Neo Gotham was never that colorful. Looks atrocious. It was supposed to look very corporate and gentrified with an emphasis on the rich living literally up high while the poor lived near the ground. It was something they never pointed out in the show, but you picked up on it while watching the show.

Bringing back that one Fantastic Four homage guy is a mistake. He worked in his story as a tragic villain of circumstance. Turning him into a "rogue" is a total mischaracterization.

            Anonymous

            >a tragic villain of circumstance
But this is a major trait of Batman rogues. Tragic circumstance, "villain" takes it too far, Batman stops them and in doing so exacerbates their villainy and often creates some sort of motiff.
Do you think Victor Freize should not have been a rogue?

              Anonymous

Actually, yeah. You made my point for me by bringing up Freeze. There's a reason you don't see Victor chumming around with Killer Croc or Condiment King or telling Almost Got Him stories. He doesn't work in that sense. His stories are always separated from the other villains. My problem is that, like Freeze, the Fantastic Four guy shouldn't be included in a big time villain team up like this. Sure, bring him back if you want, but not in some battle royale style brawl.

I think you have a good point on the dichotomy of Batman rogues, though.
There's "street level" where Batman honestly shines with people like Mad Hatter or Shriek or at most Killer Croc - regular people that had One Bad Day and turned it into a whole villain thing because their brain broke. Not super powers, just riff raff that have more skill than most.
There's "waynetech level" where Batman is dealing with worldwide threats like Ras Al Ghul or Bane or in Beyond Inque and Blight. Still good and still detective shit, but it starts getting more superpowered.
There's "I can hang with superman" level which can be fun but for me is just
                >not muh Batman

I would expect Inque and Blight to hang around, but not someone like Shriek or the high school kid that could control machines.

I can't imagine it's a rights issue, they brought it back in comic form a few times over, they still sell the original show and DTV movie, they lifted shit from the Timm cartoons plenty of times before without issue (like Harley Quinn).

My guess is they think it's too obscure or something, being based on a twenty+ year old cartoon.

I agree it should be a no-brainer, but there's nothing to suggest they have any restrictions on making a Batman Beyond anything and everything to suggest they can do as they like with it, so what gives with their reluctance?

I still argue the twist of Epilogue would've been fine if they just used Bruce's DNA to find someone genetically similar to him instead of rewriting Terry's DNA. Just go full on Boys of Brazil and say they found Terry and 50 or so other candidates using blood samples from children getting their first round of childhood vaccinations or something. Then they could've done the whole Nature/Nuture story beat where they tried to jumpstart a Batman with a childhood trauma. Maybe have all the other assassinations go off without a hitch but lead to nothing, whereas Terry's was the one case where the killer wouldn't go through with it - but he wound up becoming Batman anyways. Then you could keep Terry's point about Batman being a curse.

Here's my fricking problem with all these Batman Beyond pitches and projects we always hear about every once in a while.

    >What people want from a new Batman Beyond
More of the original show. A movie that continues it. The dynamic of Terry McGinnis and Bruce Wayne. A simple continuation. The tone, the vibe, the fricking Spellbinder and Blight. Something like Return of The Joker, but with other characters. The Royal Flush Gang. Grimdark implications. Action like the Matrix meets Blade Runner.

    >What studios and "creatives" think people want
A live-action/animated complete reboot. A potential sequel to Christopher Nolan's/Joel Schumacher's/Tim Burton's films. A story with multiverse/time travel shenanigans brimming with normie easter eggs that really have nothing to do with the original show. Flashy animation style/designs that miss the point of the original. An obnoxious emphasis on Terry being a "teenaged bad boy batman" that is miscast or cast with someone who can only fit the role superficially. Humor fit for a heckin Batman version of le Spider-Verse!!1! Recasting of Terry and Bruce Wayne and pointlessly overhauling every single aspect from Terry's family to even the high school bullies. The forced inclusion of Damien "worst Robin" Wayne. An over-designed Beyond costume to be tacticool or that is litearlly neon-lit robot armor (probably with nanites like in Endgame which is yucky yucky). Some twist about how Bruce Wayne is le bad guy??? Batgirl and Batman's cucking of Dick Grayson. JOKER? REVENGE OF THE JOKER? REMEMBER JOKAH, BABY? Probably an annoying version of Robin beyond.

Do you get what I'm saying? Do you see what the fricking problem is? The people wanting to do something, anything related to Batman Beyond DON'T GIVE AF ABOUT BATMAN BEYOND unless they ignore it and make THEIR version.

