Had Andromeda stayed on the level of S1 and S2 it would've easily been up there. >The long night has come. The Systems Commonwealth, the greatest civilization in history, has fallen. But now one ship, one crew, have vowed to drive back the night and rekindle the light of civilization. On the starship Andromeda... hope lives again.
Andromeda S1 and S2 were so good—also the last handful of episodes of S3—but the rest is so terrible that it's hard to recommend to anybody. I'm a huge Andromeda advocate and even I've never made it all the way through S4.
Firefly didn't start hitting a stride till the end of the season, and while better than it started it doesn't deserve to be on a top anything list. Stargate has too many ups and downs, very inconsistent. Battlestar meandered a bit too much and the finale was meh. TNG made all subsequent Star trek shows possible, later seasons brought it down some. B5 had a solid story from beginning to end of S4, where it should've ended. Farscape is GOAT.
TNG is obviously great. Battlestar Galactica falls to pieces after the second season. I could never get into Babylon 5. Maybe I just need to push through the first season. I've still never seen anything of the others.
B5>SG1>=Farscape>TNG Galactica.
That last one isn´t in the same category. It goes in Western with some Sci-Fi elements, and then it´s Brisco County Jr>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Does it ever stop feeling like a community college staged a production of Star Trek?

In Season 4 only, because it had a bigger budget than other seasons and was also faster paced. But yeah it had one tenth the budget of Star Trek

the worst part about the smaller budget is that if any character wasn't directly involved in a plot, they were not onscreen. This means some characters don't even show up for 5 or 6 episodes in a row. Compared to Star Trek which had the budget to pay actors just to stand around in the background, it loses something important.

The production values I can tolerate, but the acting is almost magnificently awful. The dialogue isn't great either, but I'll try to withstand it. I intend to at least finish the first season.

I don't understand how someone can call acting and writing in B5 bad, but you are only in S1. I'd say stick with the show as it's THE example of what proper planning can result in.

exactly two actors are acclaimed, not the cast as a whole
B5 is known as the scifi show with best acting among all scifi shows. No one has ever disputed this fact of life. You are either trolling or you haven't seen it (2nd monitor doesn't count, pay attention)

lol no one thinks Claudia Christian or Jerry Doyle are great actors, and Bruce Boxleitner is such a ham that he makes William Shatner look like Laurence Olivier.

I have tried multiple times. I pick it up and always drop it after watching a few episodes.
I'm near the end of S3 after all the pick ups and drops.
I don't like shows that are seasons long. I like my sci-fi relatively episodic. I don't mind arcs, but not when every single episode is part of the arc.
Even when DS9 was doing seasons long dominion war, it was still broken up with fun sci-fi adventures.
I love B5 but can completely understand how the lack of variety annoys some people. Aso the writing in B5 tends to be very dry, stuffy and preachy, much more so than any Star Trek. But I love the characters and setting enough to look past those flaws.
>the newly remastered Blu-ray is awesome.
DUDE TOTALLY AWESOME!!!
SO FRICKING AWESOME, IT'S AWESOMENESS IS KNOWN MONTHS BEFORE ITS DECEMBER 2023 RELEASE!!!
The objective ranking is as follows
1. B5
2. TNG
3. Stargate
4. Farscape
5. BSG (could be 2. If the 3rd and 4th seasons were better, but they're still decent)
6. Firefly
I loved the feeling of danger, no hope BSG and vastness gave me when i watched it for first time.
Star gate was all about finding out what's through the next gate each episode.
>Babylon 5
power gap >Stargate (all the shows?) >FarScape >Star Trek TNG >Battlestar Galactica (guessing nuBSG) >Firefly
B5 has no competition at the top.
If you like FarScape, you fall in love with it, if you don't like it, you hate it with a passion.
nuBSG was a let down toward the end, the quality dropped massively. Pegasus and Resurrection Ship are still some of the best scifi to ever be put on screen though.
03:11 still gives me chills to this day
Those were separate thoughts, but I can see how it can be read as one. I meant If you like FarScape, you fall in love with FarScape, if you don't like it, you hate it with a passion. There is no middle ground usually. People are either "omg humans are superior, blue breasts are awesome and Scorpius is top 5 villain of all time" or "wtf who watches goddamn puppets are you crazy this sucks". Personally I love it. Crichton and Aeryn were cast perfectly and had so much chemistry it really worked for me and Scorpius is awesome all around.
Farscape is the best but I don't know how to rank stargate firefly and b5, firefly is 100% solid but it's only 1 season long, stargate and b5 have many more flaws but also higher highs, especially stargate since it has so many seasons
haven't watched any star trek apart from some enterprise as a kid
I petition that we add Dark Matter to the list for these threads. I don't care if it's at the bottom of everyone's lists as long as it gets talked about more. I'm still pissed it got canceled so Killjoys could live.
it was definitively overrated for about 15 years, but it's been over 20 years now and it's swung back around to being underrated. Mostly the cast chemistry is unmatched.
Farscape>Stargate SG1>TNG>Firefly>Babylon 5>Cattlecar Galactica
Farscape > DS9 > TNG > B5 > Firefly > SG1 > BSG

lol might as well say Star Trek Voyager mogs them all, or maybe Andromeda

No, B5 is a trash show.
It's not worth your time, and even less your money.
I hope your fricking trolling, or maybe you just got filtered.
As someone that's only watched the first episode, the show does not make a very good impression.
u got filtered it gets marginally better
>u got filtered
That's fine.
It takes a while to rev up, and it's hardly the only sci fi series this applies to

Dead franchise.
I'll check it out on streaming. I'm to lazy to pirate these days unless I'm really hyped to see something.
1. Babylon 5.
2. Firefly.
Firefly doesn't even belong in that list
>still reeing at Josh Wheaton in the year of our lord 2023

LEXX bros, where we at?
In the "unique but terrible" tier
for me its cleopatra 2525 (minus the black chick)
>Xena crossed with The Terminator, Charlie's Angels and The Matrix.

That's far too generous. The show launches itself into the sun.
You're just being a contarian
It's a downgrade for sure, but it's still better tv than a lot of stuff in the last 23 years
>You're just being a contarian
No, it's just genuinely bad.

Babylon 5 is the best.
B5 is objectively good
At this point I'm entirely convinced that B5 posting is just an elaborate shitpost
B5 is good you likely haven't tolerated through to S2 which is when it actually starts
I've seen the whole thing, unfortunately. While the londor/gkar episodes are usually good the rest of the show is just a trainwreck and ends terribly.
Farscape is actually very mid and is incredibly overrated by this board and Reddit
Farscape is actually very great and not at all overrated by this board or Reddit
no matter what I can't see how firefy wouldn't be ranked last regardless of preference

Expanse should be in this list
It's the best real scifi tv show in the last 15 years
4 5 6 are fairly bad, 5 especially
I petition that we add Dark Matter to the list for these threads. I don't care if it's at the bottom of everyone's lists as long as it gets talked about more. I'm still pissed it got canceled so Killjoys could live.

Firefly barely counts as scifi imo its Who tier.
