Batgirl movie

>In January 2023, DC Studios co-head Peter Safran said the film was "not releasable" as it "would not have been able to compete in the theatrical marketplace; it was built for the small screen". Though he praised the talents of the actors and crew, he added that had it released, it would have "hurt" the DC brand and those involved.

It can’t have been THAT bad. How can you praise the crew but say it would hurt the brand and the crew if anybody saw it?

    Bump!

Would watch it in 480p even with all the unfinished green screen shit & a giant watermark attached to the screen similar to the way Wolverine Origins got leaked back in '09.

Somebody should leak it on Cinemaphile they way they leaked that Scoob animated movie to prove that Gunn, Safran & Zaslav were completely wrong (because they kept shilling the Flash as the greatest CBM of all time, only for it to turn out to be the greatest BOMB since Phantoms). The comments & the shilling are still out there in the open, the internet never forgets & not amount of good will on Superman Legacy will erase the bullshiit that they kept spreading about the Flash during its pre-release days.

    * Batgirl had a charismatic/comfy lead in Leslie Grace (not an annoying creeper with an unbearable laugh going full moron)

    * A lot of dope Michael Keaton scenes (as both Bruce & Batman)

    * J.K. as Jim Gordon, Fraser as Firefly, a Gotham City that visually tried to stay true to the Burton/Furst aesthetic & cool action beats/set pieces.

Sure, it also had Christina Hodson as the screenwriter (the film's biggest red flag since everything that this woman touched in DCEU turned out to be a bunch of horseshit), so a lot of the dialogue & writing would've been weak but there is no fricking way (based on the leaks, test screening bits & images out there) that it would've been worse than the Flash.

Allegedly it was at one version below what we had with X-Men Origins: Wolverine and the CG started. Not even finished color corrected. And that version still did well with test audiences.

Damn, here’s hoping 2024 starts with a banger of a leak or if someone decided to say “frick it!” & leak it in 10 days time on Christmas since the film takes place during that time of the year.

Apparently they had a Gala scene with goons shooting at Batgirl with Keaton getting a piece of the action as Bruce Wayne, kicking butt & taking names (bts pic-related), similar to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8o4pgEZC98 (but with less graphic violence)

This genuinely looks awful. Like a YouTube video with cosplayers. Why in gods name would they go with Keatonbat? That costume is horrible but also his Gordon wasn’t the black one.

He looks like carrot top DBZ fused with the dude from coheed and cambria. This movie would have been as unpleasant as a shart on a cold morning.

It was trash. Imagine how bad it must have been when they released the Snyder cut but not this

So you're saying it was probably good then

The Flash & Blue Beetle were both fricking abysmal & still got released by WB. It couldn’t have been worse than the two of them combined. The Batgirl actress is quite good & has a positive vibe about her (meaning that I would watch a film with her in it, despite the bad dialogue & script), beats forcing yourself to sit through Alicia Silverstone’s monotone & godawful portrayal of Barbara in ‘97.

      >it would hurt the brand and the crew if anybody saw it?

      i mean

they likely spent 300 million+ on Flash including all the reshoots, plus with the superbowl spot easily one of the higher ad spends for any movie of 2023, very likely over 100 million, maybe 150+

and it made 266 million total and while it stayed on release for 63 days domestically for the last 21 of those it was in fewer than 100 screens in the US and Canada combined, 150 for the week before that and 780 the week before that, none of which is wide release, on its 27th day it was selling about 8 tickets a day at every theater, tops

which honestly hurts the brand, so yeah, they proved it with the bigger, more expensive movie that had the greater chance of looking slick and starring people you've heard of and care about doing things that matter to the plot, and you can't really in the aftermath of that go back and say they should release Batgirl (which they can't do anyway because they wrote it off against tax as unusable - they can never release it now)

the Snyder cut was released more as a cashflow thing to keep the studio and the small businesses its work supports and which it in turn relies on from going under while everyone was in lockdown

effectively it was a support payment, I doubt on $70m spending to produce it they made any real profit and I suspect the bigger names involved worked for scale or a profit share they knew would be nonexistent given the circumstances

Wasn't Batgirl shot on Iphone? I know only one other film like that and it's not at all expensive, and I also doubt there's much to Batgirl to waste money on. It's a street level vigilante movie, not like you need expensive CGI. It could probably do okay for its budget.

Does that look like an iPhone too you? No action movie would do that.

The action scenes were partly framed as phone filmed.

        >and starring people you've heard of
That right there blows up your entire argument because both movie held the same amout of Michael Keaton and I know you phrase that specifically to say that Erza Miller is well known but not for his acting roles like Michael Keaton.

It's impossible to understand the world in which David Zaslav operates. He's a person where a general interest magazine published a blog listing everything he's done, so he shot off an email to an assistant that contacted a vice president of development to contact the editor in chief of the magazine with which WB Discovery has a development deal to say rewrite the blog. They do. The writer responded with "what the frick, that's not what I wrote." The editorial board said that was what would run. Writer said they'd publicize the change or take it down. It's removed. This all becomes public knowledge. Zaslav looks even crazier and still doesn't care because he got his way.

    >It can’t have been THAT bad

Yes it can, in fact almost all capeshit movies are so bad that they should have never been released.

It’s a valid point (about most CBMs being utter rubbish), however one needs to experience Batgirl (even in an unfinished form) in order to make the final judgment (the word of Gunn, Safran & Zaslav means nothing to me after their ‘hype’ for the Flash).

Some folks love the Snyder Cut, some hate it, some like the Reeves Batman, some despise it.

I’m sure that, if released, the Batgirl cut will have a lot of supporters & equally a lot of detractors as well. That’s how this anticipation thing always works.
