Well obviously, Bendis pushed this pairing as hard as he could. No other writer at the time wanted to touch it with a ten foot pole, but since spiderverse was being written around the same time and neither character really had anything going for them they included it in the movie.

I liked the little bit of romance they had in the sequel, but in general I kind of prefer the idea of them not getting together, at least, not yet. I want a Gwen solo story because I enjoy that character a lot before she becomes cemented as "Miles' love interest"

To be honest, it should have been with Peter. Who has that panel of Spider-Gwen and Peter saying they will look out for each other because they both lost the other in their universes? It made more sense for it to still be Peter x Gwen but in a bittersweet version.

They literally just work in a superficial level, if you start thinking a bit about all the implications, it gets weird, if they wanted him to get with a gwen from another universe, they should have changed her in a way you don't associate her with the gwen we all now, but that didn't happen, she is just the same, but with powers, and that scene where she told Miles all the Gwens get with spiderman was so fricking weird, was that supposed to be romantic?
This. It is my main gripe with the relationship. If you think hard enough it just becomes weird. It also makes Miles line of him doing his own thing ridiculous when he is going out with his mentor's dead girlfriend from another universe.
Miles literally doesn't have anything to himself. His love interest, villains, and 95% of his supporting cast are all just either hand me downs or shitty knockoffs of Peter's.

I'm starting to think that that what Spider-Man in general runs on, of all Superhero fantasy potential, Spider-Man is generally about the most shallow ways to make Peter or Miles a good superficial girlfriend and friendship dynamic with anyone as a superhero, possibly more than batman and wolverine. Spider-Man runs on superficial niche shit with gimmicks that vary depending on the writer and the fad.
They do Lana so dirty. She doesn't even exist anymore. She actually lives in the city but they pulled Kamala from Jersey to help with the gang war instead. Dick Grayson is Nightwing. He's part of the Batman mythos yes, but he's no longer tethered to Bruce the way he would have been had he remained Robin. He doesn't regularly seek Bruce's affirmation, he doesn't call himself Batman (They tried this and it didn't fricking work) and freak out when Bruce isn't available to give him advice. He has autonomy.
Nightwing has his own comic books where he operates in his own city with his own supporting cast.
Nightwing is the leader on a team book where he interacts with heroes Bruce typically doesn't interact with, and when Bruce does interact with them it's minimal and often not that cordial.
Nightwing has his own love interests, primarily in Babs and Starfire. He doesn't need a younger version of Selina Kyle from Earth 40 where she's Nightwing instead and then they have an awkward little will they won't they thing going on while Bruce watches awkwardly.
Miles can still be part of the Spider-Man mythos without being up Peter's butthole just like Dick can be part of the Batman mythos without being up Bruce's.
