If Lucy didn't have weird timespace bending psipowers, it'd be a very different comic. But speculating about EF alternate routes is difficult, since both paths portrayed by Taeshi are bizarre gordian knots that defy logic and sense.
I don't get it. Taeshi knows she's writing every character as an unlikable butthole, she constantly says as much in the commentary, but she still keeps doing it.
I know "butthole characters" are often popular break-outs, but you can't have an entire cast of buttholes.
Most "butthole characters" have major redeeming traits. They're buttholes, but they're smart/capable/loyal/determined or whatever.
The BCB main characters have had all their likable traits sanded off.
Paulo is no longer charming, confident, or interested in self-improvement. Mike is no longer kind, determined, or smart. Daisy is no longer shy or empathetic. Lucy is no longer sweet and caring underneath, nor a secret romantic.
Meanwhile all their bad traits have been magnified. Mike is a turbo-pushover, Paulo is a manwhoring jackass, Daisy is a vortex of envy and desperation, and Lucy is psychotic and delusional.
Everything said about them out of hate, has become retroactively true. The December rant is true, Abbey was right, Tess was right, etc.

It would be based, but I don't think it's a viable option anymore.
IMO, the comic should have had "the table" splinter apart after they got drunk and talked about Lucy's suicide attempt.
If it was to continue after that, then "the Paulo show" should have ended once he realized Abbey had a point and decided to stop rushing into relationships, then the comic should have have moved on to some other character's post-table arc.
But after IRL years of the same drama between these characters without them changing, why would they ever?

She knows they're buttholes, Taeshi thinks its funny when characters are hurtful to each other for no reason, but she thinks she wrote them as flawed but sympathetic characters. When she's confronted with the fact that the audience doesn't see them the same way she gets very angry.
It worked for a while for her, but she didn't realize it was because she picked up weirdos who self-insert as Paulo and Lucy and they'd never sympathize with Mike. When it finally came out in the open she had a meltdown and quit the discord.

Gimp settings: Cats and Drama font, size 43-48, with negative vertical spacing of about -16 and negative horizontal spacing if about -0.75 to -1.5. I put a layer of semitransparent wide over the page, then re-do the dialogue, tweak the settings to march the original text as well as I can, set the white overlay to entirely opaque and then edit the text.
The font has a whole bunch of issues that I'm too lazy to deal with (the period and exclamation mark are spaced wrong and too small)

Well I mainly use GIMP cause it is free, and when I was 12 or 13 I burnt my bridges with all adobe products cause I was a stupid kid that got the year long license for flash but then somehow that was the time I saw all the youtubers complaining about it and how you also needed at least 3 other adobe programs for it to actually have a "smooth work flow". And a grudge with a product/company never hurt anybody so might as well find a suitable alternative in GIMP.

anon. Gimp is more like lightweight photoshop, while Krita is made for digital art, perhaps you should give try, might be worthwhile for you. Also, keep in mind that Gimp is barely maintained and will not be getting fratures anytime sson while Krita is under active development.

My impression is that Sue never hated Mike, she just felt bad for Lucy.
But Sue doesn't have the context of how awful Lucy had gotten, nor did she see the post-play apology Mike made, nor is she entirely aware of how awful and vindictive Lucy's been since she got back.
Presumably it'd be a real blow for Sue if she realized how little Lucy actually thinks of her, but I kind of doubt that's going to be relevant. Lucy being a judgemental butthole is constant and everyone forgives her for it, for some reason.

Paulo does like Daisy and we've known that since the tail end of the vacation arc when David briefly convinced Paulo to try courting her. But because Paulo considers himself unworthy of her, she is never on his radar as a serious love interest.
That is how it's supposed to go, anyway. Taeshi obviously wants this to be one of those situations where the character realizes his soulmate was right there in front of him the whole time. Her narrative incompetence, however, has turned Daisy into Paulo's de-facto last resort. It's even worse from Daisy's end since it's so easy to read her sudden infatuation with Paulo as last-guy-available syndrome.

James just feels like a waste of time at best, and queerbait at worst, but I think my real issue is that his existence is proof that the "soul" of the webcomic I got into 10 years ago does not exist anymore and is not coming back.
There's never really been any exploration of a relationship between Daisy and the other three, 95% of the comic is Paulo chasing Lucy, Lucy moping over Mike and Mike not really caring about anything because he's got Sandy, so I don't know how you got that interpretation.

The status quo seems to be that Paulo puts her on some kind of pedestal, Lucy is as friendly with her as she can be to a competitor for Mike's attention and seed, and Sue+Amaya don't seem to interact with her much. Mike doesn't exactly think highly of her either but they're kind of over each other at the moment. They all tolerate her constant self deprecation except for Paulo who gets weird about it.
I'm more interested with how Daisy and the older girls are doing. She hung out with Rachel and Jessica for a while but you never see them together outside of cheerleading anymore.

