderate difficulty against any well trained or veteran navi warrior on home turf. despite the advanced gear the home field advantage is huge for the na'vi. he could defeat one thanator but a pack would just overpower him even with the gear. fauna/target size and knowledge of the moon plays a bit role in determining how well he would do.
plus the big thing about predators is their cloaking, na'vi have heightened senses and unless the predator was able to mask his smell or subtle tracks in some other way the cloaking is kinda moot.
my take might be ass or biased since this is a blue thread, but I think I've been logical.

It is not oftentimes I agree with a redditor, but this one is spot on. It's indeed somewhat bizarre how Avatar became sort of a mainstream counter culture to MCU and Capeshit in general. These movies ooze sincerity and cleary are a passion project of one of a kind filmmaker.

      Anonymous

the whole mcu and dc movies are a bad take on what avatar and in a way the blockbuster genre was about, they they could capitalize by basically making fan service cinema but it doesnt work like that, at least not for a long time

      Anonymous

I've seen a lot of the MCU, there's sparks of earnestness here and there but it's too often smothered in worries about seeming not funny or ironic enough. The only property that's consistently earnest there, ironically is one that's heavy on the funny emphasis, the GOTG films, I can tell the filmmaker is genuinely passionate about the material and at least has the skill to get it on screen successfully. Some of the stuff they did with Captain America was surprisingly earnest and straight, like he was indeed an old fashioned boy scout good guy, they played much of his man out of time story seriously (Whedon's take on him was fairly rubbish but luckily he only handled him in two films) and they even ended their big finale film on him getting a happy ending.

Other than than it's pretty barebones in terms of earnest passion, just sort of calculated boardroom products, to say nothing of the DCEU.

I think the most honest film in the MCU was the first Iron Man. Not surprising though, since it it became before MCU was an actual thing. GOTG work as a standalone series, the problem is when everyone in the MCU starts acting like Tony Stark or Starlord, everyone talks in those dumb quips, that get tired really quickly.

        Here's what I'm rocking:

        http://roteirodecinema.com.br/scripts/reader/files/AVATAR_JamesCameron.pdf

        plus

youtube seems to be generating other pleasant repetitions of basic themes that run for hours but that's the one I have going atm. The thing loops after a few minutes and now I'm self-conscious of it.

While reading the screenplay I finally see the "moron" word that was subbed out (dude don't use that, you'll lose money or something). Also the extra stuff in the deleted scenes (the drink ritual which suggests Dune). The dance sequence with Ney, never shown in the original, also suggests the critical dance sequence in Titanic. Both dance sequences happen about 60% of the way in.

Despite it being a movie entirely about half-naked aliens, the movie had almost no sex appeal.
Idk. The Na'vi are too lanky or something. They also don't have breasts or dick bulges.
It's like watching a bunch of 9ft tall anorexics.

I don't really blame James Cameron for this, it seems like he's trying, and it's likely the ratings board censors that demand there be zero eroticism, but come on...
They made a 3 hour long movie about people in loincloths boring to look at.
