You know how kids just fail to grasp lyrics or phrases, make up words or sounds they THINK they heard, and use those?
That's how I am with the bananas in pyjamas theme past this point. I legit cannot tell you what the words are.

This is probably a common occurrence otherwise you'd see more people talk about how ominous the last few lines are.

I don't have the book on me so I can't remember all the specifics but I recall in Eric Campbell's memoirs regarding his time working in Russia during the 90s the Bananas in Pyjamas saw brief popularity over there, and even visited. There was even some sort of incident with a break in where the costumes were stolen and ransomed... or something like that. Wish I could remember the details in the book (Absurdistan. Eric Campbell one not the other one) but I gave it to my Dad years ago and he lost it.

"The crowd followed B1 and B2 as they walked into the square and
headed towards Lenin’s tomb. The spooks took just seconds to pounce. Two
plainclothes police blocked the way, demanding to know who the bananas
were and what they were doing there.
‘There is no problem, they are characters from a children’s television
show,’ Igor explained. ‘They are just meeting some fans.’
‘Zapresheno!‘ the first policeman shouted, ‘Forbidden. You do not have
            authorisation.’
For a moment it seemed B1 and B2 might be hauled in for interrogation,
but we quickly agreed to leave and never return"
B1 and B2 dancing in front of Lenin's corpse sounds so fricking hilarious to me.

I dressed up like B1 for a Halloween party once. I went around asking girls if they wanted to 2b my b2. It didn't work. At some point i took the head piece of because someone thought i was doing yellowface. I scrubbed of the yellow from my hands but then someone else got on my case for dressing like the boy in the stripped pajama. At least people liked the banana bread i brought.

Something about this makes it even more unsettling than the 90s intro. The lack of identifying features make it feel like two armies going to war with each other. With what they had to work with the show did a good job giving the characters personallity and life.
