> Fuches > Had a gunfight with a dozen soldiers right next to Barry and Sally's son > By the way, here's your son Barry. I have a big heart.
Barry really is a moron.
Oh yeah he quit lying to himself and became a kingpin because he got beat up in prison. Truly a great arc.

Don't be so stupid.
Fuches has always been good at adapting to things. When the Chechens caught him, he learned how to be useful to them. In prison he just adapted to the new conditions and used them to find Barry. But the only thing Fuches wanted was for Barry to think he was a good man. That's what he was trying to tell Hank. Hank was lying to himself. Fuches wasn't.
Anonymous
Oh so Fuches wanted Barry to
think he was a good person by alternating between wanting to be his father and wanting to kill him pretty much every other episode as the plot needed, most recently by becoming a literal murderer who put his wife and child in the middle of a gun fight? You can try and create character motivations out of thin air like the writers of this show but we both know it’s bad writing plain and simple.

Fuches being volatile IS good writing you stupid frick. I seriously can not even imagine how boring your idea of a "well written character" is.

How about one with clear and consistent motivations who doesn’t frick off to a farm for a year and then come back to kill Barry and then decides he loves him but then decides he wants to kill him again but then saves him and then gets beat up and somehow gains respect of a whole prison for no reason and becomes a murderous psychopath who is actually supposed to be the voice of reason after an entire lifetime of being a spineless slimy frick. It’s called consistent character motivation.
Anonymous
He fricked off to that farm, found happiness, and pissed it away because he was blinded by his drive to kill barry.
Then the show had this exact thing happen a second time , to really drive the point home, for comedic effect.
What about that is not a clear and consistent motivation? He loves Barry and he's a narcissistic monster.

Anonymous
>I love Barry >I’m gonna kill Barry >I love Barry >I’m gonna kill Barry
How is that inconsistent? I dunno figure it out. And they did it more than twice throughout the show to the point where it became extremely tedious. Fuches had no point on the show and would just hang around and change how he felt based on what the plot needed to happen.

Man, fuches is a caricature for sure, like, they all are, but I feel like you're being purposely obtuse if you don't look at the ideological makeup of a character like fuches and understand the pingponging nature of his and Barry's relationship immediately
Idk tho. Maybe it's just cause I'm so smart that it's incredibly easy for me to understand the range of human emotion or somethin

Yeah idk I never found it weird, Fuches has a weird relationship with Barry where he thinks of him like a tool and like his son. It’s this weird conflict he has that defines his character. He is constantly flip flopping on Barry, but it makes sense with their weird history together.

Yeah that Fuches he’s just so weird, y’know? Sometimes he goes away and lives on a farm for a year, sometimes he randomly becomes a kingpin! Such a weirdo! I wonder if he’s gonna wanna kill Barry or save him this episode, you never know with that weirdo!

>it just is because I say it is
I think a predictable character is bad writing.
Barry quit lying to himself, allowing his death in a universe that seemed committed to keeping him alive until he accomplished that
Fuches literally has a monologs dedicated entirely to coming to terms with his true self. He escapes the show on the best terms.
Sally genuinely apologizes to her son, tells him the truth, and tells barry to turn himself in. She is allowed another life where she gets to play a part for the remainder of her life, just under safer and calmer pretenses
Hank admits that he has never forgiven himself for Cristobal's death and in a moment of despair chooses violence instead of acceptance. He dies for it
Gene has a chance to set the public record straight and mete out true justice and opts for petty revenge instead, and has his reputation destroyed as a result
Am I pretentious I'm sorry I just enjoy television shows
>Barry quit lying to himself, allowing his death
it's not like he allowed himself to get killed, gene had the jump on him. i don't think barry ever stopped lying to himself, in the end he told tom to call the cops just because his family had left and he didn't really have anything else to do, that's not exactly a noble sacrifice
agree with the rest. the gene stuff especially i hadn't thought of in that way but it makes a lot of sense
12 months ago
Anonymous
Yeah I'm not saying he allowed himself to die, I'm saying the show's universe pinpointed the precise moment he feels genuine remorse and chooses the right thing, after a couple more scenes where they he adamantly refuses to do just to really hammer it in, to kill him, to illustrate this theme

I'm very high this is a mess sorry hope my point stands
Yes you are pretentious. You are applying meaning to meaningless drivel. Barry is a flip flopping moronic psychotic in the past season, anything he says and does has no weight at all. Gene has no chance of being let of the hook in the context of the narrative and is also a true innocent who is punished for what, being a narcissist in Hollywood? Fuches never had a true self on the show and it sure as shit wasn’t “The Raven”, cheating with a time jump doesn’t make the character somehow have substance. Hank dies because Fuches decides to shoot him because it’s the end of the show and they have to wrap it up somehow. It’s empty nothingness.

pretty much this. I dont it was a great tv show. It gaf 1 memorable episode imo when they were driving around at night. the rest were good but not great. I think it was an ok ending, certainly not terrible but it felt like they didn't really know how to finish it properly so they set up this timejump, gave everyone new motivations quickly and closed it off from there

>You are applying meaning to meaningless drivel.
I'm I moronic or does the show transition from a dark comedy to some kind of pretentious drama, obviously Hader's vanity project trying to be big brained?
>Hank admits that he has never forgiven himself for Cristobal's death and in a moment of despair chooses violence instead of acceptance. He dies for it
Fuches was the one who initiated the violence though, by shooting Hank?

