I think Carl can hang with the best nominations for best character in any conversation. Not giving a frick is top tier comedy, and the crazier the setting/situation the funnier and manlier it becomes. The highest eschelon of absurdity is where Carl shines brightest, even if he doesn't care enough to sshine at all. Brilliant character who cares so little it's hard to dislike him, and he wouldn't care if you did.
I'm surprised they never won an award for that character. He seemed so real in a show that was so absurd.

rewatching this rn, forgot how he's subtlely the worst of the bluths. gob and buster are dunces but childlike in their own unique ways, lindsey is self-serving but mostly harmless; george senior and lucille are terrible, but michael doubles down on their image and egotistically thinks only he can (and should) save the family. they pepper things in there to point it out: his dismissive treatment of george michael, the many failed relationships.
