Are you excited about the Avatar Universe, Cinemaphile? Isn't it both exciting and nostalgic how one of if not the best-animated franchises the West has created, is still this relevant after more than 10 years? Which project are you looking forward to the most?

That's all well and good, but I'll believe it when I see it.
I don’t expect any of these to be all the great tbh
I hope communist revolution occurs before 2024 and we realize there is no saving anyone in Los Angeles and just nuke it.
I hope LA gets nuked either way along with SF and SD. Then the remaining californians are all rednecks and it becomes south montana.
LA would be the new capital under communism
The thought of live action avater makes me cringe.
>That one little show from the 2000s will now be milked to death
Be glad western animation will finally be getting a decent action show since Korra
>Korra
>Decent
I think Korra was ok at best but the action was pretty good. I think the only cartoon that can stand next to it in terms of action was the TMNT
I'll give it that the animatio' is decent but it really doesn't come close to make up for the show destroying the setting entirely and the awful story telling.
True true
How did it destroy the setting exactly?
Not him but from what i can remember
>Ravaa
>Dark Avatar
>Spirit World and monsters redesigns
The main setting of that trash fire is fricking New York.
You could still tell a compelling story out of that if you shifted the focus towards living in harmony with nature even as technology and society improve. It's a message that's been done before don't get me wrong, but it'd still work if you wanted an Avatar in a more industrialized setting it's just Korra really sucked as a protagonist
The list is long anon get ready.
>Got rid of th ancient asian setting with steam punk
>Killed off all the avatars past lives
>Turned the avatar from the incarnation of the spirit of the world to some random dude that has a spirit inside him
>Bendings backstory was ruined by Wang now bending is superpowers given by tiger turtles instead of martial arts imitating nature
>Spirits now somehow can't cross over to the real world instead of being able to do it at will like in the original
>The spirit portals
>Spirits aren't animals and reflections of nature now they are just funny looking aliens
>Everything about Raava and her counterpart, it makes no sense and we had already a much better Ying Yang spirit duo
>Ari bendending coming back in mass just because, it ruins the tragedy of what happened to them
>Bending becoming much more mundane to the point fricking lighting bending is used to mass produce electricity
>generally making lightning bending super weak, it used to be a one hit guaranteed kill now people just brush it off
>Korra learns air bending just because and in general people learn bending just because in Wans story.
i cant understand how they fricked up this hard.
nearly everything regarding the original show was warped to shit. established lore, characters and settings, all warped to shit.
Ah yeah I forgot they character assassinated Aang and Toph as extremely bad uncaring parents and Toph as a bawd.
A'd the fricking giant mech and spirit laser and giant spirit avatar fights.
It's just sad how they destroyed every little thing.
No one's perfect, bro
Yeah but do you think Aang and Toph out of everyone in the group would be uncaring parents?
It's out of character hell they made Aang into a no fun serious dude, talk about a 180 turn
making lightning bending super weak, it used to be a one hit guaranteed kill now people just brush it off
I never got this why the hell did they go to lightening bending becoming a commodity when you have earth benders that could easily dig for coal or working with water benders to make make a turbine dam or something
Think about what the Avatar is in ATLA
-Thousands of past lives
-Uses all 4 elements
-Mediates between nations and the human/spirit worlds.
Now post Korra book 2
- No past lives, they made Korra look bad in comparison so they had to go
- Why do you need to master bending we have mecha and lasers now
- Nations get merged into one city; Spirits are everyone's problem now because Korra merged the dimensions.
In an effort to shake things up and make Korra memorable the showrunners killed off al the interesting concepts surrounding the role of the title character. Now the next book is rumored to just go full cyberpunk; why even bother with bending elements then?
every bending use northern shaolin moves except the very iconic stomp of earthbending. they fired the martial art sifu and it shows.
someone post the cowboy bebop comparison please.
>he doesn't actually watch cartoons
We've had some of the BEST serialized action toons come out in the last few years
>but I don't know them
Yeah because you're a moronic poser.
There's other western shows with good action other there, just not American.
Nice
I don't watch anime
>decent
>korra
Have you seen Arcane?
>now
Whoever's in control of this simulation should just pull the plug already.
Nick has nothing else besides Loud House and SpongeBob. Avatar is the only thing they have that older audiences like.
How does that hurt you? Just don't watch the new Avatar content. No one is deleting the original because they're putting new content out. You can put the original on repeat and watch it over and over again if you want.
All you whining about the Netflix adaptation you do realize that nothing will ruin Avatar (not even the movie did) as much as Korra did, right?
Correct Korra destroyed the setting itself.
It's unlikely there could be something more damaging.
No white people no watch
I will cancel my Netflix subscription the moment they release a life action Avatar.
Does everything have to be in phases?