What the frick? Fuches WANTED the shooting because he knew Barry knew Hank kidnapped his kid. He didn't. He wanted to provoke Hank into a reaction so everyone would shoot each other and he would take Barry's son out to Barry.
Pretty solid analysis. But I think Hanks ending wasn’t really that bad. He wants to die to be with Christobel. He dies holding his hand and he’ll finally be at peace for the awful thing he did. Likewise Barry’s death sets him free, his wife and kid are free to live a good life and his reputation is saved by the accidental framing of gene. If he had lived and turned himself in, it wouldn’t have worked out as well for his family

>If he had lived and turned himself in, it wouldn’t have worked out as well for his family
Exactly. Alive barry would never measure up to dead hero Barry ironically.
The finale is crap from under a street dog suffering from diarrhea.
Here's my finale:
Sally dies in a gunfight. Fuches takes Barry's son and trains him to be an assassin (the next Barry). After all, Fuches needs something to live on, and the son repeats always his father's way.
Cousineau kills Barry and goes to jail.
So I’m currently on s3. Am I the only one who thinks Barry’s girlfriend is a total c**t? It seems like the show wants me to believe she’s a good person
Not him, but I've said it before that the daughter character on Joplin is probably the worst thing this show has done and she leaves a pretty big stain on S3.
I think you are right. I belive Hader has expressed (his) frustration with audiences being more unsympathetic to Sally than to Barry. No doubt contributing to the ending for barry.
I just realized though that Sally did absolutely nothing in the final season to redeem herself. Weird shit. At least she didn't get a perfect ending
>I think you are right. I belive Hader has expressed (his) frustration with audiences being more unsympathetic to Sally than to Barry
The problem I think is that they aren’t smart enough to realise that most audiences DO NOT know somebody who is a hitman or murderer. So seeing them do it on screen is just kind of cool or easy to disassociate with them doing other stuff
Sally being a b***h. Manipulating people. Emotionally abusing them etc. Literally everybody knows someone like that
Of course people would prefer mild mannered polite barry to sally despite the murdering. He even feels bad about it. When does sally ever half self reflection on how bad she is?
>I belive Hader has expressed (his) frustration with audiences being more unsympathetic to Sally than to Barry
Love what Hader is doing but I can't stand these s.oyfits he has. Sally's actress is just way too good at portraying an unhinged woman and a lot of people watching this show have had interactions with women like that. >be part comedy >Barry always saying funny stuff >people like the funny guy despite him being a murderer
>I belive Hader has expressed (his) frustration with audiences being more unsympathetic to Sally than to Barry.
He might have changed his mind about this, cause season 4 seems to double down on her awfulness with child abuse/neglect, reckless behavior and alcoholism, apparently she was supposed to even cheat on barry and frick that guy in the bathroom before choking him.
She's supposed to be a total c**t, and is only "good" by process of elimination because the other main characters are: >hitman >charismatic career criminal >lying, manipulating handler >washed up old actor swindling his students
She's so abrasive and self centered that other characters come across better than her even though they're objectively less moral.
i hated the direction this season went with the time skip and everything after it, but that said this was a decent finale. obviously there are a million abandoned threads that were never going to get resolved anyway, i just mean given what the rest of the season built up, the finale itself was alright.
hank's ending was good. barry getting killed by gene was good. i don't know how i feel about barry becoming a posthumous hero while gene became the villain just because gene took barry's hush money. i don't feel like barry really deserved the redemption just because 30 seconds before his death he told tom to call the cops. fuches's ending was kind of dumb but idk what else they were going to do with the character. why did he even want to see barry? did seeing his son change his mind about killing barry or did he never want to kill barry in the first place?
Stephen Root said Fuches’s immediate instinct is always to kill Barry but can never do it. His take was that, even without the kid there, Fuches wouldn’t have been able to do it.
Unironically, this is where the show started to lose me. It became way too improbable. if it actually went full fantastical after that episode, I would give it respect.
>if it actually went full fantastical after that episode, I would give it respect.
Yeah, like an actual john wick hotel, or barry becomes an A-lister who does hiss own stunts.
is HBO finished? They have been the last bastion of good scripted tv shows, The Last of us was meh, Succession and Barry didn't stick the landing, The plumber show is boring as frick. All there is too look foreword is How to With John Wilson
I think these overrated shows ending on wet farts is a perfect final nail in the coffin for HBO, even if it died a little while ago. John Wilson sucks shit too.
It's a shitposting board but it's hard to find places where thoughtful discussion takes place online now so i kinda just sieve through bait like that till someone starts talking about the show in a way I like
Obviously EVERYONE didn't need to make a return but >No confrontation between Barry and Jim Moss >Albert never comes back despite a national manhunt after Barry + FBI before that make a plea deal with him. You would think Albert would want to be involved >Chris wife is never heard of since the poisoning attempt. You would think she would talk to the authorities at some point, especially after Barry is outed as an assassin
Any other completed ignored plot developments that would have been natural to touch upon?
I have to admit I was surprised movie-Sally wasn't played by that woman who she couched to be a superheroine.
In general, the time skip was a mistake. In of itself the finale was completely fine, mediocre. Not great, but not so bad it leaves a stench either. Forgettable maybe.
Kinda seals how this show was so based in a kind of magical realism and fantastical ideas when you realise
>Barry escapes countless events where he should have died by all logic >dies from some failed Hollywood actor with no training shooting him with a prop gun
Same with Fuches being given multiple chances to settle down with beautiful women in peaceful farms but choosing revenge and evil. Until now where he’s basically the devil
Everything is midwit for you. The punchline is that you can't even elaborate anything.
>implying im an anon you already replied to
Taking the bait and thinking there is anything actually portraying a higher power in this show is borderline moronic. Religion is being used for "muh only truely wicked people can turn to God" and "only stupid psychos believe in God" tropes. Its tired, hack, leftwing writer bullshit. The reason Barry is able to survive all those scenarios is because ITS NOT REAL. Its called protagonists luck, hes able to do those things because they need him to for there to be a show. Its like you morons don't even watch Cinemaphile

The only message I got is that Hader forgot how to keep the comedy part of dark comedy.

