I really wish the comic had ended on Breaking Up, because I wouldn't be reading it to this day.
also, maybe Taeshi would've stopped reliving her shitty relationship just for the free comic material, broken up with Suitcase, fixed herself, found someone that's not met on the internet back when both of them were preteens, started a new comic, just been happier.
She's just another internet purgatorian that outlived her prime and should've just quit, but can't since she has no other source of income as big as this.
It's sad now and I hope I'll do myself a favour and stop reading the never-ending status quo. >inb4 see you next week
Threadly reminder that Mike did literally nothing wrong.
Hi Oddguy
place your bets:
things get awkward between Polo and James
or
Mike will loudly make a fool of himself again over a bad night and intrusive Lucy thoughts
It feels like Taeshi had no idea how to write Mike dealing with the guilt of provoking Lucy's suicide attempt, so she wrote this different frick-up for him to feel bad about instead that presumably she finds easier to make fit with the MxL endgame. Maybe I'm speaking too soon and the suicide attempt will come up again later, but I have a hunch it won't.
It's funny because the thing Mike did that was so bad was get taken advantage of by Lucy while he was having an emotional breakdown (word of God says Lucy initiated that shit) and then not give her the relationship she felt owed afterwards. I mean, having just written that out, I realize it sounds a lot like the whole PxL play situation minus the sex.
Smile and agree with her insane assessments the next time she lashes out to push people away. That'll throw her off-balance, which tends to unclog her ears.
Because by rights he shouldn't feel guilty. The guilt he feels is something he should just throw off, albeit it would be difficult. Lucy has no right to blame her brush with death on Mike and not on herself. This is what Eternal Flame offers; it's all Mike's fault and Lucy dindu nuffin.
To me it's more like Taeshi has no idea how to write the story she wants if the suicide attempt is lent gravitas. The one thing it seems to impact is Lucy's personal life, i.e. her family bugging her with their babysitting. So we have this compartmentalization of plotpoints that defies basic logic. It's almost hard to blame Taeshi when she's grown accustomed to a readership that will eat up whatever slop she dishes out.
She wrote the suicide attempt when she was at a really low point with her mental health and was even in a hospital for a bit, iirc it was the where the comic was going to end. Her not wanting to or knowing how to deal with it is just a big lesson in not making rash decisions when emotions are high.
It wouldn't but I could see a less competent writer struggling with it, especially if they were trying to steer away from their comic being a degrassi/cw show clone and wanted it to be more like a kid friendly slice of life anime romance. Really the biggest drama in BCB these days IS the romance. All the sex is gone, nobody is worried about their lives after high school and Alejandro might not ever come back. Abbey basically doesn't exist anymore and Augustus' broken home is probably never going to be brought up again unless Lucy's family officially adopts him.
I will repeat: BCB recession AU. Lots of opportunities for characters to experience actual stress, help out or screw over their friends, ask for help/be vulnerable, etc etc
Screw Alejandro, that was a shit plot. Either have him murder Lucy or just write him off. Have a page where Augustus finds Alejandro's+Toby's mugshots in a newspaper that puts them in jail for 30 years after shooting a cop, Lucy and Augustus hug, share a cry, no more villain plot. Two or three pages is all you need to wrap up the plot.
>Have a page where Augustus finds Alejandro's+Toby's mugshots in a newspaper that puts them in jail for 30 years after shooting a cop
That'd be a good idea and I'm surprised Tae hasn't done it yet. It's such a simple solution.

I say go in the opposite direction. Say frick it and shove BCB off the high dive. Send it plummeting into the anime deep end. Pump up Alejandro's villainy. Whip him into a murderous frothing rage when he finds out Augustus shacked up with Lucy. Have him blindside them both out of the blue. Corner the two in a life-or-death situation. "Redeem" Mike by forcing him into a lethal showdown. Either let him die or give the kid a mental breakdown after he kills Alejandro. Shake things up.