It is rare that once an creation loses the original creators, will it be any good. Unless the creators have a fundamental understanding of the creation, then it is possible. You would need to get a team of people who watched Batman Beyond when they were kids and really loved it to an autistic level. Then you have them as overseers to a group of new writers, to make sure characters stay in character, the tone is the same, the settings are the same, etc. They whip the writers until the finished product begins to resemble the old show

This. Not enough people are saying this. The Batman Beyond movies being floated around aren’t truly Batman Beyond movies. They’re all just an assortment of reboots that would go in completely different directions, directions that are probably antithetical to what made Batman Beyond so great. Batman Beyond isn't just a teenaged futuristic sci-fi Batman. If anything, it’s Batman meets Deus Ex.

      Yes, well said.
If a new Batman Beyond anything gets created today it would be a miracle if its anything even decently good and tied to the original series. Batman Beyond itself was a miracle it turned out as good as it did in the first place. I'm fine if we never get anything Beyond related going forward. A video game would be nice, but AAA studios would mess that up too. Maybe an indie dev can make it happen though.

I like the idea of a Batman Beyond movie, but I'm already getting tired of the "spider-verse" animation style. It just seems like the new "Pixar" style for animation in film now.
For all the yapping artists on twitter do about wanting creative freedom and originality, it all just boils down to them copying whatever trending animation style is reigning at the present.
And in this case it doesn't really seem to have been thoughtfully applied.

Pic gets it. Gotham isnt just cyberpunk, it's future noir gothic. A sleek-yet-brutalist re-interpretation of the style in the precursor cartoon and Burton movie that itself was inspired via Metropolis.

I think I figured it out. Dana Tan is Asian. And named appropriately I might add. Terry McGuiness is a white chad who fricks Dana. Asians hate white chads who frick their women. Thus, they need Terry to turned Asian or their masculinity will be crushed like always.

Get rid of Dana Tan and use Ten (Melanie Walker) instead = no more asians trying to change Terry's race.

        Anonymous

I think you're onto something. Plus, Dana was always extra baggage because she was not in the know about Terry's "after school job" like Mel - just better to do anyway in 'current year' since it's a half compromise with their insane lefty antics (we get a white male protag, his girlfriend is black or mixed, and we got the diversity requirements out of the way)
Now we just gotta make sure they don't draw them ugly in the new version or make Mel even more caricaturish

Agreed, I don't care for Spiderverse animation. The second one almost gave me a seizure. Most people consider it artistic. But I think it's just used cause it's cheap and easy to animate.

Correct. Only easily-impressed normalgays consider it as art because OH MY GOD THE COLORS!!!!!!
            It is just nauseating contrast.

            Anonymous

It also is just not the right emotional style of animation for BB.
Miles is all that "Imma do my own thing" and haphazard and charge in and high energy bouncing around.
Terry is a stalker. He crouches, he uses his stealth WAY more, he more often than not start an encounter by talking about the "investigation" rather than immediately going into action.
Terry is a free thinker, but he also LIKES having Bruce as a coach in his ear.
The janky animation and colors works fine for characters like Miles Spiderman or Puss in Boots - people that are meant to be bouncing around.
            It's not a Batman look.

                Anonymous

I don't see anything "lazy" here. That's an incredibly detail dense and complex background and it's for a pretty minor scene.
Spider Verse has a lot of complex animation techniques going into it.
Stuff like programming AI systems that draw the contour lines on the faces, and hand painting and compositing 2D effects into the 3D animation is pretty up there.

Background could be an in game render from Crackdown (2006) with a filter applied lol.

You may not like how it looks, which is fine, but that wasn't the claim I was responding to. It was that it was cheap and easy to make.

                >programming AI systems that draw the contour lines on the faces
                >not lazy
                frickin corpo shills

This wasn't just lazily just typing into a prompt like with midjourney. They had in-house artists create their own library of reference drawings and then created their own algorithm to train those on. This was something they developed 7+ years ago, it's not AI in the sense you're thinking of. That tech wasn't even available at the time.

They should have made a Batman Beyond movie for 2019, Directed by Tim Burton and starring Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne mentoring the next Batman with Robert Patterson as his protégé.

As such it would have hit Batman's 80th anniversary, the 30th anniversary of the 89 film and also concluded the Burton/Keaton trilogy that was never completed in the 90's!!!FACT!!!

I think Ryan Reynolds did something similar during studio discussions about making Deadpool, it's also a way to signal fan interest to the braindead executives when they can point at a chart and say "this trended number one on Twitter" and throw out impressive sounding engagement statistics. Even if this particular version doesn't happen, the idea of any new Batman Beyond will seem more attractive to these people.