I thank you for admitting you are wrong and I was right.
You think Barry surviving the countless attempts to kill him, to the point he’s poisoned and guaranteed to die, only for the father of Ryan Madison to save him (the one victim he never actually killed, unknown to him) is some big coincidence?
Damn. I'm actually literally Bill Hader and I didn't even realize we did this until you said that. LOL. Thanks for watching chuds. I got paid and I'm making kinos now while your sweaty fingers type bullshit better than what I wrote for HBO the last couple years.
Barry is a highly effective killer. He is a natural at killing even. You also have to consider that real life sometimes the "wrong" people die. Children. Innocent people in general. The series addresses that issue through absurdity. Sometimes using comedy, sometimes tragedy. The truth is that there are people in this world who "deserve" to die but are still biting the roots of the earth. Barry is objectively an evil that must be purged, but he is the predator at the top of the food chain. The only thing that could finally drive him out was his Achilles heel, the father figure in whom he sought for a time his own redemption.
I'm Bill Hader and that is just simply not true. Barry is a stupid cuck from Ohio. Sally is better at killing than him by the end of the series.

Shut up, Bill.
Being a natural killer doesn’t explain him just having bullets miss him or not dying from poison thanks to a coincidence
Because life itself is absurd sometimes. There are extremely fortunate people who commit nefarious acts all their lives and NEVER receive just retribution for their sins. There are innocent people who never hurt anyone and die in horrible ways. This world has the strange peculiarity of hurting indiscriminately as well as protecting or favoring amoral and sociopathic human beings for incomprehensible reasons.
Barry's journey was partially fueled by that blind energy, the same energy that achieved TOTAL RAVEN VICTORY, leaves Sally alive and well and punished Gene under false evidence. We could speculate the idea of a grand schemer within Barry's universe. It's also valid, but that idea doesn't appeal to me mostly because it speaks of an arbitrary God who disposes of human life as one who washes his hands or goes shopping.

it's too bad they couldn't actually get DDL and Mark Wahlberg for the movie. like i know that was just a lie from the actor working for the cops and the actual movie was just some action garbage but still, would've been kino
you would think they could have gotten SOME other recognizeable actor for the fake movie. I mean, they got Jon Hamm for a cameo once. It would have helped to sell the lie
you would think they could have gotten SOME other recognizeable actor for the fake movie. I mean, they got Jon Hamm for a cameo once. It would have helped to sell the lie
The movie was made like 16 years after Barry fled
Any actor we know would be too old for the parts by now
that's a silly justification if you ask me, which would not come into play at the real life writers room. Besides, what gave you the impression the movie had just come out? It was in early development 8 years ago and they were watching it at someone's home, sounded to me like the movie had come out a long time ago and Sally had never allowed her son to see it. I could have missed something though.
i don't think the show has ever had any frame of reference for when it takes place except sometime after the way in afghanistan started. it's plausible that season 1 took place in the mid 2000s, some time passes between each season, then the mid-season 4 timeskip is like mid-2010s and the finale ends in 2023
Albert took the acting class a few years before Barry and had a pretty bad experience with Mr. Cousineau then. He was fine to just let him take the heat.
Albert actively chose to let Barry go because Barry saved his life years prior, offering him a chance at redemption. He doesn't want Barry's life to be ruined because Albert got a second chance at life thanks to him, which is why he chose to walk away.
I'm surprised we didn't get an arc with Barry setting up an acting class in jail. Then again, we would have needed one more season for that, maybe. Or no timeskip.
So sally is still a raging narcissist and a terrible mother, glad she forced to live the life of a small town high school drama teacher who will only be remembered as the victim and the girlfriend of a hero, her own person hell. Her being weary of men and using her son for validation was the cherry on top, she really deserves her fate.
She was manipulating Barry to to confess to get him out of her life, when he initially refuses she bolts with the kid, she never intended to take responsibility for her own crimes
I liked that they foreshadowed the audience members taking her side and treating her like the victim, with her boss treating her like an angel who can do wrong cause she's a woman.
An interview with the sally actress had her saying that she asked Hader about his and he just said she tried and no one believed her because she was unhinged.
> Barry, you have to turn yourself in... Forget that you had a family, a son. Your son will forever know you as a murderer and a criminal. But this is what you must do. Cousensau will go to jail because of you. > Barry is killed > Oh, nevermind. Let the old prick go to jail.
Here's a little plot hole i don't think anyone has brought up before, but how does Sally have Cousineau's phone number? She is able to contact him, but a previous episode establishes he got a new number.
Did I miss something?
It was "fine" for what they have left to work with I guess. What I don't understand is for a show that had a lot of clever writing behind it they fall for the trap of having their female main character escape all blame for the things she did, in a show about personal responsibility.
Just finished the finale this minute. I don’t know what the hell happened to this show. Season 3 really fricked it all up. I mean it was “watchable” I guess but all the original appeal of the show had completely vanished by the end.
yeah season 3 was when Hader got full control and drove it off the deep end. Season 4 is a wankfest of ideas that were poorly thought out. in a better writers scenario the ending with Barry dying and getting remembered as a hero would be amazing but its was so thrown together the tension never got to a good point. Also Barry went full moron this season and in 1/2 he was naive but still a competent killer
Season 3 was getting somewhere and they dropped it all this season. It feels convoluted and messy. I honestly thought there was 14 episodes this season for some reason. What a waste. Whole season should’ve been set in the prison