Shit happening out of nowhere is useful for inciting incidents and plot complications. Do they find out the bad guys are in jail and then seize that opportunity to do something they couldn't before, like try to get something Alejandro stole from Augustus years ago? No, which is frustrating. Taeshi seems to be under the impression her endless cope plot enthralls. So there's no reason to innovate.
Should've just rewritten it as Lucy moving away or something then, as of now it barely adds anything to the story and she already rewrote a whole bunch of stuff anyway. Instead of Mike running after her in the hospital make it a bus terminal or something.
Imagine dating the cutest girl in the entire school who just wants to snuggle with you in content silence and take you out to movies that haven't even opened yet.
Taeshi wants a mute character but can't be arsed to learn basic sign language to compensate and add depth to her character.
The laziness of this b***h..
I mean, having just written that out, I realize it sounds a lot like the whole PxL play situation minus the sex.
Lucy's suicide was always for melodrama. It served to have people stroke Lucy's ego and care more about her moody-tantrums. Without any substance
or context - Lucy magically gets better from ripping open her side and bleeding out. No back injury, no broken bones, no internal bleeding or lasting damage. She is very very vaguely hinted at possibly being in therapy or at least in a psych ward.
But we never see her actively go to therapy or anything. The fact her parents just put her in the same school around the same peers that triggered her suicide is so fricking atrociously short-sighted. No parents would ever do that.
BUT, we HAVE to have Lucy back in Roseville High to continue the MXSXL drama and have her be worshipped again. Taeshi is also weird about never ever giving POV from Lucy save for maybe the suicide attempt and confrontation with Alejandro.
Because the point of Lucy is not to be a fully fleshed out character with flaws, but a trophy to be won and admired. But also feel bad for her because omg guys she is so tortured and has so many emotions!1
The only worthwhile part of this chapter was Mike getting further back on track as a character by apologizing to the group. It was also nice to get reminded he has other positive qualities which have been ignored for maybe a decade now, even though the vehicle was clumsy and heavy-handed.
Frick that bullshit. None of these characters are redeemable.
The only worthwhile part of this chapter was Mike getting further back on track as a character by apologizing to the group. It was also nice to get reminded he has other positive qualities which have been ignored for maybe a decade now, even though the vehicle was clumsy and heavy-handed.
So, what was the point of this whole ass chapter ? We know Paulo ain't gonna end up with a dude so whats the point ?
You know what would be ballsy ? To let Paulo actually explore his sexuality and basically go out with James. To actually see him struggle and ultimately accept he's a homosexual. But I know Taesh won't because she can't write nuance for shit
I was literally about to post the same thing. There's no arc, there's no development. There's a setup for a strong conflict - Paulo's coworker slash mini-crush shows up and sticks to Mike instead, prompting Paulo's revelation to Daisy, and that should have led to some sort of action, plan, or event - but instead we see Mike crying on the phone for the billionth time, and he does nothing, and then the chapter ends.
Like, complain all you want about the Paulo and Daisy show, but at least shit happens to them. The last big decision Lucy made was getting her family to adopt Augustus, and I don't think Mike has done anything notable since he push Lucy to her suicide attempt, and even that's debatable since he didn't make a choice so much as continue to be Mike about things.
Mike fails the Sexy Lamp Test and Sandy is the only one who realizes it. That makes her the smartest character on the whole cast. Fight me.
The last thing that happened in the Paulo and Daisy was the drama when Abbey and Daisy broke up because he punched Paulo. Since then it's just been sterile flirting and talking about being gay.
Paulo only talks about gay, but never actually IS gay. He never does anything gay outside of randomly fantasizing about dudes.
What is the fricking point besides brownie points? It's such a fricking waste and filler for the toxic-hetero-bullshittery of Mike x Lucy x Sandy garbage.
[...]
You know what would be ballsy ? To let Paulo actually explore his sexuality and basically go out with James. To actually see him struggle and ultimately accept he's a homosexual. But I know Taesh won't because she can't write nuance for shit
That would never happen. Daisy and Paulo will just whinge and debate the state of being theoretically bisexual, but it's all really smoke and mirrors to keep the shills locked in.
Just like all the Lucy x Augustus pandering until he was like "Oh lolz I love you like a sister".
Nah unless Taeshi had a brain transplant she isn't gonna be able to write anything sufficently.
She is a lost cause.
It wouldn't but I could see a less competent writer struggling with it, especially if they were trying to steer away from their comic being a degrassi/cw show clone and wanted it to be more like a kid friendly slice of life anime romance. Abbey basically doesn't exist anymore and Augustus' broken home is probably never going to be brought up again unless Lucy's family officially adopts him.
Yeah taking out any drugs or sex took out anything remotely interesting. Instead we just get inane bullshit like Mike joining the track team or Lucy worrying about her SATs or some fricking boring shit.
The characters are stuck in a loop and nothing ground-breaking ever happens. They are neither interesting enough nor likeable enough to have any impact on the audience.
I will repeat: BCB recession AU. Lots of opportunities for characters to experience actual stress, help out or screw over their friends, ask for help/be vulnerable, etc etc

I think she'd not even service that much, she'd just pretend like it never happened. Like many many loose plot theads.
She wrote the suicide attempt when she was at a really low point with her mental health and was even in a hospital for a bit, iirc it was the where the comic was going to end. Her not wanting to or knowing how to deal with it is just a big lesson in not making rash decisions when emotions are high.
She should've never made a webcomic in the first place.

