Roku has a massive ego problem. Bluntly shuts Sozin down at his wedding without any discussion. It doesn’t even occur to him that he could plan on refusing his best friend’s ideas but still let him speak first, no, it’s just “we’re not discussing this and I don’t want to hear about it again.” That’s not just a shitty way to treat your best friend, it’s terrible diplomacy with one of the rulers of the Four Nations and one you have a direct personal relationship with.
roku did the hands off approach, he thought it would be best for all nations to govern themselves with him going around commanding them.
kyoshi was the same she preffered to stay on her island
>kyoshi was the same she preffered to stay on her island
Yeah while Chin conquered the entire Earth Kingdom and was about to overthrow the Earth King. Kyoshi was a moron
Kuruk is the most punished avatars of all.
Yangchen was really good for humans, but had a bias against spirits after one of them killed her gay lover.
The whole reason why koh killed his lover was, because him and a bunch of other spirits had a vendetta against Yangchen.
So he fought a war against evil spirits on his own without letting anyone know about it to preserve Yangchen's legacy as one of the greatest avatars to date.
He died at the young age of 33 after the war against evil spirits weared down his body and soul.
This is all canon.
>Aang chose those four toys because "he thought they were fun" but in reality it was because his familiarity with/affection towards them carried over from past lives >Wan and any straight male avatars that followed immediately after inadvertently gave any subsequent female avatars a predisposition towards being gay because they have lingering romantic familiarity and affection towards women >this is only reinforced further with each lifetime as each male avatar settles down with a woman and each female avatar also ends up preferring women, it would take a thousand lifetimes of male avatars being gay and female ones not finding a woman to settle down with in order to bring the level back into neutral balance >the avatar is simultaneously the most straight male and gayest female in existence.
After reading this, Kuruk is basically the Booster Gold of the Avatar World >Publicly known as a hedonistic, narcissistic slacker >Secretly fights a shadow war that is regularly keeping humanity from going extinct >Never lets anybody know about his accomplishments to preserve a facade >His team frequently has to pick up the slack for him >One of his teammates is corrupt and the death of someone close to him drives him over the edge.
Is Roku the worst Avatar in history? >vanished for no reason >Could've prevented the war, didn't >Allowed the air nomads to be nearly wiped out >Left all of his problems to a 12 year old boy
As shitty as Korra is she does have actual accomplishments under her belt such as
defeating Kuvira (basically every other season it's someone else who stopped the threat such as Amon, Jinora and Jinora again)
Kuruk literally died having done absolutely nothing.
Yes. Even original canon Kuruk (not whatever's going on with him in the books) at least only lasted for 30 odd years and didn't frick directly frick up much shit. Roku did jack shit and lived for long enough to actually see the consequences of doing so, and therefore deserves the title of worst.
the air nomads to be nearly wiped out
He didn't "allow" it. He died because his best friend betrayed him and left him for dead. And to be honest, it is the Airbenders fault
>knew the the next avatar would be of the air element >all airbenders live in the air temples >telling anyone at all ever about avatar secrets
it was his fault, don't be delusional
>>knew the the next avatar would be of the air element
common knowledge >>all airbenders live in the air temples
also common knowledge
anyone at all ever about avatar secrets
what?
Are you also gonna blame the Red Lotus on Aang? Roku didn't know that Sozin planned to exterminate the Air Nomads or go after the next Avatar
still doesn't explain why he vanished. He even admits in the final episode when he speaks with Aang that the war and the near destruction of the air nomads was his fault.
He feels that way in hindsight. He left because the world was in balance and there were no conflicts with the spirit world. It wasn't his job to stop every war ever especially before the war even started. It's like killing politicians just because you think they might turn into hitler.
The avatar can't just come in and directly change the goverment of a country just because he deems it dangerous.
the water tribe avatar that came before him was even worse.
dude litteraly whent around challeging people to fights and dunked on them with his avatar powers.
then koh of the spirit world had enough of his shit and stole his wife to teach him a lesson.
it was sort of avatar yangchen's fault, she was so effective, ruthless and good during her era that no one dared to do any shit, thus making the 2 era's after her so easy that those avatars fricked up
>drinkimg ithe yang chen koolaid
Punished kuruk's name was tarnished and his life cut short so that he could clean up her mess and keep her legacy alive.
>drinkimg ithe yang chen koolaid
Punished kuruk's name was tarnished and his life cut short so that he could clean up her mess and keep her legacy alive.
I may have only seen the show but what little we saw of Kuruk was he didn't seem to care about the "duty" aspects of avatar-dom at all.
>I may have only seen the show but what little we saw of Kuruk was he didn't seem to care about the "duty" aspects of avatar-dom at all.
Yes, the cartoon didn't do shit with Kuruk, only the spinoff contents actually gave a depth to him
I like how when Aang finally got to talk to another Airbender Avatar seeking a more peaceful perspective, she basically went "Yeah you should kill a b***h".
Roku's guidance and experience directly helped Aang, so he wasn't a bad Avatar he just had a lot of posthumous impact. Worst Avatar goes to Korra whose lasting frickups could fill an essay.
Nah Kuruk was objectively worse >Do literally nothing other than goof off for like twenty years >Piss off Koh the Face Stealer >Get your wife's face stolen >Confront Koh >Die
>That time in the comics when he chimped out because Aang was running into situations that he had no idea how to deal with
Maybe Amon was onto something about the Avatar being outdated.
He was a commie >sees the glorious fire nations early stage imperialistic tendencies manifest in the outskirts of the earth kingdom as simple colonies, which would no doubt create several job opportunities and lead to industrialization >tard rages and assaults a nation’s leader
Bryke character assassinated him hard in the comics, which I refuse to acknowledge. His problem was that he couldn't see Sozin's betrayal coming because of their friendship. ATLA doesn't touch on how he feels about Sozin, but I refuse to believe he'd be so ass blasted about that betrayal that he acts like fricking Palpatine and constantly tells Aang to kill Zuko because they have a similar relationship.
>Korra had mastered 3 elements since she was a baby >Kyoshi is regarded as the strongest avatar ever >Yangchen was an insane bender too
When Raava was revealed they should have explained that female avatars are inherently stronger because they are the same gender as the avatar spirit, giving them a better connection to their bending. If the role of the avatar is all about bringing balance, the ending of season 2 should have been Korra absorbing Vaatu, the male spirit and missing half to not only power her even more, but also give more power to the male avatars of the cycle. This obviously means changing Vaatu so he isn't western world evil.
>Korra had mastered 3 elements since she was a baby
I's amazing how there's something like 5 avatar threads daily at the moment, but it's so fricking obvious that half of you gays didn't watch the show at all.
She didn't master 3 elements from when she was a baby. She mastered 3 of them by the time she was 17, after years of training. She just knew basic Water, Earth and Fire bending when she was like 4 or something.
>amazing how there's something like 5 avatar threads daily at the moment, but it's so fricking obvious that half of you gays didn't watch the show at all.
That's quite common here and everywhere else. People saying that Katara, Aang, Toph and so on mastered the elements at 14/12/12. Same people shit on Roku because he "took too long" to master all the other three elements
Hama should be higher up, bloodbending is OP and can only be countered by another waterbender. Yue might actually not be a joke either, as the moon spirit.
It's the hypothetical "benevolent dictator" problem. So you're all-powerful and all-wise and all-benevolent, great. What happens when you die? In Roku's case, a minimum of twelve years pass in which there's no strongman around keeping all the other dickheads in line. If he'd outlived Sozin, Azulon would have been the problem.
>Sozin actually ruled for about 20 years after he started the war, so he was about 82 when he started the war. Azulon (born shortly after the comet came) ruled for about 75 years and died at the age of 95.
So as far as i understand >Airbender Avatars
Pacifist peacebringers >Firebender Avatars
Fire Nation nationalists, give zero frick about anything than isn't Fire Nation stability >Earthbender Avatars
Violent psychopaths, their only solution is to destroy and kill the problem >Waterbender Avatars
Frick ups, if you live in time when Avatar is an Waterbender it's gonna suck
He allowed his personal attachments to stop him from doing his duty.
Roku has a massive ego problem. Bluntly shuts Sozin down at his wedding without any discussion. His era didn't have any major problems which made him a b***h
What about the Earth Kingdom's corruption with the Dai Li?
>What about the Earth Kingdom's corruption with the Dai Li?
Happened after his dead
roku did the hands off approach, he thought it would be best for all nations to govern themselves with him going around commanding them.
kyoshi was the same she preffered to stay on her island
>kyoshi was the same she preffered to stay on her island
Yeah while Chin conquered the entire Earth Kingdom and was about to overthrow the Earth King. Kyoshi was a moron
Kyoshi started it, and it got corrupted during the war
That was the water avatar before Korra.
Kuruk is the most punished avatars of all.