It's just people repeating what others say on here. It's annoying bullshit. Season 3 becomes a masterpiece when you actually watch it and realize it's not the worst single season of a show in television history like anons pretend it is.
It's hysterical how these people who have meltdowns about Sally want to tell others the objective quality of the show.
It's either people shitposting or narcissists who haven't realized what they are yet and don't understand how to watch television shows. Barry had a perfect run. Might be my favorite television show ever. Can't believe it
>Sally lives in her own personal hell >Barry achieves redemption seconds before dying and the univers potrays him as a tragedic hero >Gene got arrested for lige because he don't accept all of his bullshit >THE RAVEN wins by fawless victory because he accepted himself >Hank dies in a bittersweet way after he finally accepted he killed his mover
Great ending, i wish the episode was longer or the season Much longer because it felt rushed... Am i the only one who thinks this show has a hard commentary about christianity
Honestly though, the entire ending scene with John smiling before cutting to credits was actually pretty kino.
Granted it doesn't really explain anything or why no one went forward with the truth, but whatever. I guess it's also just to point out that we make our own realities just to be more comfortable. Sally admitted to John that they were murderers, but I'm sure he accepts that his father was a hero now.
I feel like the show ended up having about as much sympathy as you can for its 'empty headed know nothing dumbfrick from Ohio gets manipulated into being evil and has a schizophrenic breakdown as a result' main character
Every active service member that participated in any "war" in the last decades is literally a murderer for hire, a ZOG mercenary that hasn't fought for a moral right in his entire life.
You don't have to disagree about everything with "libshits" just because of who they are.
Murdering sub-80 iq sandBlack folk that live in mud huts and ride camels, just to appease the israelite massa and then make movies about it like you are a hero is literal subhuman behavior.
The whole movie was hilarious. People can say whatever they want about the last seasons but I can't remember the last time I have been satisfied with a show ending as much as I did with this one.
eh, barry got off the chair and the drug and he was still so fricked up he slept the whole day at the place. jim probably knew barry would be down for the day, but did not expect to unearth information that would keep him away for longer, so he had no contingency plans
I thought it was Gene? He knew Barry was a hitman. He told him the first night they met. Then he invited Harry to his cabin to kill that detective after she found the drugs and kills the chechnyen guy at Genes theatre
Why are creators so antagonistic toward the people who enjoy things about their work that they're "not supposed to"? What's the obsession with subverting expectations, not giving them what they want? Frick Hader.
>What's the obsession with subverting expectations, not giving them what they want?
I have no idea what yoy expected, but I got exactly what I wanted. Barry getting away with everything he did.
>Barry getting away with everything he did.
I don't get it. Barry is a murderer and he has made the lives of the people who cared for him a living hell.
I don't think that, at any time, the writers were thinking about how to end the show with your specific expectations in mind, nor do I think they took anybody else's expectations into account when thinking about how to end this show.
Don't listen to the seething replies you got. The answer is really simple. Only a handful of creators are actually secure enough to allow or even want an audience to draw their own conclusions anymore. Modern media is about telling "your story" the way you want to. Hader while funny, clearly hated the fact people enjoyed Barry as a character and wanted to make sure anyone who "misinterpreted" his "art" would not like what he did with it.
>Lord, I’m going to die tonight >please give me the strength to sacrifice myself, so that my son can live a long and pious life >and that by doing this all my sins will be washed away and I will be redeemed in your eyes
Barry’s prayer came true, what do we make of this?
A day later and I still feel gross watching Barry die. Such a great show and finale (I still wish they skipped the epilogue and ended with canned applause with Gene and Barry on the couch.)
She knew what he was. She chose to take off with him and start a family. All she’s doing is starting drama that gets Barry killed and deprived her son of his father.
Barry wasn’t a good father anyway. That movie about him probably gave John more happiness than actually having him as a dad as he got older would. Dude wouldn’t even let him play call of duty or play baseball or go to school
Because he stopped trying to change. In the end he simply embraced some homegrown radical Christianity in order to deal with his appetite for killing his enemies.
Imagine. A final showdown with all the main players. Barry is hiding behind a door waiting for his chance. Hank has Sally, Fuches is coming down on them. Jim Moss is waiting outside. Barry closes his eyes. It's all becoming too much. He has to kill them all but how? Then he hears John and Sally yell out. His eyes open.
>TITLE CARD MUSIC KICKS IN
>BARRY STARTS TO CUT THEM ALL DOWN LIKE A MADMAN >SHOOTOUT IS BALLS TO THE WALL ACTION PACKED REALISTIC COMBAT >JIM MOSS CALLS THE COPS FROM OUTSIDE, GRABS HIS GUN, AND GOES IN WITHOUT BACKUP. >FINAL SHOWDOWN ENDS WITH BARRY BACK IN PRISON WHERE HE DESERVED TO BE THE WHOLE TIME >NEXT TO FUCHES AND GENE DOING JAIL THEATER.
not really, the only similarity is they're both horn-based. the finale was more of a mournful thing playing off the "barry was buried with full military honors" theme
t. musicman
Interesting how sally seems to genuinely love her son but is pretty cold to him in normal scenarios. She only showed real love or comforting him when they got kidnapped or when they hid in the bath tub
Guess she inherited that from the way her mom treated her
yeah there was such a massive shift after season 3, i really miss the wacky adventures of the first two seasons but i think Bill Hader wanting to get into horror and him and the writers admitting they wrote themselves in a corner after Gene found out about Barry lead them to that darker turn
Why do some fans seem unable to accept the fact that Sally is a terrible person capable of making terrible decisions on her own? Is it some form of infantilizing sexism?
It’s being pretty overshadowed by Succession ending. Seeing a lot of people unhappy with how Barry ended too

