No
>nearly five-year run on the franchise
I just want it to be over and want Avengers comics to be good again, and to get more of the actual Avengers back in the book.
But I'm also worried about which one of their literal morons Marvel will replace Aaron with.
Just be lucky that Cates fell off the face of the planet for now. He's probably out of the running to take over. But if it's because of drugs I hope he gets help and gets better.
I kinda doubt it, ignoring whatever's going on in Cates's personal life by his own admission he is not good at writing team books and would rather just do Solo characters and he has enough clout to turn down writing books he doesn't want to at this point.
Unfortunately there's nobody in Marvel's 'talent pool' who would be an actually good choice. Ewing would probably be the least worst option, but getting continuity autist Ewing also means getting gay woke content Ewing.
>continuity autist
NOBODY WANTS THIS IN COMICS! GRANT MORRISON WAS A BABA BOOEY WHEN HE DID THIS WITH BATMAN
your shit gimmick is never getting over
Got your b***h ass to respond though. DON'T BE A BABA BOOEY!!!! STOP TAKING FORKS AND JAMMING THEM INTO YOUR EYES AND EARS!!! YOU'RE SCARING YOUR MOTHER!
Crime comic writers getting cape books was a mistake.
Barbara?
>Crime comic writers getting cape books was a mistake.
I wouldn't be absolute about it, we did get Brubaker's Captain America. Even Bendis would've been OK if he was strictly limited to books about Daredevil or Norman Osborn.
Brubaker's Cap is ok but there are times when I kind of think
has a point.
Bendis should've been given a Daredevil MAX book (set in its own universe) instead so that he wouldn't have to be hamstrung by 616 or Ultimate
Brubaker's Cap and Bendis' Daredevil and Spider-Man (as well as Azzarello and Aaron's trash) are precisely what I had in mind when I said it was a mistake.
>we did get Brubaker's Captain America
This isn't the positive you think it is.
Hey.
Frick you.
Bucky managed to stay dead for 40 years, and Brubaker brought him back in a way that made for one worthwhile story, and in doing so killed off Nomad, who was a compelling and fun character on his own. Name another hero who went around with a toddler baby bjorned to their chest.
Rucka and brubaker's Batc**t was a DUD , Morrison made batman relevant again.
I do. Avengers Forever is one of my favorite books specifically because of how much Busiek and Stern mined continuity. I'd love Ewing to take over Avengers. If he could bring Javier Rodriguez along for the art, even better.
Continuity is the reason why there is a mainstream universe, elsewords/non canon comics for people that don't like it.
Frankly I don't think anything short of the resurrection of Mark Gruenwald could save Marvel. In a shared universe you need continuity obsessives in order for the universe to work.
Fantastical fiction does not work if it doesn't obey it's own rules.
I think enough editors still cared about canon and continuity that Marvel were trying to hold it together for the rest of the 90s, but Quesada turned Marvel into an environment where writers could disregard continuity and do whatever they wanted, and it's only kept getting worse ever since, Aaron's Avengers is the culmination of it, rewriting vast chunks of Marvel history and lore to serve his own stupid stories.
The counter to whatever Aaron's been doing is that beyond vague references to the Avengers living in a dead celestial no one acknowledges that his run exists. It can effectively be treated as non-canon
It's certainly going to be interesting to see if anyone else at Marvel cares enough to do a continuity clean-up after he's gone, and throw out a lot of his retcons or re-work them to try and make them fit better, or if everyone will just keep ignoring it all.
I can't believe there was an event focused around that dead Celestial and it still didn't put an end to the Avengers living in it.
After gotg, I don't think that Cates wants to touch a team book for a long time.
Yeah apparently he had a bad experience with Guardians and I think he did say he was going to stick with solos. I wonder what happened.
It's going to be one of the usual suspects, Aaron will probably go to Guardians and stink up that comic. He did say he wanted to do that comic at one point. I guess as long as he stays away from Nova and Quasar I couldn't care less.
I doubt Ewing wants to do Avengers, he's already done Avengers comics and getting to write Avenger characters (Ant-Man and Wasp through the minis) and more than likely he already has written the Avenger characters he wanted to write. Right now he seems to be into his X-Men shit and wants to keep writing cosmic shenanigans.
>Aaron will probably go to Guardians
damn it anon I forgot the GOTG had a relaunch in March whoever takes over that book going to frick it up
Is going to be Slott
I can see an Avengers run by Slott wouldn't be good, but would at least feature more classic Avengers characters and villains than the average Avengers run over the last 20 years.
Mighty Avengers was good
No it wasn't. It was good in relation to the shitshow that was Bendisvengers but on its own merits it's really not any good and largely forgettable outside of the scene where Eternity declaires that Pym is Scientist Supreme. Which isn't memorable because it's some cool Pym scene but because it's the type of stupid, childish "NUH UH THE THING I'M WRITING IS THE SUPER BESTEST" shit Slott's always done.
Yeah, at least we would see Pymm , Wonderman and black knight in the main team altough Slott would only write decently the first one
Wonderman and Black Knight aren't exactly a priority compared with getting Hank, Jan, Pietro, Wanda, Vision and Hawkeye back as Avengers.
As things are now, you'd get Black Knight's black daughter and be told to like it. Wonderman will probably get a big push in time for his show, someone in Marvel editorial likes him, probably Brevoort.
I'd rather get Wonder Man or Dane back on the team over Jan honestly
I'd rather be looking at Jan than either of them when I'm reading Avengers. Dane's status quo is a mess nobody likes right now, and turning Wonder Man into a pacifist made him a worthless addition to any team, taking up space that could have gone to a character who might do something instead.
What happened to Cates?
This. Aaron's run is awful. I liked Bendis's New Avengers more than this shit. (And I didn't like Bendis's New Avengers)
The only person there I would want doing it is Jim Zub, he does a pretty good job on team books and I know he has soft spots for some of the more classic Avengers. That or the guy doing Savage Avengers isn't too bad but he's kind of a an unknown at the moment. I feel like someone like Duggan would get it and the trend of mediocrity would continue.
I don't want Zub on Avengers at all. His Champions was shit and so is his current Thunderbolts book
You're an awful writer, Jim. Please go away.
Bro, there's a good chance that Avengers is taken over by someone like Gerry Duggan. It's not getting any better.
so this ends in March or April then? wonder who going to write Avengers afterward. we know we are getting another Uncanny Avengers comic in 2023 but I do wonder who will be writing the main avengers book
Who keeps buying this?? His Avengers run is officially longer than Scalped now despite sucking major dong
Masochists
I did buy a recent issue just for this Wanda cover variant, but the story was just more multiverse garbage, and Aaron presenting Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Carol and T'Challa as the essential core building blocks of the Avengers.
>no proper merged Sentry returning
yawn
What did avengers fan do to deserve this?
They didn't gatekeep the Bendis Avengers fans
So who is avenger prime. My guess is its hank. 616 hank
What makes a good Avengers run?
More women with big boobies
Never forget what they took from you.
Namor just murdering a bunch of Mephistos is very funny.
I hated most of Aaron's Avengers but I have liked all the post-Heroes Reborn stuff. Do hope whoever takes over next makes it a more classic team.
I don't think that's Namor, but speaking of the guy, Aaron really just repeated his 80's arc where he loses his kingdom for being a shit ruler and than joins the avengers, only for him to do nothing. Now his status quo is gonna be fricked for years.
You’re right! Those ears aren’t pointy.
Maybe we’ll get some good Namor stuff off the MCU bump
I have no idea what's going on in Avengers' books, but every time I hear some of it it always sounds moronic.. Aaron is just trying too hard to be different for the sake of being different.
