Producers hire bong actors because at bong acting schools they inculcate a professionalism and a mindset that every performance reflects on your ability, even if the production is utter dogshit. This is why you rarely see a bong actor phoning it in, even on crappy network TV. Cushing and Lee giving titanic performances in the shittiest low budget Hammer horror pictures, same deal. American actors are far more prone to thinking a production is beneath them. Hire a bong and he'll probably be weird looking and his accent will probably slip, but you know he'll put some effort in.