It was so deep when they had that one random character kill that other random character randomly it was so narratively satisfying.

Barry really is a moron.
In the end everyone’s self-deception was what ruined them. Everyone who could quit lying to themselves for 5 seconds made out alright.
Who quit lying to themselves you pretentious frick?
Filtered
Ah yes my favorite character
Fuches.
>I love Barry
>I’m gonna kill Barry
>I love Barry
>I’m gonna kill Barry
I feel like you’re being deliberately moronic if you’re portending to be gleaning any insight into the human condition from a shitty character with one dimension and a random nonsensical arc.
I didn't say it was insightful, I said I understood it
Not sure why the hostility. Seems contrived!
So you think you’re smart for hearing the dialogue on the show? Well I’m sorry to break it to you but you’re not.
Actually pal, I've got some news for ya: I am
Clearly demonstrated by you sucking the intellectual dick of an unfunny comedy.
That's exactly right. That's what makes me so smart.
Yeah, you’re the king, hombre. This post sound exactly like how my dumbass would say it, colon and all. And the guy you’re talking to is just sizzled cause someone pissed in his dunce cap.
You stay golden, hermano.
There's a heaven where the two of us are just smilin'
Yeah idk I never found it weird, Fuches has a weird relationship with Barry where he thinks of him like a tool and like his son. It’s this weird conflict he has that defines his character. He is constantly flip flopping on Barry, but it makes sense with their weird history together.
Yeah that Fuches he’s just so weird, y’know? Sometimes he goes away and lives on a farm for a year, sometimes he randomly becomes a kingpin! Such a weirdo! I wonder if he’s gonna wanna kill Barry or save him this episode, you never know with that weirdo!
I read that in Hanks voice
>Fuches had no point on the show
moron.
Barry and Fuches are like Fleetwood Mac
not that anon, but a character being completely inconsistent and unpredictable is not good writing, even if it is "on purpose"
>it just is because I say it is
I think a predictable character is bad writing.
Am I pretentious I'm sorry I just enjoy television shows
Monologues* sorry not sure what happened there friend. Hope you don't completely negate my point and insult me about that
>Barry quit lying to himself, allowing his death
it's not like he allowed himself to get killed, gene had the jump on him. i don't think barry ever stopped lying to himself, in the end he told tom to call the cops just because his family had left and he didn't really have anything else to do, that's not exactly a noble sacrifice
agree with the rest. the gene stuff especially i hadn't thought of in that way but it makes a lot of sense
I think you have it exact anon. And I found the Barry finale a nice palate cleanser from the disappointment that was Succession.
qrd on succession finale?
no roy succeeds
You are shallow
The show is shallow. It ends with a fake movie showing how silly and Hollywood this story could have been when it’s a pretty much line for line retelling of the story we saw with minor details changed.
wow you really missed the joke
Oh I loved the joke where they had the super cliche over the top slow motion death scene, it made me laugh so hard I forgot that the just did a super cliche cut to black death scene.
pretty much this.
You're moronic, yeah
>I'm I moronic
yes
>Hank admits that he has never forgiven himself for Cristobal's death and in a moment of despair chooses violence instead of acceptance. He dies for it
Fuches was the one who initiated the violence though, by shooting Hank?
That wasn't fuches. That was the frickin -raven-
The narrative told us that Fuches was a good guy for some reason now, just accept it if you want to appear smart
Fuches really didn't have much choice, he saw how Hank reacted and knew violence was about to happen one way or another.
A great television show! No notes.
No one wins, except Fuches.
Sally getting away with it was utter bullshit
Sally and Barry were completely justified. It was all Cousineau's fault.
Meanwhile, somewhere out there lives Fuches, who knows the whole truth.
She didn't do anything wrong.
I don't like the character but always gave me the impression that she was rolling with the punches.
So I’m currently on s3. Am I the only one who thinks Barry’s girlfriend is a total c**t? It seems like the show wants me to believe she’s a good person
>It seems like the show wants me to believe she’s a good person
How's that?
Sally is seriously the dumbest c**t ever. Why would he think anyone would sympathize with her
>I belive Hader has expressed (his) frustration with audiences being more unsympathetic to Sally than to Barry
Love what Hader is doing but I can't stand these s.oyfits he has. Sally's actress is just way too good at portraying an unhinged woman and a lot of people watching this show have had interactions with women like that.
>be part comedy
>Barry always saying funny stuff
>people like the funny guy despite him being a murderer
>I belive Hader has expressed (his) frustration with audiences being more unsympathetic to Sally than to Barry.
He might have changed his mind about this, cause season 4 seems to double down on her awfulness with child abuse/neglect, reckless behavior and alcoholism, apparently she was supposed to even cheat on barry and frick that guy in the bathroom before choking him.
she gets her comeuppance by having her life ruined
That blackpill moment about her never even having a shot was even too mean for me, a certified sally hater.
She's supposed to be a total c**t, and is only "good" by process of elimination because the other main characters are:
>hitman
>charismatic career criminal
>lying, manipulating handler
>washed up old actor swindling his students
She's so abrasive and self centered that other characters come across better than her even though they're objectively less moral.
maybe I’m just a pleb but I really wanted one more scene of Barry going monastery mode
We all wanted this. Hader even set it up, but instead it's just the sad clusterfrick between Hank and Fuches
yeah i had to rewatch that scene after the finale because of the blueballs
Dishonest finale, Hader is a dishonest director and writer.
remember in s1 we were hoping sally was going to frick off
then she ended up being a center piece and the finale of the show
i hated the direction this season went with the time skip and everything after it, but that said this was a decent finale. obviously there are a million abandoned threads that were never going to get resolved anyway, i just mean given what the rest of the season built up, the finale itself was alright.
hank's ending was good. barry getting killed by gene was good. i don't know how i feel about barry becoming a posthumous hero while gene became the villain just because gene took barry's hush money. i don't feel like barry really deserved the redemption just because 30 seconds before his death he told tom to call the cops. fuches's ending was kind of dumb but idk what else they were going to do with the character. why did he even want to see barry? did seeing his son change his mind about killing barry or did he never want to kill barry in the first place?
>why did he even want to see barry?
Because everyone thinks Barry is dead also Fuches just loves Barry so he's always going to take that offer.
Stephen Root said Fuches’s immediate instinct is always to kill Barry but can never do it. His take was that, even without the kid there, Fuches wouldn’t have been able to do it.
>that guard clutching his intestines after the shootout
That was unreal, fricking hell I will miss this show dearly
The show never returned to Ronnie and Lily kino status
Unironically, this is where the show started to lose me. It became way too improbable. if it actually went full fantastical after that episode, I would give it respect.
>if it actually went full fantastical after that episode, I would give it respect.
Yeah, like an actual john wick hotel, or barry becomes an A-lister who does hiss own stunts.
The show crawled up its own ass and died in the third season so I'm not surprised there's not many eyes on it
for how central of a character he is, fuches always seemed very under-developed to me, especially his relationship with barry
This is one of my favourite episodes in tv EVER
Also,
i cant be the only one that wants to frick sally right
show got worse every season, ended up skipping solo sally scenes the last ~12 episodes
le b***h.. she... ended up never mattering at all. Just like most women.