Lets hope they have a better phase one than Marvel did a phase four.
Yes. I will be watching for she.
I'm just waiting to see how Momo and Appa look. That will make or break the show to me. After all they did say this show was the most expensive TV show humanity had ever created. Shit must look good
I hate D*sney so much
ATLA isn’t Disney, chud.
ATLA?
I thought the animated stuff was all complete separate from the Netflix movie, being made by the creators in their new studio after leaving Netflix.
>I thought the animated stuff was all complete separate from the Netflix movie
It is. It's coming to Paramount + i believe
So OP's pic is just kind of a dumb compilation then.
Not really, you can see the Avatar content coming to Netflci has NETFIX up there. The other projects are from Paramount and theaters
Right, but the pic would imply and MCU-like cohesiveness which just isn't there.
Wait 20 years after the last episode of a series to start making it a franchise and milking it
Why is Nick so fricking stupid. Im entirely convinced they didn’t know how popular ATLA was until it was put on Netflix a fee years ago some fricking how.
I'm sure they knew ATLA was popular. It was Korra they were scared about which is why it got such a shit deal. In a way i guess they were right considering the ratings were abysmal
Korra numbers probably got capped because people in general were just stopping watching television. Korra even on its worst still is above average when it comes down to cartoons, people only hate it because it fails to live up to it's predecessor and basically ruining the lore.
>In a way i guess they were right considering the ratings were abysmal
The Netflix rating were through the roof. Maybe if Nick didn't give Korra the metaphorical shaft...
I want my brown mommy and her GOAT supporting cast.
It'd be amazing if the new Earth Avatar went full Yangchen and murders everyone to fix the moronic inbred imperial line of the Earth Nation. Wu was a literal puppet surrounded by Republic City appointees that spent his life balkanizing the continent so RC could swing their dick into every negotiation as the wealthiest and most powerful city state.
>It'd be amazing if the new Earth Avatar went full Yangchen and murders everyone to fix the moronic inbred imperial line of the Earth Nation
What Imperial Line? Wu went full Puyi. There is no imperial family in the Earth Kingdom anymore.
>Westoids make an anime show
>It's the most popular thing they have ever done
Hmm
>oid
What a colossal homosexual, go back to touching yourself to 20 episodes of blonde haired men screaming to gain power.
Avatar isn't Cinemaphile, moron
Could bet one of my fingers they are going to make Katara black and only add blue eyes to the actress. Or that girl with white hair that totally not dies in the end of the first season.
>Could bet one of my fingers they are going to make Katara black and only add blue eyes to the actress.
We've had the cast list for a year. Katara's on the left.
Now's the part where you b***h out.
I remember seeing the casting and thinking that they chose a bung of giga Chads and Stacys to play the roles.
Except Aang.
>Sokka is white again
>Aang is too fricking young
>Katara looks Chinese
I swear how can they frick up this hard again? The show is right there
They are all Asian my dude.
But I do agree that Sokka and Katara should have been south east Asian for that tanned skin.
It's funny in a morbid way.
They likely know Korra was a trash fire that burned down the identity of the franchise itself.
But can't simply reedconne it as it would make SJWs and shippers(the only people that unironically seem to have enjoyed it) angry as hell.
South East Asians aren't a mixture of Indians and Chinks
this is a misnomer made by Dutch-French people
Sure but they do seem to be asians of a darker complexion in general.
well yeah but ethnicities are a little more complex than this guy is asian, black or white
but if you want to simplify things people would say that Indians are caucasian, so calling SEAsians that is just flat out wrong
>anime not made by the west is shit
confirmed
Isn’t the Netflix one going to be shit?
Well, it doesn't have Bryke on board. At this point that could be either a positive or negative. But then again the actors look like shit so
It's gonna be Wednesday on steroids
Take that any way you want
America made an 8/10 shonen in 2006, and has never been able to top themselves, so now they drag its corpse through the mud.
How exactly Avatar is a shounen? Shaoling showdown is more a shounen than av
Avatar is a soft seinen. Also, it was a 9/10. 10/10 shows don't exist
For me, it's Aang Con Pelo (Segunda Forma)
Japan made an 8/10 shonen in 1989, and they keep dragging its corpse through the mud 30+ years later
>another one of those series that deliberately sandbagged the last 10 years so that they could sell nostalgia to 40yos who 'remember how cool avatar was in 2005' and force their kids to like it too
Cool, I hate it.
Check your math again.
Hey, i grew up with Avatar like everyone else and i'm still 27
The median age of Cinemaphile in 2005 was 25, ergo 43 year olds like justin roiland loved it.
> sandbagged the last 10 years
>age of Cinemaphile in 2005 was 25
>43 year olds
>2027 is only 4 years away
>because of covid the first 3 years of the 2020s got wasted on travel bans and lockdowns and vaxx passes and economic meltdown
>first 3 years
its only been 2 weeks.
