This was the first movie I bought on dvd. One of the special features was a gallery with concept art and all the cover art for the Aliens vs Predator comics.
Explain how it's bad. I can say The Thing is bad, and every critic in 1982 would agree with me. I can say Alien is trash and proves audiences are brain damaged for liking it, and lots of people would agree back in the day.
What is wrong with AvP? What stops it being a "oh, people got it wrong" pulpy classic?
>but knew something was wrong.
Such as? It's a very well made film with great visual design, memorable characters, the best practical effects you've ever seen, and a story where cool shit keeps happening followed by COOLER shit.
>having one xeno waste two predators was fricking bullshit!
It was clever. Xenomorphs are often the cannon fodder of the franchise but showing how one can actually pose a threat to the Preds makes sense as why they're the most dangerous prey. I kinda wish they had more than 3 Predators though.
>cutting less than a minute of dialogue completely ruins your film for half your audience
It was still pretty obvious but some people never figured it out

By standards of the day it was bad. I would take it over the vast majority of things produced in current year, however, as well as over the various alien and predator movies that come afterwards.
I have a fricking embarassing confession. This movie, for some reason, scares the shit about me. Idk, something about the pyramid setting, the lighting, that whenever I watch it I would often get nightmares where I'm in the similar-looking pyramid and caught between the battle between these two fatherfrickers.
Which is embarassing because I watched the other movies and while they have their moments they never gave me nightmares. But this one fricking movie always does. I thought it was just childhood trauma but last year I tried to watch a clip again (and enjoyed it) but later on the night I had another dream about being in the pyramid again.
Fak you mate I'm certain you were caught between the crossfires as well. Pretty sure your head got stabbed by both the wristblades and the tail at the same time.
Requiem was the one that dis-proportionally terrified me; maybe it was because I watched it at night in the middle of a storm. The Jurassic Park book also freaked me out even though the movie didn't, but at least for that one I have the excuse of being an actual kid when I read it.
Hmm I never actually watched Requiem, I do wonder if it will terrify me even more because of the suburban setting.
When I was young and watched Independence Day and then the next weekend we're going on a trip by train and I was paranoid as frick, as the train move I was under the delusion that the City Destroyer is already destroying the city and the train was our only way of outrunning the blast. Because I remember inside the train I was hoping the train would move fast enough and my mom looked at me and was like "What the frick are you thinking"
Biggest problem is being a PG13 Alien/Predator movie. Frick that.
Also didn't like the noob preds.
Otherwise I liked it. Also the black woman protaconist is female/black character done right. Imagine spending more than a decade trying to force muh women/muh blacks on entertainment just to be mogged hard by AvP
Who panned this? This is a good movie.
AvP's biggest strength, a sense of fun, was looked down on by people who took Aliens and Predators SUPER SERIOUSLY.
I always loved the movie, but it was tough back in 2004 because so many shat on it.
I forgot it had a black female protag, but she was hot so it worked lol
in the grand scheme of things, it was not good.

>Its a good film.
No, it's really not.
your really not
It’s an awesome concept and there are some good parts but they are too few to make it interesting
Capeshit Predators
It's bad, it just might feel relatively good to you because it meets some minimum standards of competence and is watchable compared to its sequel

Acting is pretty bad at times, a lot of the story doesn't make sense, and I did not care for the shape shifting pyramid
What doesn't make sense?
were they right?
No. We always win.
Crossovers are the lowest form of conversation.
I remember being 12 and being hyped for it. Saw it. I didn’t understand movies yet but knew something was wrong.
same confused feeling happened again with transformers 2.
Wait, it was in 2004?? Shit. I was actually 9 when I saw it.

I'll never forget it for the pyramid scene, this was so fricking cool. Turns out the predators were the ancient alien gods we worshipped.
How did they build them though?
No it's not. Letting go of all the ancient aliens stuff, having one xeno waste two predators was fricking bullshit!
Seething Predator fan.
Why would the predators hunt aliens if they weren't dangerous?

Figure what out?
Nerds were a mistake.

first 3/4 at least, the whole part of the girl becoming predator best fren was cringey
>the whole part of the girl becoming predator best fren was cringey
That's like the most iconic part tho.

tonight i'm taking you back

you don’t have to say fricking every other word
AvP Weyland is an interesting character. His goals are a lot more practical, and less stupid, than Prometheus Weyland.