I wish Lucy died everyday
This is Lucy, do something to her to adjust her attitude.
Every time she lashes out again we drown one of her pets
Convince all of his friends to treat her the way she treats them and see if she actually likes them more or finds herself to be unsufferable
There's a strong risk she'd fail to recognize her self-fulfilled prophesy and just take it as more evidence she's right.
Smile and agree with her insane assessments the next time she lashes out to push people away. That'll throw her off-balance, which tends to unclog her ears.
>do something to her to adjust her attitude.
🙂
What was she thinking?
Honestly these two a made for each other.
Hey now, Alejandro deserves better! There's a reason Augustus wears a collar.
Do you think Aug regularly "took one for the team" ?
Melanie got away and we haven't seen Alejandro hang out with a new girlfriend, so...
Good for him.
She was envious of Sue
Note to self: consider having Alejandro and Lucy go back to where they first met and have a do-over.
Jesus fricking Christ Square. You genius.
Make her go apron shopping with mom.
Mike as a character would still feel incredibly guilty regardless because he feels responsible. That's just how he is, or is supposed to be.

It would be pretty funny for Taeshi to bait and switch Suitcase this hard on Paulo x Daisy, just to spite him.
You know what would be ballsy ? To let Paulo actually explore his sexuality and basically go out with James. To actually see him struggle and ultimately accept he's a homosexual. But I know Taesh won't because she can't write nuance for shit
god I frickin wish
That would never happen. Daisy and Paulo will just whinge and debate the state of being theoretically bisexual, but it's all really smoke and mirrors to keep the shills locked in.
Just like all the Lucy x Augustus pandering until he was like "Oh lolz I love you like a sister".
Do you think the comic would significaly be better if it wasn't about the patreonbux ? Or do you think Taesh is an hack through and through ?
Nah unless Taeshi had a brain transplant she isn't gonna be able to write anything sufficently.
She is a lost cause.
I think she'd not even service that much, she'd just pretend like it never happened. Like many many loose plot theads.
She should've never made a webcomic in the first place.
>Like, complain all you want about the Paulo and Daisy show, but at least shit happens to them
This. That's why I started to like Paulo.
Is this the whole comic? this same loop over and over again? Taeshi's life is actually hell.
>Taeshi's life is actually hell
It's more of a featureless safe space of her own construction. She gets to play Pokemon, avoid rational thought, and enjoy consistent praise for indulging her unhealthy obsessions. To her it's probably heaven.
to me, willful ignorance is worse than death
Monday I will be releasing the 'Why I Was Banned' video. It will be one year to the day I was banned. Prepare.
Jasmine: every Sunday morning, so she can ask the priest for forgiveness and get it over
The rest: not often enough to resolve the sexual tension, except maybe Rachel
I really fricking hate the muttonchops-looking "hair" on female anthros.
It's so much worse than just making them ""bald"". So ugly.
Mike's biggest character flaw is that he's wasting so much time on Lucy of all people
No, it's that he's a pathetic cuckold with no other defining character trait
Alej fricking his way through her house, so that there's not a single room in her home that doesn't have memories of her and him
Stop, I can only get so hard right now
Jannie's want Lucy to be respected.
There's still this nice tree out there in the park...
So many ideas, so few chapters before I want to move on to the next segment of the story. Next chapter is all about white cat punishment though.
Would you say this punishment will be the midpoint before the second plot point
It's more of a little side venture to make sure the white cat suffers. Gotta give her a good reason not to become wienery or complacent.
People form the strongest memories whilst under the fight or flight response after all.
Couldn't think of anything original
Wait your turn
Fine
Wow. So in the, about a year and half or so, since I last popped in here (until this last Wednesday), almost nothing has changed or has just totally reverted?
Hahaha, that’s hilarious.
I'm still maintaining we should get a "Paulo gets a gun" story arc
But why?
Could be fun
I mean what would he do with it? Just have it?
MikexLucy was never good
it had so much potential but Sandy RUINED it.
sandy has ruined this entire comic
Woah, calm down there Taeshi
why would I say that about my own comic
breasts and ass
I mean I also agree.
More like Taeshi ruined it with her insane takes on how love and relationships.
Lucy, Sandy and Tae ruined it
What's something you guys LIKE about Lucy?
She's not Sandy
Okay, okay. What about Lucy makes her better than Sandy?
At least she doesn't cuck Mike
But yeah, both should suck a fat one
>At least she doesn't cuck Mike
Still used goods
nothing in particular
she's just very rapeable
She has respect for fine art.
Frick forgot image.
THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE SUMMER OF MIKE
Summer isn't over yet, brother. Or sister. Or they/themer.