I hate it. How much Zucest will it have?
I doubt any
Worthless then.
it’s entirely possible that the live action series ends up being the best out of everything in this image
Honestly, I am just waiting to see how they resolve Azula's story and then dipping out.
im curious about adult team avatar but i dislike prequels so its only mild interest (can anything that directly lead to korra be good?)
cyberpunk earth avatar look good in essence but im certain they'll find a way to frick it up.
The next series featuring an Earth Avatar will be interesting. Especially because it will most likely be all straight due to the fact that people are allergic to homosexual men. Looking forward to seeing all the children of the cast in Korra and who knows, maybe we finally see someone related to fricking Sokka
lol, the straight avatar will be surrounded by ONLY strong women lesbians in side shave and will never get any. he will also be useless in his own show (even more than korra) and his team of strong females will do everything notable in his place.
is there an opposite of a Mary Sue? I feel like there is a woke character archetype where the male protagonist is insanely weak and borderline clinically moronic. he is usually surrounded by Mary Sues.
Studio Mir better animate the whole thing again.
>new earth avatar series
where the frick does Avatar go from Korra?
korra is the only avalable avatar spirit to commune with sooooo hopefully away from THAT.
>original animated series was great
>comics started off okay but went to shit fast
>live action movie killed any chance at a movie franchise over a decade ago
>sequel animated series was such a mess it lost a million viewers ever premiere and the final season had budget cuts and was only on online
>platinum game is mediocre at best
I've heard the novels are good but this franchise cursed.
>only the og show was great
>everything else sucks, it's mediocre or OK at best
>the shows by the old staff have all been lackluster
This shit is going to flop. No one cares after Korra. No one likes live-action. How are they going to appeal to netflix without violence and sex?
Rip in piss.
I'm probably one of the only people here who actually still liked Korra (despite the fact that yes season two was the worst and they fricked with some of the lore), but I loved seeing the world evolve into a more modern setting, I thought they did that aspect of it very well actually, felt like a natural progression. I really don't like how they're clearly milking the absolute frick out of it now tho, I'm curious about the new earth avatar series to see how the world evolves but I swear if they just turn it into more nostalgiabait and force in old characters instead of doing something new it'll kill my excitement.
>but I loved seeing the world evolve into a more modern setting
other Series/Franchises do it better than Avatar IMO but Avatar is probably unique for doing it as an animated show
>Natural
>Shitting Not!New York randomly into the setting
No.
The only thing I'm excited for is whatever it is that Flying Bark is animating for Avatar because it will look pretty
>spinoff 2026
better be the azula redemption we were promised or we riot
i have no hope for the netflix reboot, the show creator themselves already made clear that something was wrong amd netflix is going to do it bullshit job to woke evrything
Netflix wanted to make Zutara canon, they think we didn't see right through their shit after they tried to swap Katara and Sokka's ages
>creator themselves already made clear that something
It didn't take them too long to realize Netflix just gave them a title of writers and executive producers with no actual control.
Took the Cowboy Bebop creator a year after release to finally say something against the entire adaption.
You know, I think as someone studying to enter in the animation industry, my new goal right now is to work at Avatar Studios. If I do succeed I promise I'll fix Avatar's lore
Not to be a pessimist but just doing that would be likely the work of your entire carrer, you will have to contend against other writers and likely Bryke themselves and then convince a big studio to give you money for a reboot.
And this is a big simplification.
I was mostly joking, I'm content enough making storyboards and coming up with plots or even character designs. The lore is already fricked up beyond repair
>Netflix live action
The Shyamalan movie is going to look like a masterpiece by comparison.
I remember my dad liked the Shyamalan movie for some reason lol
Mine too he also likes Justice League. Honestly his taste leaves much to be desired
They're making a cinematic franchise out of something that's already fricking dead.
Korra already ruined everything. It's ALL GONE.
No, they will make it worse. We've reached the event horizon of franchises now where not even representation can save them in the eyes of the general population.
oh god plz no. don't tarnish the show even more. you can't recreate the spark the original show had, korra proved that. just fricking STAHP
Third's time the charm
>no spinoff about azula
don't care
>also no uncle iro spinoff
like why should I ever care?
Nice, 5 shows I can refuse to watch
I hope when they do an live action version of the Ember Island Players episode are they going to get white actors or other Asian actors or even actors that are fresh out of performance arts/acting school to play the performers of the Boy in the Iceberg while wearing Cosplay outfits from the original cartoon series or homemade style costumes of what the characters are going wear in the live action series?
Will people use cellphones for the next Avatar show? I mean they already had cards in Korra
They will have guns, bending will be practically obsolete
Well, it won't longer be in a kid's channel so it might be possible
