Are there any films from past decades that are anything like Ghibli (not just weeb shit)? Old cell animation focusing on beauty, 'warm and emotional' orchestral type music, etc. ? I feel like there should be tons of examples but I can't think of any. Ghibli feels like childhood but I didn't watch any weeb shit whatsoever when I was a kid. I think I saw Spirited Away when I was like 15.
I don't know man. >warm emotional
Aren't they all >orchestral
As opposed to J-pop vocal I suppose. Then no. They were all led by vocalist J-pop songs.
People want the next Miyazaki-Ghibli gig. And there were studios like Hosoda and Shinkai competing for the title. But it seems you don't take them as the old man's replacement. Well.
Lol Pom Poko has one of the best endings, probably because it's not Miyazaki. Grave of the Fireflies and Arrietty have good endings too, again not Miyazaki.
Spirited Away, Howls Moving Castle and Ponyo have abysmal endings. Like so bad they leave a a terrible taste in my mouth despite being otherwise decent films.
>Howl's Moving Castle >oops, looks like I'm the prince that's caused this war to go on in the background thanks for saving me, guess I'll just frick off now! >I forgot to tell you guys my bond with calcifer was meaningless and could be broken at any time!
cartoons are for children i don't want my kids watching troon toons i would rather it be some boring shit that makes them use their imagination for good
One character in one film not even played glamorously but with a mustache is enough to call him a troony enabler for you guys? Its an actual subculture there you know.
>japanese dub of western cartoon >"haha you gotta check out this wacky dub bro, it's the best!" >western dub of japanese cartoon >"HOW FRICKING DARE YOU DESECRATE THE VISION AND INTEGRITY OF THESE MODERN ARTISTIC MASTERS REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
>>only worth watching for the art
and the girls
and music
...for a period in the past that was...

what?
Mononoke, Nausicaa and Laputa have decent enough plots, especially Mononoke does a lot of things right.
And meandering stories that rarely have a satisfactory conclusion or even any meaning
Earthsea, Ponyo, Pom Poko etc.

Even Mononoke's weakest part is its ending.

Honestly Satoshi Kon deserves the crown far more. But Americans need their asiatic toons to be soft as melted butter to gain mainatream acceptance.

what would kon be making today? probably another troony film like the hobo one.

How come none of their films have characters with any personality or character traits and it's praised for it?
>Patrick Stewart
>Uma Thurman
>Mark Hamill
bad
>Listening to dubs
>imblying
I unfortunately went to a dubbed showing by accident

Who are you quoting?
Why do I love Arrietty so much? I think its criminally underrated.
Am I gay?
Barely even for that.
Ni No Kuni was such a fricking disappointment.
Is it gheebly or jeebly?
Gibbly
Jiburi
Art and music, I rewatched Nausicaa and it does feel like a case of wasted potential plot wise but that ost is amazing and the art is still good
My Neighbors The Yamada is still one of the comfiest films ever made and makes my heart feel warm again
>worth watching
Lost me there