This show was right about women.
Garbage show
>Garbage show
/buzz/ general a few pages down
>if you dont like a you MUST like b
I see this is Barrys target audience
is HBO finished? They have been the last bastion of good scripted tv shows, The Last of us was meh, Succession and Barry didn't stick the landing, The plumber show is boring as frick. All there is too look foreword is How to With John Wilson
I think these overrated shows ending on wet farts is a perfect final nail in the coffin for HBO, even if it died a little while ago. John Wilson sucks shit too.
Why does John Wilson suck in your opinion? What shows do you actually enjoy?
It’s lazy manufactured hipster bullshit masquerading as social commentary just like everything else associated with Nathan For You and Tim and Eric
Because the show is fricking trash. KYS zoomer scum
Are these posts drenched with seething and coping just Succession cultists? What is going on here
It's a shitposting board but it's hard to find places where thoughtful discussion takes place online now so i kinda just sieve through bait like that till someone starts talking about the show in a way I like
Obviously EVERYONE didn't need to make a return but
>No confrontation between Barry and Jim Moss
>Albert never comes back despite a national manhunt after Barry + FBI before that make a plea deal with him. You would think Albert would want to be involved
>Chris wife is never heard of since the poisoning attempt.
It was a good show and I liked the ending.
Kinda seals how this show was so based in a kind of magical realism and fantastical ideas when you realise
>Barry escapes countless events where he should have died by all logic
>dies from some failed Hollywood actor with no training shooting him with a prop gun
Same with Fuches being given multiple chances to settle down with beautiful women in peaceful farms but choosing revenge and evil. Until now where he’s basically the devil
The a-ha moment for me was last season when the machine gun guy couldn't land a shot on barry on the highway
I was like 'this guy is frickin protected by divinity'
That was my take away
The show is pretty atheistic. And most of the religious stuff is interpreted through drugs, near death experiences or lying to yourself.
But the only way it makes sense for me is as a kind of twisted morality tale where God intervenes multiple times to
>give Fuches more chances to do right
>give Barry more chances to do right
>give Gene more chances to do right
Ironically only Barry succeeded so if there’s a god he’s in heaven now. He was gonna confess.
Yeah there’s nothing pretentious about a hit man struggling actor comedy being about God no sireee it’s just genius!
I didn’t say it was genius. If it irks you so much why are you here lol
Oh so you admit that the show is stupid and you are applying pretentious insecurity to it in order to rationalize its shortcomings?
Which shows match your level of expected quality?
Or is this a “I hate everything” situation? Happy to hear some recommendations of great shows that don’t falter or have any criticism from you
The frick do you care?
He's trying to establish in good faith whether or not you were just a troll or if earnest conversation could be obtained from you, I reckon.
My words speak for themselves you “good faith earnest” non trolls
They don’t though. You don’t like any shows as far as you’ve said. So why does you not liking this show matter?
STOP TALKING TO ME
Back to preddit then, homosexual.
This is Lynch levels of grasping at straws by midwits, please keep posting
How come you're like this
I bet we could be friends
>implying im an anon you already replied to
Taking the bait and thinking there is anything actually portraying a higher power in this show is borderline moronic.
It would make me legitimately depressed to learn that you weren't a troll and were a real person who believed the things they typed
Prove me wrong you stupid Black personhomosexual
nta but seems to be less of plot armor as a reason for that considering this show does have some kind of moral message, whether you agree with it and/or think they successfully pulled it off or not is another matter.
I don't think it's another matter. It's objective fact that they pulled it off and not agreeing means you're stupid
I agree they pulled it off. I was satisfied with the finale.
I agree there was imbalance in this regard. It wasn’t severe enough to disinterest me or make me hate the show. In contrast I do think the show was pretty consistent in theme/tone overall.
The only message I got is that Hader forgot how to keep the comedy part of dark comedy.
I consider it a degenerative process of the story. Barry went in a downward spiral, there are no opportunities for comedy in that context.
>there are no opportunities for comedy in that context
That's simply not true, you can say its harder or that it has a higher chance of appearing in bad taste, but to outright say that it cannot happen is just wrong.
Stop replying to me. You like the show and that's fine but you are only taking the show at face value.
Nta but him and I are both smarter than you. That's why we're able to appreciate the show more.
>cope and projection
I thank you for admitting you are wrong and I was right.
You're a really weird guy
>protagonists luck
Or plot armor. But the screenwriters disguised it with the hallmark absurdity of the show so the audience can't track it.
Everything is midwit for you. The punchline is that you can't even elaborate anything.
I got paid and I'm making kinos now while your sweaty fingers type bullshit better than what I wrote for HBO the last couple years.
sup bill
No really why are you like this? Acting like this is unfathomable to me. Its such a series of weird boring dares. I don't get it!
Hey Ike you little shitbird ya want some piiiiie?
What’s it like fricking that asiatic from BEEF? She’s hot
Let's just say that her BEEF is ROAST. If you catch my drift.
It's also valid, but that idea doesn't appeal to me mostly because it speaks of an arbitrary God who disposes of human life as one who washes his hands or goes shopping.
>but that idea doesn't appeal to me mostly because it speaks of an arbitrary God who disposes of human life as one who washes his hands or goes shopping
brother I have some terrible news for you
Being a natural killer doesn’t explain him just having bullets miss him or not dying from poison thanks to a coincidence
Please respect yourself enough not to argue with these people dude
Correct take. They are not serious people.
Ah yes now it’s “magical realism” instead of “cartoony tonally inconsistent random bullshit”
>Gene made Barry become an actor
>Barry made Gene become a killer
pottery
It was a real gun from rip torn
It has a lot of great fun moments. Like when Hank tried to blow up the Fuches' house with a rocket.
It was really bad and no one wants to acknowledge it.
it's too bad they couldn't actually get DDL and Mark Wahlberg for the movie. like i know that was just a lie from the actor working for the cops and the actual movie was just some action garbage but still, would've been kino
you would think they could have gotten SOME other recognizeable actor for the fake movie. I mean, they got Jon Hamm for a cameo once. It would have helped to sell the lie
I could have missed something though.
i don't think the show has ever had any frame of reference for when it takes place except sometime after the way in afghanistan started. it's plausible that season 1 took place in the mid 2000s, some time passes between each season, then the mid-season 4 timeskip is like mid-2010s and the finale ends in 2023
I meant his son is 8 years old. We know 8 years took place between the time jump. Then he’s some mid teens teenager
On top of that it’s safe to assume it’s 2018 onwards. They had smart phones and shit
It's much further in the future than that, they have holographic billboards
when hank is giving his sand seminars with cristobal he says its taking place in 2023
Wait a minute
Albert knows the truth. Why didn’t he stop Gene going to jail forever over Barry’s crimes?
Albert took the acting class a few years before Barry and had a pretty bad experience with Mr. Cousineau then. He was fine to just let him take the heat.
my head-canon is that he was killed offscreen by the chechens but the writers fricked up and cut the throwaway line mentioning it
Do they really make your scars this aesthetic when you get shot in the face in the military?
if i remember correctly he doesn't actually have enough evidence to prove it, just a private conversation with Barry.
