Batman Beyond - Early Design

Do you think the show would be somehow ruined if they went along with this design instead?

Yeah, looks like a mook. Beyond’s design works well because it goes against expectations of what a “ robotic bat suit” would look like and instead opts to make him look like a living shadow.
So, naturally, every refrain just makes him iron Batman because people are dumb.

I hate Batman Beyond redesigns/fanart SO much. They all give him an armor or an extremely detailed suit, completely missing the point

Me too, the suit is basically a silhouette and it only works if done with the minimum amount of details, and that means basic reflected light on a human figure. Samnee does it nicely, his covers are amazing, but I wish we got him drawing some interior art.

If it was an alternate suit for extreme threats sure. Otherwise, has it right, the original was best. It's a shame that none of the games can make the Beyond suit work. Maybe have it completely flat matte and blur the edges of the model as a sort of camouflage field?

American games are too hyperfocussed on realism, if you did a stylized, Killer 7 type world it'd look amazing.

It's decent, but it has that future tech = hexagons shit as an overlay.

I think that one looks great. Specially compared to this thing some drunk madman at Rocksteady designed.

I like that one actually, just not as a Beyond suit. Maybe as a space operations/HALO type one.

When it comes to 3D/video games, you need some sort of texture to keep things from looking cheap and plasticky. You shouldn't go as overboard as the Arkham Knight Beyond suit, but the City one is a decent compromise (I would still get rid of the seam lines, though).

Since the BTAS one was in the game, I'd hoped the City Beyond suit would go for a cel shaded look and be heavily stylied. I don't hate it, I just dislike the future means hexagon aesthetic that games use.

I never liked the mouth when seeing it in 3D, always seems like the hardest thing to make look good.

I think the mouth is probably the hardest to translate into 3D

It looks like a Power Rangers suit, which was already in decline by 1997.

    Yes. That looks terrible.

I think if the helmet was redesigned it would look much better

I like the design by itself, but I'm glad we got Terry as we did.

Also reminder we almost got this instead of Beyond.

      What is that?

A previous pitch for a futuristic teen Batman series that was inspired by Pokemon and anime in general.

This was actually going to be after Beyond. Pokemon didn't hit Kids WB until Beyond was well under development(hit US syndication in sept 98 and didn't get on Kids WB until like 99). This pitch is around 2000/2001 when Kids WB wanted an even younger feeling series than Beyond. JL at CN was what we got instead

This would've been a good villain. Like a guy who is inspired by Terry but is a lot more vicious.

Right? Like Red X to Robin in Teen Titans.

It does give me Jean-Paul Valley vibes.

This would've been cool for Selina's sex-son she was going to have in the original second movie pitch(basically, selina cloned Bruce to make Terry and others, and she kept one who had an Oedipal relationship with her)

This looks way more like a one-time powerup than a regular suit

This feels very much like an one time Apokolipian upgrade or something.

This suit unironically looks too low-tech. The Beyond suit's simplicity and the fact that it hides so much tech beneath that is what makes it seem so darn futuristic. It doesn't NEED to look "sci-fi," but it does all that sci-fi stuff anyways. That's a hint that there's some serious tech behind it.

It's like Terry says when he first sees it:

    >This thing may be old but it's still cutting edge.

Bruce clearly poured all his money and all his research into it, and it's the most advanced piece of tech in the entire show. So advanced that it doesn't need to LOOK advanced. Its simplicity is essentially showing off.