Unironic kino.

You might be onto something here.

Bringing him into the live action was one of its best decisions
In a sea of shitty decisions regarding the past Avatars, having more of Kuruk was the best.
didnt he have to deal with all the spiritual bs yangchen caused
Is Roku the worst Avatar in history?
>vanished for no reason
>Could've prevented the war, didn't

nah he's a good advisor and that 12 year old didnt end up dead thanks to his knowledge
i've got another candidate for that title
I unironically didn't watch Korra past the first episode
You made the right decision.
lucky guy
Unironically same. I still adore AtLA but I have to bullshit my way whenever people bring up Korra lore.
Good lad. You have a better sense for bullshit than most.

Forgot clip
>doesn't explain why he vanished
Roku was murdered by Sozin, anon. The Avatar that "vanished" is Aang.
He feels that way in hindsight. He left because the world was in balance and there were no conflicts with the spirit world. It wasn't his job to stop every war ever especially before the war even started. It's like killing politicians just because you think they might turn into hitler.

No. He's the best Avatar to have ever lived for contributing to her arrival in the world.

I want to know about the Dwarf Avatar.
For me it’s the b***h with no arms…
I wish to know more about the Dwarf, but they hide him.
Not his fault the writers cant decide on how the avatar state works.

Roku gets shitted on too hard. He did his job and stopped sozin. His only mistake was dying before sozin

It's kind of moronic. Roku lived in piece and had time to learn. the gang lived through adversity and and to learn from it.
Roku was also much better at it than they were.
The canon ATLA power ranking
>Kyoshi
Aaang Blanco vs El grande sovrano Fenix
Appa should be higher, like at B. Plus, don't forget that he is also an Airbender.
>Aang was never the last airbender
Hah, never thought about that. You're right though.
>Appa was an airbender
>Appa can fly
Did Appa give up all of his earthly desires?
Hama should be higher up, bloodbending is OP and can only be countered by another waterbender. Yue might actually not be a joke either, as the moon spirit.
The yin to her yang wiped out a fire nation fleet.

>Same as Iroh and Bumi