his word wouldn't be enough.
Albert actively chose to let Barry go because Barry saved his life years prior, offering him a chance at redemption. He doesn't want Barry's life to be ruined because Albert got a second chance at life thanks to him, which is why he chose to walk away.
Was Sally a demon? how come she never aged?
“Nothing tastes like it used to, does it? Nothing's the same as it was. HBO shows can’t even pull off their endings these days
They warned us bros
I wish the bald Russian gay guy(my favorite person on the show) would have killed sally, my least favorite person on the show
Season 3 killed any interest I had in the show
I'm surprised we didn't get an arc with Barry setting up an acting class in jail.
Sally won
She rides a vibratory every evening to that movie about Barry
Do you think her son is helping her? They seem to be pretty close.
why didn't marky mark play barry?
he found out he'd have scenes with albert
Why didn't Sally come forward and exonerate cousensau? She could have backed him on the story
> Barry is killed
> Oh, nevermind. Let the old prick go to jail.
TOTAL
FUCHES
VICTORY
So is this dude the literal devil or what
He has Barry’s luck but is pure evil except for 1/100’th of the time
man those dream sequences were so fricking good. Gonna enjoy the eventual rewatch tbh
being called "boo boo the fool" really changes a man
Here's a little plot hole i don't think anyone has brought up before, but how does Sally have Cousineau's phone number? She is able to contact him, but a previous episode establishes he got a new number.
Did I miss something?
She goggled it
I gave it to her
I just assumed he was lying about changing it.
Was black daddy Archangel Gabriel?
We all know that season 4 was supposed to be twice as long, but the show has poor ratings, so we have what we have. So it's a mess.
The final season was great until Barry and Cousensau came to LA. That's when the mess started because the show had to end.
Season 3 is just depressing, barely any jokes on that dark humor style. Even the violence has less of that feeling the first two seasons had.
yeah not just the tone but the whole premise of hitman wanting to be actor thing just went away
damn i did not enjoy what this show became. the walking dead ended with less loose ends and that shit is moronic!!
TOTAL RAVEN VICTORY
Season 3 was getting somewhere and they dropped it all this season. It feels convoluted and messy. I honestly thought there was 14 episodes this season for some reason. What a waste. Whole season should’ve been set in the prison
I would have liked to know more about barrys past. The last season wouldve been the best time to explore that.
We already know everything. Before the acting course, he didn't really know himself. He only did what he was told.
He was a frickin' dumbshit numbskull from Ohio. That's enough
Season 3 wasn't that bad.
Can't believe it
Could've done with a full hour I think.
>Sally lives in her own personal hell
>Barry achieves redemption seconds before dying and the univers potrays him as a tragedic hero
>Gene got arrested for lige because he don't accept all of his bullshit
>THE RAVEN wins by fawless victory because he accepted himself
>Hank dies in a bittersweet way after he finally accepted he killed his mover
Great ending, i wish the episode was longer or the season Much longer because it felt rushed... Am i the only one who thinks this show has a hard commentary about christianity
>hard commentary about christianity
I definitely think so, Barry treats acting like laundering his sins and Gene is corrupted by being worshipped.
Holy kino
>MGS2ending.jpg
why didn't he just admit it
He's not the heartless killer he pretends to be.
>lgbt is heckin valid and real
frick off hader
Honestly though, the entire ending scene with John smiling before cutting to credits was actually pretty kino.
Granted it doesn't really explain anything or why no one went forward with the truth, but whatever. I guess it's also just to point out that we make our own realities just to be more comfortable. Sally admitted to John that they were murderers, but I'm sure he accepts that his father was a hero now.
>obviously films his scenes at a different time as his on screen father
What the FRICK was his problem?
wat
>The bad guy is an old israelite who went to jail for nothing
Pretty based.
The israelite went to jail because he accepted blood money
Pretty unrealistic
I almost died of fricking laughing at the ending scene.
Barry won
Yup.
I feel like the show ended up having about as much sympathy as you can for its 'empty headed know nothing dumbfrick from Ohio gets manipulated into being evil and has a schizophrenic breakdown as a result' main character
He got what he wanted
>Gene Cousineau, age 76, gave himself up to the authorities after the incident. He is currently serving a life sentence.
I fricking hate libshit writers so much
I get that response for the buying guns scene but why for the bit at the end of the Mask Collector? There’s zero political about that part.
Every active service member that participated in any "war" in the last decades is literally a murderer for hire, a ZOG mercenary that hasn't fought for a moral right in his entire life.
You don't have to disagree about everything with "libshits" just because of who they are.
Murdering sub-80 iq sandBlack folk that live in mud huts and ride camels, just to appease the israelite massa and then make movies about it like you are a hero is literal subhuman behavior.
nah frick off goatfricker
The whole movie was hilarious. People can say whatever they want about the last seasons but I can't remember the last time I have been satisfied with a show ending as much as I did with this one.
I'm very happy I'll never have to hear about this sick israelite shit ever again in a week.
This isn't a Succession thread
It's the same.
So Barry won in the end, right?
So Jim was convinced that Barry was just some poor abused Marine, not a Hitman. And he didn’t care he killed his daughter any more?
Or did he think Gene killed his daughter like what happened in the movie?
Did he not think that footage of Barry killing the car full of Chechens was him?
Yeah Dad Moss sort of did a moronic 180 in order to make the finale happen the way it did.
Jim just sorta forgot his daughter got murdered by Barry
in his mind barry was just a hired gun with lots of loyalty, and gene was the one who called in the hit
Not sure why he’d think that means he’s safe to leave alone in his house all day to escape
Also he captured him creeping into Genes house with a gun. What the frick did he think Barry was doing there other than to kill him?
eh, barry got off the chair and the drug and he was still so fricked up he slept the whole day at the place. jim probably knew barry would be down for the day, but did not expect to unearth information that would keep him away for longer, so he had no contingency plans
He saw that Barry was being manipulated into being a hired gun by someone and incorrectly believed it was gene
I thought it was Gene? He knew Barry was a hitman. He told him the first night they met. Then he invited Harry to his cabin to kill that detective after she found the drugs and kills the chechnyen guy at Genes theatre
is that the Dexter shirt?
looks like it, but nobody rocked that shirt like big d
It was a Dexter parody early on. I was hoping Michael C. Hall would appear as an antagonist at some point in the series.
He was on the documentary now show hader made
Why are creators so antagonistic toward the people who enjoy things about their work that they're "not supposed to"? What's the obsession with subverting expectations, not giving them what they want? Frick Hader.
cause interpreting their work in a different manner to them is basically challenging their world view and that hurts their ego.
portraying something =/= endorsing it
>What's the obsession with subverting expectations, not giving them what they want?
I have no idea what yoy expected, but I got exactly what I wanted. Barry getting away with everything he did.
>Barry getting away with everything he did.
I don't get it. Barry is a murderer and he has made the lives of the people who cared for him a living hell.
You aren't going to understand why I say this, but please seek therapy. I love you.
What did you mean by this?
Bingo. Bill Hader Bingo.
it sucked
The entire last episode was dumb as frick
I agree. I was very surprised that someone was praising the finale. And I think the first 6 episodes are genius. But the finale is just dog shit.