It really chafes my ass knowing that she's more than capable and willing to go back to doing a more soulful art style to make the faux-amateurish visuals match the actual amateurish writing.
Imagine that same page in the current art-style and the ultra clean line art, coloring, textured backgrounds, and digital effects would just clash hard with the horribly proportioned character design. There's an obvious disconnect between one skillset over the other and just screams "I can do better, but this is all you're going to get".
The old stuff isn't that much better written than this but I can tolerate some cringe if it feels like there's some sincerity and honest effort behind it.

alright so now that all this new info and recap has sunk in, I've realized a few things
first, idk how many people that enjoy this webcomic are tall straight white males but that's what i am and I'm now realizing that I always empathized/self inserted as paulo more than Mike.
now that i learned that Mike is actually an unapolegetic cuck, I have zero interest in him as a character and don't give a shit
now that I learned Lucy and Paulo had sex, i want Paulo x Lucy MORE to happen because I'm planning on marrying the person I lost my virginity to, and like I said I self inserted as Paulo over the years
but after reading the chapter on the Ferris Wheel and then the recent slap chapter, both of which reaffirm the exact same thing: that Lucy only fricked Paulo as a fricked up pre-suicide parting gift and there is no reason to wait around for Paulo x Lucy
and that combined with mike x daisy being resolved and not giving a shit about literally any other side makes me basically completely finished with the webcomic. i genuinely have a feeling of almost-closure now.

Well I know the only real chance for it to end is senior graduation (why end it junior year when you can end it senior year?). Also I think Abbey and Jasmine are cute and should end up together (because Abbey already sunk S.S. Daisy). Daisy and Augustus would be nice because I think he's actually grown and Lucy would have to admit that she's not all-knowing (and then Tess could come back if Augustus goes to the same college as her). Paulo, Lucy, and Mike... no idea, and giving them to the track team just seems like a cop out so them being single at the end of highschool should be enough of the "bittersweet" ending in there. Amaya and Mike seem really cute together, so maybe that could be the epilogue. That's all I really got right now

Not very smart of her. Younger Taeshi was a noticeably better writer than her current self, so whatever "meaningful gesture" she comes up with to replace that line will be inferior.
Apparently she thinks going for the Most Dramatic Thing is a good way to write this comic. Eternal Flame proves she is damn wrong because it could not have come about any other way. I figure Sperg Mike had become a boring treadmill and she wanted to shake things up a little or progress the plot an inch. But not too much! Can't kill the goose that lays the golden eggs! A stable status quo was required and it's not as if she likes coming up with anything truly new. So we got a nonsensical unpopular mess followed by a mixture of damage control, Paisy shipping, and Mike torment.
If you're gonna go that route, Rachel's Party post-lucy's suicide would be the better cut off point.
Up to that point, characters hadn't been flanderized much, set-ups still had pay off, and there was a relative dearth of filler.
After that point characters start getting random resets, things are forgotten until they're next relevant, and tons of stuff goes nowhere.
i don't even remember anything that happens at Rachel's party but I somehow remember that you're right about the comic still being enjoyable during that point

But it's much easier to write dialogue and situations if Mike is the VN protagonist, at least there you have a starting point to springboard off of. While with a blank slate you're limited in how the the girls will see and react to him at first.

Well I mainly use GIMP cause it is free, and when I was 12 or 13 I burnt my bridges with all adobe products cause I was a stupid kid that got the year long license for flash but then somehow that was the time I saw all the youtubers complaining about it and how you also needed at least 3 other adobe programs for it to actually have a "smooth work flow". And a grudge with a product/company never hurt anybody so might as well find a suitable alternative in GIMP.

Paulo does like Daisy and we've known that since the tail end of the vacation arc when David briefly convinced Paulo to try courting her. But because Paulo considers himself unworthy of her, she is never on his radar as a serious love interest.
That is how it's supposed to go, anyway. Taeshi obviously wants this to be one of those situations where the character realizes his soulmate was right there in front of him the whole time. Her narrative incompetence, however, has turned Daisy into Paulo's de-facto last resort. It's even worse from Daisy's end since it's so easy to read her sudden infatuation with Paulo as last-guy-available syndrome.
Both Daisy and Paulo come across as sad, desperate, and clingy. They both have jealousy issues, which is hypocritical of them, since they both have wandering eyes.
Put all that together with the fact they have no chemistry whatsoever, and it's just a sad, flaccid ship.

Daisy's relationship was explored plenty, and the conclusion was that nobody *really* cared enough about Daisy to step in while she was being groomed, and she's now treated like a child because of it. There was that whole birthday chapter where Daisy and Paulo sort of told each other that they want to bang but neither got the point
The status quo seems to be that Paulo puts her on some kind of pedestal, Lucy is as friendly with her as she can be to a competitor for Mike's attention and seed, and Sue+Amaya don't seem to interact with her much. Mike doesn't exactly think highly of her either but they're kind of over each other at the moment. They all tolerate her constant self deprecation except for Paulo who gets weird about it.
I'm more interested with how Daisy and the older girls are doing. She hung out with Rachel and Jessica for a while but you never see them together outside of cheerleading anymore.

