Yes, basically, she has to "make her case" if she wants more for something. I could go on for a while about why I think this leads to a healthy relationship built out of mutual respect and satisfying each other's needs. If I just handed her shit, she'd become entitled and it wouldn't force us to interact, seen it plenty of times with degenerated marriages, including my own parents'.
Same concept goes for kids as well, of course without the seduction part. I hand out the basics, and if they want something extra, they have to come talk to me and politely make their case. I usually grant it anyway, but the interaction and rapport building is what I think is important.

We're happy. We have seperate accounts. I basically look after all the money. She gives me a certain amount each month which I feel is a fair contribution towards mortgage and bills etc. we never have arguments over money.

Marriage is just an insurance contract for the woman, so that the years spent with you if/when a breakup occurs aren't "wasted" to her because she gets half the belongings or a nice monthly payment set up from you.
