It's hilarious too because once the movies in they're both dead in the water, no matter how hard they try unless they're going to put genuine effort in the comics no one cares about Miles and even less so Gwen

Well obviously, Bendis pushed this pairing as hard as he could. No other writer at the time wanted to touch it with a ten foot pole, but since spiderverse was being written around the same time and neither character really had anything going for them they included it in the movie.

I liked the little bit of romance they had in the sequel, but in general I kind of prefer the idea of them not getting together, at least, not yet. I want a Gwen solo story because I enjoy that character a lot before she becomes cemented as "Miles' love interest"

To be honest, it should have been with Peter. Who has that panel of Spider-Gwen and Peter saying they will look out for each other because they both lost the other in their universes? It made more sense for it to still be Peter x Gwen but in a bittersweet version.

Miles uses another man's name and romances a version of that same man's dead girlfriend. That's something a villain would do to frick with Peter. So, I find it disgusting.

That said, it's a perfect reflection of the creative void that is Miles Morales. He was created solely to be Spiderman, but black. That is what he is. He has no unique identity. Not even his own love interest.

They literally just work in a superficial level, if you start thinking a bit about all the implications, it gets weird, if they wanted him to get with a gwen from another universe, they should have changed her in a way you don't associate her with the gwen we all now, but that didn't happen, she is just the same, but with powers, and that scene where she told Miles all the Gwens get with spiderman was so fricking weird, was that supposed to be romantic?

      Anonymous

This. It is my main gripe with the relationship. If you think hard enough it just becomes weird. It also makes Miles line of him doing his own thing ridiculous when he is going out with his mentor's dead girlfriend from another universe.

        Anonymous

Miles literally doesn't have anything to himself. His love interest, villains, and 95% of his supporting cast are all just either hand me downs or shitty knockoffs of Peter's.

      Anonymous

      >They literally just work in a superficial level

I'm starting to think that that what Spider-Man in general runs on, of all Superhero fantasy potential, Spider-Man is generally about the most shallow ways to make Peter or Miles a good superficial girlfriend and friendship dynamic with anyone as a superhero, possibly more than batman and wolverine. Spider-Man runs on superficial niche shit with gimmicks that vary depending on the writer and the fad.

They do Lana so dirty. She doesn't even exist anymore. She actually lives in the city but they pulled Kamala from Jersey to help with the gang war instead. They'd rather pull in Pete's dead girlfriend from another dimension to date Miles than make Bombshell an option, even though she's the best option. It's tragic.

    It's lame.
If they really want Miles to "Be his own thing", he needs to actually be his own thing.
Stop calling himself Spider-Man and utilizing the Spider-Man identity. Lean into the electro venom shit.
Stop wearing costumes that are reminiscent of Peter.
    Stop sharing villains with Peter.
Stop patrolling the same neighborhoods as Peter.
Stop letting him dip into Peter's supporting cast.
Atop trying to give him a version of Peter's love interest.

If they ever truly want people to accept Miles, on his own, without needing him to be surrounded by a literal multiverse of Peter Parkers, he needs to have a Dick Grayson moment. He sincerely needs to tell Peter he's done being Spider-Man, frick off to a new city, and take up a new name.
Because he will never, EVER be able to do his own thing. Because he will never be Spider-Man. He will only every be Miles Morales. And watching the start of this gang war shit where Miles flips out on Peter for not being more available and going to super therapy over it shows that even Marvel thinks Miles is pathetic and unable to stand on his own, even while telling you in the same breath he can

Dick Grayson still isn’t his own thing. Don’t understand why you fanboys don’t fricking get this. He’s a Batman character, and he always will be. He’s part of the Batman IP, not his own.

        >Dick Grayson still isn’t his own thing. Don’t understand why you fanboys don’t fricking get this. He’s a Batman character, and he always will be. He’s part of the Batman IP, not his own.
Dick Grayson is Nightwing. He's part of the Batman mythos yes, but he's no longer tethered to Bruce the way he would have been had he remained Robin. He doesn't regularly seek Bruce's affirmation, he doesn't call himself Batman (They tried this and it didn't fricking work) and freak out when Bruce isn't available to give him advice. He has autonomy.
Nightwing has his own comic books where he operates in his own city with his own supporting cast.
Nightwing is the leader on a team book where he interacts with heroes Bruce typically doesn't interact with, and when Bruce does interact with them it's minimal and often not that cordial.
Nightwing has his own love interests, primarily in Babs and Starfire. He doesn't need a younger version of Selina Kyle from Earth 40 where she's Nightwing instead and then they have an awkward little will they won't they thing going on while Bruce watches awkwardly.

Miles can still be part of the Spider-Man mythos without being up Peter's butthole just like Dick can be part of the Batman mythos without being up Bruce's.

            >Dick Grayson is tethered Batman EVERYWHERE ELSE

              Anonymous

Batman’s still a major character in YJ and TTGo’s a parody. Dick is still seen as Robin ie Batman’s sidekick by the average person. Plus, YJ isn’t really that popular.

                >Batman’s still a major character in YJ
And Dick's independent from him for most of it
                >and TTGo’s a parody.
And? When will we see Miles running 10 years of a highly successful parody show, with his own non-Spider-Man name, and costume, and villains, and personality?
                >Dick is still seen as Robin ie Batman’s sidekick by the average person.
Anyone who knows the Robins by name knows Dick is his own thing by now, the opinion of anyone who doesn't is irrelevant in this discussion. There's a reason why Robin's personal name in TDKR was Robin.
                >Plus, YJ isn’t really that popular.

They look like they created to be a pair despite coming 5 years apart. Their costumes compliment each other so well they pop and look great together on the page.
As characters they don't work their age differences and personalities don't gel.
They should really think of rebooting Gwen to be younger 1:1 in age with Miles in 616 or their own universe, no pun intended Marvel would get more mileage gettng Gwen out if Earth-65 which has run its course and her indie rock chick thing, which was probably a fetish of her creator, never caught on since music in a soundless media never works.