It really chafes my ass knowing that she's more than capable and willing to go back to doing a more soulful art style to make the faux-amateurish visuals match the actual amateurish writing.
Imagine that same page in the current art-style and the ultra clean line art, coloring, textured backgrounds, and digital effects would just clash hard with the horribly proportioned character design. There's an obvious disconnect between one skillset over the other and just screams "I can do better, but this is all you're going to get".
The old stuff isn't that much better written than this but I can tolerate some cringe if it feels like there's some sincerity and honest effort behind it.

Nothings really happened or changed since Lucy's suicide, Mike's still guilty about it and vaguely misses Lucy but not enough to do anything about it, Paulos still pining over Lucy and crushing on Daisy but not enough to do anything about it, Daisy's still desperate for any boy not named abbey and is still getting turned down at every opportunity.
Every "plot" that was introduced between then and now was quickly wrapped up or hastily dropped, so don't worry about it, just read from Eternal Flame and you're fine.

alright so now that all this new info and recap has sunk in, I've realized a few things
first, idk how many people that enjoy this webcomic are tall straight white males but that's what i am and I'm now realizing that I always empathized/self inserted as paulo more than Mike.
now that i learned that Mike is actually an unapolegetic cuck, I have zero interest in him as a character and don't give a shit
now that I learned Lucy and Paulo had sex, i want Paulo x Lucy MORE to happen because I'm planning on marrying the person I lost my virginity to, and like I said I self inserted as Paulo over the years
but after reading the chapter on the Ferris Wheel and then the recent slap chapter, both of which reaffirm the exact same thing: that Lucy only fricked Paulo as a fricked up pre-suicide parting gift and there is no reason to wait around for Paulo x Lucy
and that combined with mike x daisy being resolved and not giving a shit about literally any other side makes me basically completely finished with the webcomic. i genuinely have a feeling of almost-closure now.

Well I know the only real chance for it to end is senior graduation (why end it junior year when you can end it senior year?). Also I think Abbey and Jasmine are cute and should end up together (because Abbey already sunk S.S. Daisy). Daisy and Augustus would be nice because I think he's actually grown and Lucy would have to admit that she's not all-knowing (and then Tess could come back if Augustus goes to the same college as her). Paulo, Lucy, and Mike... no idea, and giving them to the track team just seems like a cop out so them being single at the end of highschool should be enough of the "bittersweet" ending in there. Amaya and Mike seem really cute together, so maybe that could be the epilogue. That's all I really got right now

Apparently she thinks going for the Most Dramatic Thing is a good way to write this comic. Eternal Flame proves she is damn wrong because it could not have come about any other way. I figure Sperg Mike had become a boring treadmill and she wanted to shake things up a little or progress the plot an inch. But not too much! Can't kill the goose that lays the golden eggs! A stable status quo was required and it's not as if she likes coming up with anything truly new. So we got a nonsensical unpopular mess followed by a mixture of damage control, Paisy shipping, and Mike torment.
If you're gonna go that route, Rachel's Party post-lucy's suicide would be the better cut off point.
Up to that point, characters hadn't been flanderized much, set-ups still had pay off, and there was a relative dearth of filler.
After that point characters start getting random resets, things are forgotten until they're next relevant, and tons of stuff goes nowhere.
i don't even remember anything that happens at Rachel's party but I somehow remember that you're right about the comic still being enjoyable during that point

Two reasons: First, Mike is a sadsack who I don't want to self-insert as, and
Second, Mike has prior relations and baggage which make him unsuitable as a free agent VN-protag-anon.
This anon is right. Much as I'd like to see Mike succeed as a character, he is indeed an impotent little twerp who has been lobotomized and neutered. It's clear that he has no personal agency beyond what the narrative demands.
But it's much easier to write dialogue and situations if Mike is the VN protagonist, at least there you have a starting point to springboard off of. While with a blank slate you're limited in how the the girls will see and react to him at first.
Then you would need an obvious break point in the narrative which grants him a spine.
Given that chart has multiple good and bad routes instead of linear story, break points in narrative already implied. Just move some of the endings into "Mike didn't grow a spine despite having options and chances to do so" category, most of the bad ones already sound close to that
No, just the opposite: if Mike was the protag, you'd be locked into writing options that are in character, and have to devote the first half of each route to clearing the baggage he has with the cast and explaining why the girls would be interested in him.
Meanwhile, with Anon-cat, you could write whatever options you want: aloof, flirtatious, witty, weird, whatever. And you can have the girls be open to a relationship without needing to untangle a bunch of bullshit first.
You'd only really have to do that with Lucy and maybe Daisy. And a little talk with Sue. All the others are free game, especially with how Mike used to be really popular with girls.
This feels like "anon" is just replacing Mike who decided to actually give dating girls a try while he still has some time left. Works even after EF and other mess, would also allow you to add more double-route options like Stacy-Katey and maaaaybe James-Paulo