We're done, barrybros...
>Lord, I’m going to die tonight
>please give me the strength to sacrifice myself, so that my son can live a long and pious life
>and that by doing this all my sins will be washed away and I will be redeemed in your eyes
Barry’s prayer came true, what do we make of this?
parody of Christianity
>what do we make of this?
Means Barry completely and utterly won
Barry won 🙂
Minus when Barry was in prison the whole last season sucked
Wrong
A day later and I still feel gross watching Barry die. Such a great show and finale (I still wish they skipped the epilogue and ended with canned applause with Gene and Barry on the couch.)
Should’ve ended with Gene staring an acting class in prison with The Raven
>Hey! ‘It’s him! That’s Better Kill Cops Gene!
>Barry! Barry! Barry! Barry!
Sally was such a c**t for running off with the kid
Barry literally told her he’d drop John off at an orphanage then they’d have to kill themselves if the “truth” got out
I doubt he would but plenty of reason to think it’s not safe to be near him
She knew what he was.
>Barry wasn’t a good father anyway.
Better parent than sally, at least he let him knew he was loved.
That is so funny how they made gene the evil mastermind in the movie.
That’s how it looked IRL so why wouldn’t they do that. Dude is still rotting in prison. Which is good
>terror beach never returned
kinda sad
The Death Stranding beach?
cause he repented at the end and joined gods embrace which we're not worthy of see yet.
>we're not worthy of see yet.
Fair enough.
why didnt they use it bros
Because he stopped trying to change. In the end he simply embraced some homegrown radical Christianity in order to deal with his appetite for killing his enemies.
Imagine. A final showdown with all the main players. Barry is hiding behind a door waiting for his chance. Hank has Sally, Fuches is coming down on them. Jim Moss is waiting outside. Barry closes his eyes. It's all becoming too much. He has to kill them all but how? Then he hears John and Sally yell out. His eyes open.
>TITLE CARD MUSIC KICKS IN
>BARRY STARTS TO CUT THEM ALL DOWN LIKE A MADMAN
>SHOOTOUT IS BALLS TO THE WALL ACTION PACKED REALISTIC COMBAT
>JIM MOSS CALLS THE COPS FROM OUTSIDE, GRABS HIS GUN, AND GOES IN WITHOUT BACKUP.
>FINAL SHOWDOWN ENDS WITH BARRY BACK IN PRISON WHERE HE DESERVED TO BE THE WHOLE TIME
>NEXT TO FUCHES AND GENE DOING JAIL THEATER.
also hank still dies
I'm no musicman, but did the end credits theme sound like a play on this?
not really, the only similarity is they're both horn-based. the finale was more of a mournful thing playing off the "barry was buried with full military honors" theme
t. musicman
I found season 4 of Barry to be shallow and pedantic
I disagree.
It insists upon itself.
Isn't this dumb ass show suppose to be a comedy?
Not enough slipping on banana peels for you?
yes
Best to just forget about Barry tbh
At least Hader tried (poorly)
It was cool to see the Wolf of Snow Hollow guy show up
Barry finale>>>>>
Mermaid>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
finale
Interesting how sally seems to genuinely love her son but is pretty cold to him in normal scenarios. She only showed real love or comforting him when they got kidnapped or when they hid in the bath tub
Guess she inherited that from the way her mom treated her
how do you guys feel about the finale? Honestly I think Bill Hader stuck the landing
It was functional.
I think the finale was alright
But i miss so very much the first two seasons, you dont see dark ckmedy like that everyday 🙁
yeah there was such a massive shift after season 3, i really miss the wacky adventures of the first two seasons but i think Bill Hader wanting to get into horror and him and the writers admitting they wrote themselves in a corner after Gene found out about Barry lead them to that darker turn
didnt like the final. But atleast sally was doing what she love
Ending sucked. Gene & Sally should have been killed. They were backstabbing c**ts the entire show.
>protagonist is a bad guy
>he dies in the end
frick off
Why do some fans seem unable to accept the fact that Sally is a terrible person capable of making terrible decisions on her own? Is it some form of infantilizing sexism?
Nah u are
